'Walking Dead' exec: 'David Morrissey will be awesome as The Governor'
The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman has praised upcoming guest star David Morrissey.
The English actor will appear in the AMC drama's third season as The Governor - a fan favourite character from the original comics.
"More than any other actor, David Morrissey came in and wanted to embrace everything that there is to The Governor," Kirkman told MTV News. "He knew this is a complicated character, and he knew this was a character that people are going to hate to love."
He added: "I think he's really going to knock it out of the park. He has tremendous scale and scope to his acting abilities. I think people are going to be shocked and amazed by the things we do with The Governor in season three. I think people are going to quickly realise that David Morrissey is an awesome guy for the role."
Kirkman, who writes the Walking Dead comic series, promised that the TV series will not play down the "sadistic" side of Morrissey's character.
"It was really important to me that no-one gets the sense that we're neutering The Governor from the comics," he said. "We're definitely going to do the character justice, and season three will be that much crazier and that much more intense because of it."
The Walking Dead continues on Sundays at 9/8c on AMC. In the UK, the show airs on Fridays at 10pm on FX.
