Heidi Klum on Her Divorce: People Don't Need to Know About It
Heidi Klum says she refuses to talk openly, or negatively, about her split from her husband Seal.
"People don't need to know who did what," she says in the April issue of Elle magazine. "I don't want to talk positively or negatively about the ups and downs that we had. Every couple goes through things. Unfortunately, we're in the public, so the highs are out there. But I don't think it's necessary—especially for our children—to have the lows being printed in magazines and talked about."
Earlier this year, the couple announced that they were ending their marriage after seven years. Since the separation in January, Klum has kept quiet, while Seal has spoken about the split publicly on several occasions, including the day after the split was announced. "He's going to be 50 next year. He's a grown man, I can't tell him what to do and what not to do," Klum says.
While the split came as a shock to their fans, Klum adds that she too was somewhat blind-sided by the difficult decision. "Sometimes I think a curveball just comes at you," she says. "Instead of something straight that you can catch, it hits you in the head from the side that you didn't expect. I feel like I'm in the eye of the tornado... But as hard as it is, so is life."
