BBC´s Oliver Twist From Tuesday 7 February
A powerful and emotional re-telling of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, Oliver Twist, this new version returns to the heart of the novel with dark, dramatic results.
It was only Dickens’ second novel but the story of the orphan, who almost turns to a life of crime before redemption, has stirred generations since it was first published. One of television’s most exciting writers, Sarah Phelps, has adapted the novel for the small screen and restored it to its original glory.
With a host of literature’s best known characters such as Fagin, Bill Sikes and the Artful Dodger, this adaptation has attracted a wealth of acting talent, including Sarah Lancashire, Edward Fox, Sophie Okonedo and Timothy Spall as an unforgettable Fagin.
You may think you know all there is to know about the orphan Oliver Twist but think again, as Victorian street life is thrust into the spotlight, innocence is quickly lost and a powerful struggle unfolds.
