The series will follow a lesbian couple, whose household is "turned upside down when a wayward teenage girl moves in," reports Deadline.
One mother serves in the police force, while the other mother is a private school teacher.
Together, they already have one biological son and adopted teen twins - a boy and a girl.
Lopez, who plans to appear on the show as a guest star, is one of the executive producers on the project.
The actress and singer recently wrapped the eleventh season of American Idol, and will release her first greatest hits record Dance Again... the Hits on July 20 with 'Dance Again' as its lead single.
