'Prisoner Cell Block H' remake 'will be provocative'
The upcoming remake of Prisoner has been described as "provocative" television.
It was announced last month that a "reimagining" of the cult Australian soap, known as Prisoner Cell Block H in the UK and US, will air on Foxtel under the name Wentworth.
The project was previously slated to be produced for Channel 10, though Foxtel director of television Brian Walsh insisted that the show would be better off on his network.
"I think it's time to take a look at Prisoner and do a 2012 reimagining of the show," he told Encore. "It's going to be provocative in a way that it could never be on Channel Ten but certainly can on subscription television."
Wentworth is scheduled to begin filming later this year in Melbourne.
The original Prisoner ran for almost 700 episodes between 1979 and 1986. Series protagonist Val Lehman has said that she is hoping for a role in the new version.
