"Castle" is known for its crazy cases and abundance of puns. Or maybe those are just our favorite parts. Either way, "Kill Shot" was one of the most serious and emotional episodes of the series, and we're happy to say it pulled off drama without a hitch.
It's not like this was the first time "Castle" has tackled a serious topic -- the increasingly tense episodes surrounding Beckett's mom's murder at the end of Season 2, culminating in the Captain's murder and then Beckett's shooting, have all been a great change of pace from the funny investigations we're used to -- but this is one of the best times.
Stana Katic's performance of the PTSD-afflicted Beckett was as emotionally affecting as we expected after speaking with the actress. Our favorite scene: After the third shooting, when Beckett runs into a bathroom, tosses down her gun, jacket and badge, and starts crying. Not a TV-pretty cry, a straight-up relatable, heaving, ugly cry. (Side note: We're pretty sure the acting chops of an actress are directly related to her ability to ugly cry. Some of TV's best: Claire Danes and Mae Whitman. YouTube it if you don't believe us.)
The scenes between Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Beckett were touching and gentle, and the rest of the team trying to figure out how to deal with Beckett's breakdown were excellent. We definitely felt the love between Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett, and we can't wait until the romance Katic alluded to in our interview comes to fruition.
