Katharine McPhee has revealed that her Smash character Karen will undergo a "transition" in the show's second season.
In an interview with Parade, the actress said that Karen will change to become a stronger person as a result of the events of season one, but promised that the Broadway star will still be the same at heart.
"There is definitely going to be a transition in Karen. I don't think it will change the essence of who she is. I was actually in bed last night thinking about who Karen is now after everything she's been through," McPhee explained.
"I think she's going to be that much smarter, that much quicker. You really saw Karen change in that last episode. She's not edgy in a bad way, but how she reacts to people is different. Even in her interaction with Ivy. She knows someone did her wrong and that changes things."
McPhee added that while she does not yet know what Smash's second season has in store, she's looking forward to finding out, adding: "I don't know where the writing is going but I'm excited to explore a little more of that."
It was recently announced that Jennifer Hudson will join the cast of the NBC show next season as a Tony winning Broadway star.
