"Good Morning America" continued to even the field with "Today" by tying the NBC broadcast in total viewers in Ann Curry's last week as "Today" co-host, according to preliminary numbers.
Curry was bumped from hosting duties as "Today" tries to increase its lead over "GMA." ABC's morning show has steadily gained on NBC's over the last year.
Last week, "GMA" and "Today" both averaged 4.6 million total viewers, though "Today" beat "GMA," as it typically does, among the viewers aged 25-54 who are most important to news advertisers. In that demo, "Today" had 1.95 million viewers compared to 1.67 million for "GMA."
In one potentially bad sign for NBC, "GMA" beat "Today" on Friday, Savannah Guthrie's first day as Curry's replacement. Friday's "GMA" was the most-watched morning news broadcast of the week, scoring 4.85 million total viewers compared to 4.19 million for "Today." It also won in the key demo, scoring 1.86 million to 1.75 million for "Today."
