HBO's new comedy "Girls" got off to an inauspicious start with its premiere Sunday night, falling short of the Season 3 premiere of "Eastbound & Down" and capturing just a fraction of what its other Sunday night companion, "Game of Thrones" did.
"Girls," created by and co-starring Lena Dunham and executive-produced by Judd Apatow, generated its share of buzz leading up to its premiere, but the numbers weren't stellar. Over two airings, the show drew 1.1 million viewers, with 872,000 tuning in for the 10:30 p.m. airing and 246,000 checking out the 12:30 a.m. encore.
By contrast, the season premiere of "Eastbound & Down" drew 1.6 million viewers overall, with 1.1 million pairs of eyeballs for its 10 p.m. airing and 489,000 at midnight.
"Game of Thrones," meanwhile, largely held its own with last Sunday's episode, amassing 4.5 million viewers over its two airings, with 3.8 million watching the 9 p.m. show and an additional 776,000 viewers for its 11 p.m. airing. Last week's episode also drew 3.8 million viewers -- a hair down from its Season 2 premiere -- with its first airing, and another 1.1 million for its 11 p.m. encore.
