Tom Daley's 'Splash!' proving a ratings success
Tom Daley's Splash! continues to prove a ratings success for ITV despite its critics.
Screened from 7pm, the new diving reality show pulled in 5.16 million (22.4%) and 248,000 on +1 on January 12, ranking as the most-watched Saturday broadcast for the second week running.
While the audience is down a tick on last year's 5.5m-rated premiere, BBC One rival Britain's Brightest - hosted by Claire Balding - fell further to 4.08m (18.1%).
After Splash!, Take Me Out set a new series high of 4.38m (18.2%) from 8.30pm (+1: 194k), but lost out to BBC One's In It to Win It (4.96m/21%) and Casualty (4.93m/20.4%).
You've Been Framed thrashed Richard Hammond's hidden camera show Secret Service with 4.42m (21.9%) versus 2.14m (10.8%), the former adding 194k on ITV1 +1.
However, BBC One enacted revenge later on as a Mrs Brown's Boys repeat beat The Jonathan Ross Show with 4.26m (18.4%) against 2.47m (11.2%), with Ross adding 220k on ITV1 +1.
This meant BBC One topped the primetime share index with 19.7%, ahead of ITV's 17.3% (+1: 0.9%). BBC Two edged Channel 4 to third place with 7% against 6.8% (+1: 1.1%), leaving 5 last with 5.2% (+1: 0.2%).
Celebrity Big Brother led Channel 5's assault with 1.91m (8.7%), while Dad's Army was BBC Two's best-rated broadcast with 2.18m (9.3%), and Channel 4's film Night at the Museum 2 had 1.59m (8.8%).
Meanwhile, a classic Midsomer Murders on ITV3 led the multichannel ratings with 1.07m (4.8%) between 9pm and 11pm.
