Jaz Ellington, Ruth Brown and Max Milner are among the first nine contestants who have reached the Voice UK's Live Rounds.
will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue had to pick the best performers from their respective teams in this evening's Battle Rounds, and nine singers were voted out of the BBC One talent show.
Joelle Moses was the first act sent through to the final stages of the competition, impressing her coach will.i.am during her battle with barmaid Jenny Jones.
will.i.am claimed that Jenny was "smashing it and punching" in their duet on 'I'm Every Woman', but it wasn't enough to win her a spot in the live shows.
Max Milner became the first member of Team Danny to reach the latter stages of the talent show, triumphing over Bill Downs after a Battle Round duet of 'Beggin'.
O'Donoghue claimed that it was a "stupid" decision to pair the two singers together because they were both worthy of a spot in the next round, but ended up opting for Milner based on "gut instinct".
Sam Buttery knocked out Aundrea Nyle thanks to an impressive and colourful rendition of Elvis Presley's 'A Little Less Conversation'.
Coach Tom Jones told Buttery: "I picked that song because Elvis Presley was a huge personality. So I'm glad that you did that song justice - more than justice, you did a wonderful job."
Toni Warne became one of Jessie J's final five acts in the show thanks to a barnstorming rendition of 'Think', which saw her nudge out rival Kirsten Joy.
"Toni, you don't even need a visual to hear the pain and the passion and the understanding of how much music is in your heart. It's just there - I can see it, I can feel it every time I'm with you," said the 'Price Tag' popstar.
Vince Freeman was knocked out of the competition and Team Danny by Bo Bruce. Bruce's version of 'With or Without You' displayed enough to land her a spot in O'Donoghue's Top 5.
"Bo, I think the fragile nature of your performances can almost underestimate everybody as to how good you are. Until you open your voice, and then magic happens," said the Script singer.
will.i.am picked Tyler James over Heshima Thompson after the pair had a Battle Round duet on Chris Brown's '3X'.
Explaining his decision, the Black Eyed Peas star said: "Tyler, you really knocked me out with your performance - that was amazing. Heshima, every lick was incredible. That's why this is hard.
"I'm going to need somebody that is thrown an obstacle and knows how to take it and own it, to where you forgot about the original. Like Tyler. And I want to take Tyler through."
Vince Kidd edged out popular auditionee Jessica Hammond in one of the most-anticipated Battles of the evening. The two singers were praised for their twist on Rihanna's 'We Found Love', but Kidd earned the spot in the live shows.
Commenting on their duet, coach Jessie J said: "You are the two that in Blind Auditions put your own spin on a song that already existed. That's what I loved about you guys.
"And you just did that there and then - again. And you did it well. You were two people that just drew me in to your voices, and I have enjoyed working with both of you so much. This is tough."
will.i.am was elated with the performances of Jaz Ellington and Jay Norton with the soulful take on 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine'. However, it was teacher Ellington who landed the spot in the Live Shows.
The Black Eyed Peas star claimed that Norton was "better than Justin Timberlake" and said that he would love to give him a record deal. However, it was Ellington who progressed to the next round.
"Jaz, I want to take you on to the lives. You have something in you. You got soul in a bowl. You got soul on a pole. You got soul you don't know! Whoa, you got soul," said will.i.am.
The final act of the night to reach the live shows was Ruth Brown, who brought Tom Jones to tears with her emotional take on 'No One'.
The youngster knocked out showbiz veteran Deniece Pearson and landed a spot in Jones's Top 5.
"Ruth, you're coming from a different place. There's ancestry there, there's things that come out of you that is built in," said Jones. "You just let it fly and it works."
