'Big Fat Gypsy Weddings' soars to 5.3 million for Channel 4
Big Fat Gypsy Weddings turned up the heat in last night's ratings, pulling in a total of over 5.3 million viewers.
The Channel 4 juggernaut averaged a slot-winning 4.48m (17.8%) over the 9pm hour and a hefty 852k (5%) on +1.
However, Gypsy Weddings is down heavily on last year's equivalent episode, which had a combined audience of 8.2m.
Shameless grew to 1.77m (10.4%) at 10pm (+1: 276k/3.1%), while Supersize v Superskinny was steady with 2.27m (9.3%) at 8pm (+1: 235k/0.9%).
Prisoners' Wives (4.28m/17%) on BBC One and Body of Proof (1.4m/5.5%) on Channel 5 both bowed out with respectable numbers. The latter grabbed 108k (0.6%) on timeshift.
Elsewhere on Channel 5, Nazi Titanic thrilled 1.28m (5.3%) in the 8pm hour, and CSI: NY mustered 1.01m (5.7%) from 10pm.
Over on BBC Two, Alex Polizzi: The Fixer (2.02m/8.3%) and Horizon (1.82m/7.2%) attracted decent numbers, while ITV1's FA Cup coverage scored 3.4m (13.9%).
BBC One retained its Tuesday lead in primetime with 21.8%, once again overpowering ITV1 which had a much-improved share of 15% (+1: 0.3%).
Channel 4 claimed a strong third place with 10.5% (+1: 1.5%), ahead of BBC Two's 6.7% and Channel 5's 4.8% (+1: 0.2%).
The Vampire Diaries continued with a solid 393k (1.6%) for ITV2 at 10pm (+1: 103k/0.6%), beating Geordie Shore's 312k (1.8%) at the same time.
