A TV adaptation of Stephen King’s Under The Dome is in the works

Stephen King’s colossal 2009 novel, Under The Dome, is set for a TV adaptation, with the assistance of Steven Spielberg…

In 2009, Stephen King published Under The Dome, a sci-fi novel that, at more than a thousand pages long, stands as his magnum opus. Taking in a lengthy and eclectic cast of characters, the novel tells the story of a small US town (in Maine, naturally), that is one day encased under an invisible yet impassable barrier.

Dealing with themes such as human cruelty, mortality, politics and environmental destruction in its voluminous stack of pages, Under The Dome would have to be savagely abridged to fit into the format of even the lengthiest Hollywood movie.

It’s the perfect subject matter for a television series, though. And two years on from the book's US publication, it’s being reported that a TV adaptation is under way, with Stephen King and Steven Spielberg acting as developers.

At this early stage, it’s not yet clear who’ll adapt the script, or who will appear in front of the camera, but we know that, when it’s eventually finished, it’ll premier on the US channel, Showtime.
