'Gossip Girl,' 'Nikita,' 'Hart of Dixie' Renewed by CW; 'Ringer' and 'Secret Circle' Canceled
"Gossip Girl" will give people something to buzz about yet again, and "Nikita" will be back to seek vengeance for another year.
The network renewed its hit, scandal-prone series for a sixth season.
In March, an individual close to the production told TheWrap that the series would likely be back for a final sixth season that would be shortened, much like the final season of the network's "One Tree Hill." However, it has not yet been determined whether the upcoming season will be "Gossip Girl"'s last, or how many episodes it will consist of.
So far this season, the series has averaged a .8 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.
The CW has also renewed "Nikita" for a third season, adding to a roster that will include new entries such as "Arrow" and "The Carrie Diaries," as well as returning series such as "Supernatural" and "90210."
"Nikita," which debuted in 2010, stars Maggie Q as the title character, a woman who escaped from the secret government organization called Division, and sets out to take Division down after a three-year hiding period. "Nikita" has averaged a .6 in the demo season-to-date.
The network has also renewed the Rachel Bilson drama "Hart of Dixie," which is preparing to wrap up its maiden season, which has averaged a .7 in the demo
On the downside, the freshman series "Ringer" and "Secret Circle" will not be returning for second seasons."Ringer," which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar in dual roles, averaged a .8 in the demo, while "Secret Circle," which followed a group of teenagers with supernatural powers, averaged a .9.
