'Simpsons' fans attempt record for marathon TV viewing
Simpsons fans are attempting a a world record for marathon TV viewing this week.
A group of 100 participants began watching back-to-back episodes of the animated show this afternoon (February 8) in Los Angeles in a bid to gain entry into the Guinness World Records book.
Viewers are permitted to eat and drink during the record attempt, but will be disqualified if they fall asleep. The last fan standing will be awarded $10,500 (£6,600), as well as Simpsons merchandise supplied by event sponsors Twentieth Century Fox.
Simpsons episodes clock in at around 22 minutes long, which means viewing the show's back catalogue would take more than eight days.
A group of 24 fans set the current record for marathon TV viewing in 2010 when they watched 86 straight hours of the Kiefer Sutherland-starring series.
The Simpsons, now in its 23rd season, is the longest-running animated comedy of all time. Its 500th episode airs later this month.
