Mark Pedowitz has insisted that he is proud of Ringer's performance on The CW.
The network president was asked about the show's recent cancellation after just one season during The CW's Upfronts.
"I don't think anything went wrong with Ringer. I was happy it's there," TV Line quotes Pedowitz as saying. "The show was well-crafted, well-produced, well-written, but it was a complicated, serialised show."
He went on to reveal what he believes contributed to the Sarah Michelle Gellar drama's decline in ratings following its hiatus in late 2011, adding: "After it finished a run in the fall and came back in January, the audience went somewhere else. And it just could not find the 18-34 demo that we hoped."
Ringer's executive producer Pam Veasey confessed that the inaccessibility and complexity of the show may have been behind the decrease in viewership.
Just last month, Veasey revealed her hopes for a possible second season, promising that new episodes would have fewer flashbacks.
