In an interview with "48 Hours Mystery," airing Saturday, Bruce Beresford-Redman proclaims his innocence.
Former Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redman has broken his silence surrounding the mysterious death of his wife.
"Everyone seems to have decided that I killed my wife," he says in a 48 Hours Mystery episode airing Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 p.m. "I didn't kill my wife -- I really didn't."
The ex-producer is currently being held in a Mexican jail cell after he was extradited from the U.S. earlier this month. His wife Monica Burgos' body was found naked and beaten in a sewer in Cancun, where the couple and their two children were vacationing in April 2010.
Prosecutors in Mexico claim that the couple had a violent fight before dumping her body, fleeing to the U.S. In November that same year, Beresford-Redman was arrested in Los Angeles.
Beresford-Redman, who co-created MTV's Pimp My Ride and served as a supervising producer on the CBS reality series Survivor from 2003-04, tells 48 Hours that he has submitted evidence to Mexican court that will exonerate him, but he has been ordered to stand trial. Found guilty, he could be facing 40 years to life in jail.
"For anyone who really believes … that you're innocent until you're proven guilty, please take a look at the evidence," says Beresford-Redman. "Or in this case, the absolute complete lack of evidence."
"This is not CSI or Law & Order or any of those shows where at the end we have a satisfying resolution," he adds. "I doubt that there will ever be a satisfying resolution for this because the evidence is gone. Even if I do manage to get off, I don't know if Monica's killers will ever really be caught."
