An advert for a Walking Dead Blu-ray boxset may have spoiled an upcoming plot twist.
The ad for the limited edition set, which appeared on the official AMC site, may have revealed the fate of Shane (Jon Bernthal).
The production description boasted that the set would include "bonus features such as: the making of the barn, an extended zombie gut scene [and] Shane's last episode".
The post was later removed from the AMC store, with a spokesperson for the cable network calling it "completely unauthorised".
"The matter is currently under investigation," The Hollywood Reporter was told.
Rumours of Shane's demise began to circulate when it was revealed that Bernthal was in talks to appear in former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont's new TNT pilot L.A. Noir.
Discussing Bernthal's future with the show, new exec producer Glen Mazzara later said: "I don't want to say anything about secrets or spoilers or anything like that, but I think fans will be satisfied with our story, and I'm just going to focus on that, not other material."
The Walking Dead continues on Sundays at 9/8c on AMC. In the UK, the show airs on Fridays at 10pm on FX.
