Rory Bremner slams BBC Two's 'Mock the Week'

Comedian Rory Bremner has slammed BBC Two panel show Mock the Week.

The 51-year-old, who was a panelist for the first two series of the programme, has described appearing on the show as "uncomfortable".

Bremner told The Times: "I felt that there was a new and highly competitive and quite aggressive tendency there and felt uncomfortable.

"But I've since found out that very few people have felt comfortable doing Mock the Week."

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant also spoke about the late Linda Smith's appearance in an episode of the show, which is hosted by Dara O Briain.

Bremner said: "She was extraordinary. She was such a brilliant comedian and, in a strange sort of way, the show didn't particularly respect her reputation or her intelligence."

In 2009, Jo Brand also spoke out against the show, whose regulars include Hugh Dennis, Chris Addison and Andy Parsons.

Writing in The Guardian, Brand said: "I don't do Mock the Week any more and neither do some male stand-ups I know who have tried it once.

"We just didn't like the prospect of having to bite someone's foot off before they let us say something."
