David Cronenberg and Sam Raimi to team up on Knifeman
A gory new TV drama directed and produced by David Cronenberg and Sam Raimi? Count us in…
With neither cast members nor a network confirmed, the arrival of TV drama Knifeman is far from imminent, but the involvement of two additions to its team means we’ll certainly be watching when the time comes. David Cronenberg and Sam Raimi are both involved on the production side of things, with Cronenberg opting to direct the series pilot.
When you hear Knifeman’s premise, the involvement of the legendary body horror director all makes a wonderful kind of sense. It’s a biographical story about radical, self-taught surgeon John Hunter, widely credited as the father of modern surgery, and promises to be “…a visceral portrait of the extraordinary and unorthodox lengths he will go to uncover the secrets of the human body”. That sounds right up Cronenberg's strada.
Adapted from Wendy Moore’s biography of the 18th century surgeon, Knifeman is being adapted by Friday Night Lights writer Rolin Jones. Less clear eyes, full hearts and more bursting eyeballs and heart gunge eh? We can’t wait.
Following on from A Dangerous Method, Cronenberg’s next feature is Cosmopolis, adapted from the Don DeLillo novel and starring Robert Pattinson (who can currently be caught rustling through the underskirts of Parisian ladies in Bel Ami).
