Christopher Meloni may join the cast in the upcoming season of True Blood, an HBO rep told TVGuide.com.
If the show succeeds in wooing him, he'd play a "major role," according to TVLine.com, which first reported the news. The network rep declined to offer further details.

Meloni, 50, starred as Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU for 12 seasons before making his exit last spring. Since then, he's been noticeably absent from the screen, though he'll be starring as a general in the feature Man of Steel, due out in 2013.
