Abby Elliott Exits Fox's 'Ned Fox Is My Manny' Pilot
"Saturday Night Live" actress Abby Elliott is out as the lead in the Fox pilot "Ned Fox Is My Manny."
Elliott was determined to be wrong for the role after a table read for the sitcom, 20th Century Fox Television confirms. She was to have played Kate Fox, a tightly wound, type-A woman who learns to re-enter the world with help from her free-spirited manny, played by "Descendants" co-screenwriter Nat Faxon.
The show is written by Dana Fox, who is executive producing with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope. Lucy Punch, Maggie Jones and Echo Kellum also star.
Elliott's ouster means she won't have to choose between "Manny" and "Saturday Night Live." She had been expected to exit the NBC show, which also featured her father, Chris Elliott, if the pilot is ordered to series.
She also would have been following her father's career path by starring in "Manny": Chris Elliott starred in Fox's "Get a Life," in the early days of the network.
Elliott is best known on "SNL" for her portrayals of Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, and other stars.
