ReelzChannel Acquires Second Original Drama Series

ReelzChannel Acquires Second Original Drama Series

ReelzChannel has acquired spy thriller action series XIII, starring Stuart Townsend and Aisha Tyler. Named for the Roman numeral tattooed on his neck, XIII (Townsend) is a former secret operative who has been stripped of his memory.

Hunted by a dark anti-government organization, XIII searches for clues that will uncover the secret that makes him so valuable—and so potentially dangerous. Jones (Tyler) is a government agent and XIII’s most loyal ally. XIII will premiere in June, following the season finale of ReelzChannel’s first acquired original series, True Justice, starring Steven Seagal.

XIII was developed and produced by Jay Firestone’s Prodigy Pictures and Luc Besson’s French production company EuropaCorp Television based on Jean Van Hamme’s adrenaline-fueled graphic novels.

Sony to Cut 10,000 Jobs Worldwide

Sony to Cut 10,000 Jobs Worldwide

Sony will cut 10,000 jobs from its global workforce, according to a report in Japanese business daily The Nikkei.

Half of the cuts are expected to be accounted for by the disposal of the conglomerate’s chemical and midsize LCD operations, with the rest spread across the company, the report said, without citing sources.

There are no details as to whether the cuts will fall more heavily in Japan or overseas. Sony’s global workforce, including at subsidiaries, totals more than 168,000.

Sony is forecasting a 220 billion ($2.7billion) loss for the financial year that ended on March 31.Chairman Howard Stringer and six other executives will give up their bonuses to take responsibility for the red ink, according to The Nikkei.

Kazuo Hirai, who took over as president and CEO from Stringer last week, faces the challenge of returning Sony to the black after four straight years of red ink.

Hirai will brief analysts and the media on Thursday this week at Sony’s HQ in Tokyo on his strategy for turning the electronics to entertainments giant around.

Kristen Wiig Talks Leaving 'SNL,' Character Inspirations on Alec Baldwin's Podcast

Kristen Wiig Talks Leaving 'SNL,' Character Inspirations on Alec Baldwin's Podcast

The longtime star of the sketch comedy show wouldn't speculate as to when she'd exit, but admitted that saying goodbye will be quite difficult.

Kristen Wiig has had confirmed Saturday night plans for the past seven years, but will her long-running reservation at 30 Rock in Manhattan soon be coming to an end?

Having made the transition from sketch series ensemble player to bonafide movie star with last spring's Bridesmaids, speculation about Wiig's future on Saturday Night Live has swirled for the past year -- a report last week even said that she and co-stars Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, who have also made the transition to film, will be leaving at the end of this season. But in her interview on Alec Baldwin's podcast Here's the Thing, Wiig seemed much less sure of any decision.

When Baldwin asserted that she'd be leaving this year, Wiig answered, "I don't know," though she did acknowledge that her contract was expiring, adding, "Well, everyone has to leave." Still, the idea of leaving Studio 8H behind left her quite sad.

"I will say that when I do leave it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that," she said. "It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing. I mean, you know. You’re there for a week and on Saturday night you’re sad because you leave these people."

Wiig continued, talking about the helter-skelter, rushed nature of the show and the closeness it fosters between cast members.

"Being surrounded by creative people and knowing that you’re all in it together, and you’re putting on a show, you’re all pushing this huge boulder together – every Saturday you do something that you’re scared to do – I think I will miss that feeling," she added.

But it wasn't all looking backwards when it came to the famed comedy institution; Wiig also discussed how being on the show helped her carve out her highly unique niche.

"That, I have to say, one of the greatest gifts that I’ve gotten from SNL is getting out of my comfort zone," she offered. "I realized, and I think Lorne [Michaels] realized probably the first handful of years that I was there, most of my characters were ladies in their 40s with short hair and weird sweaters, that no one wanted at their dinner party. The good thing about being at SNL, for me creatively, is to think, 'Okay, I’m comfortable enough. I really want to try something that’s not something that I normally do.'"

"That’s when I actually first came up with the character Shana, the one that’s sexy but then gross things," she continued. "I was like, 'I really want to write a character that looks kind of good but blank,' and that’s where the flirting lady came from, too. I didn’t really know what that was going to be. None of it was on the page when we wrote it."

As for her future beyond SNL, Wiig spoke about Imogene, which she wrote and will co-star in with Annette Bening, and some more dramatic projects she wants to pursue. She's also in talks to co-star with Ben Stiller in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and will co-star with Robert De Niro in The Comedian.

Sofia Vergara: 'America welcomed me with pulled-down pants'

Sofia Vergara: 'America welcomed me with pulled-down pants'

Sofia Vergara has said that American men made her feel welcome.

The Modern Family actress, who hosted Saturday Night Live last night (April 7), only had good things to say about America in her opening monologue.

"I always heard that immigrants had a really hard life when they came to America," Vergara said.

"But when I showed up here, everyone was so nice!" she continued. "The men bought me drinks and offered me a place to sleep. This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled-down pants."

Vergara recently declared that hosting SNL is an honour, adding that the sketch comedy show is an American tradition.

The Colombian star was joined by musical guests One Direction, who made their Saturday Night Live debut.

Jennifer Love Hewitt: 'Client List co-star Cybill Shepherd is funny'

Jennifer Love Hewitt: 'Client List co-star Cybill Shepherd is funny'

Jennifer Love Hewitt has said that working with Cybill Shepherd on her new series The Client List has been wonderful.

Hewitt stars as a spa worker-turned-call girl in the show, with Shepherd playing her mother and Colin Egglesfield her brother-in-law.

Discussing The Client List with Collider, the actress said she loves working with three-time Golden Globe winner Shepherd.

"She lights the set. All the lighting that you see on the series is pretty much just Cybill being in the room," Hewitt joked. "She is hysterical. I love her to pieces. She's just an awesome lady."

She continued: "There was no way that I was going to do the series without her. It's just great. We have a really good time."

Hewitt's breakthrough performance came on the hit series Part of Five, leading her to star in the films I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heartbreakers and The Tuxedo.

She explained that she really has no preference for film or television work.

"I like them both, for different reasons. Films are amazing. To be a part of a movie is the greatest. It's so historic and exciting," she said. "Television, for me, is great because I love to act, every day.

"I love to work that muscle. I love to learn, and I love to be able to just do what I love. It's when I'm at my best. So, I love TV for that reason because it's every day."
