TNT & Lifetime Looking At Cancelled CBS Drama Series ‘Unforgettable’: Will It Live On?

TNT & Lifetime Looking At Cancelled CBS Drama Series ‘Unforgettable’: Will It Live On?

The cancellation of CBS’ freshman drama Unforgettable was one of the closest calls this upfront season. Now the procedural starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh is exploring a move to cable. I’ve learned that producers Sony Pictures TV and CBS TV Studios have had preliminary conversations with TNT and Lifetime about potentially picking up the series. Unforgettable, which centers on Carrie Wells (Montgomery), a New York detective with the ability to visually remember everything, would make sense for both TNT and Lifetime. TNT has had a lot of success with female-lead cop procedurals with The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles. Lifetime has tried hard to launch one with two recent series, The Protector and Against The Wall, both of which were cancelled after one season. Turner has been the most open to rescuing broadcast series with NBC’s Southland going to TNT and most recently Cougar Town moving to TBS.

When asked what went wrong for Unforgettable to warrant the cancellation after a relatively solid first-season run, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said the question is not “what went wrong with Unforgettable but what went right with the new pilots.” Unforgettable averaged 12 million viewers and a 2.5 among adults 18-49.

Lauren Goodger 'returning to The Only Way Is Essex'

Lauren Goodger 'returning to The Only Way Is Essex'

Lauren Goodger has reportedly been invited to return to The Only Way Is Essex.

The beauty salon owner was dropped from the ITV2 series last month after apparently clashing with producers over her lack of screen time.

Goodger, who was left out of an upcoming Marbella special, later confirmed that her future on TOWIE was undecided, saying: "There've been some issues which are currently being looked into."

According to Mr Paparazzi, bosses on the show have released a statement confirming that Goodger will remain part of the cast.

"We have all worked together to resolve the issues and can confirm that Lauren will be returning to TOWIE," they allegedly said.

Former TOWIE star Amy Childs has urged Goodger to quit the programme following rumours of her axe.

"I don't know the ins and outs of what happened as obviously I'm not a part of that anymore," the Celebrity Big Brother star said. "But if she has quit or has been axed then I think this could be a good thing.

"I reckon it's a good time for Lauren to move on from TOWIE. She has a successful business and lots of fans, so she'll be just fine with or without the show."

It was reported prior to Goodger's temporary dismissal that Jessica Wright had refused to film scenes with her.

Armando Iannucci: 'We've written seven new Thick of It episodes'

Armando Iannucci: 'We've written seven new Thick of It episodes'

Armando Iannucci has revealed that writing has finished on seven brand new episodes of The Thick of It.

The writer confirmed on Twitter that the show would return to the BBC during 2012.

"Oh, and we've finished writing 7 eps of The Thick of It, to be shown on BBC2 later this year," he said.

Earlier today, the Caterham F1 team's Head of Communications Tom Webb claimed to have spotted Peter Capaldi in Westminster being filmed in character for the upcoming fourth series.

"In London for meetings & just passed MASSIVE news - Malcolm Tucker filming new scened for The Thick Of It outside Portcullis House. YES!! (sic)," he wrote.

Actor Chris Addison last year told Digital Spy that the next series of the show would start filming this spring.

Earlier this month, it emerged that BBC America had received viewer complaints for bleeping out the swear words in its US broadcasts of the show.

UPFRONTS 2012: The Year Of Underdogs, Comebacks & Second Chances

UPFRONTS 2012: The Year Of Underdogs, Comebacks & Second Chances

In my decade covering American television I can’t think of a year when more projects that started as also-rans, or came back from the dead, or barely made it to pilot, or overcame major recastings, went on to land series orders. And some of them are among next season’s most buzzed-about new shows. It feels like almost all pilots that had recastings — once an ominous sigh for a project’s future — went to series, and those that went through hardship on average fared much better than their non-problematic counterparts.

When a pilot script is passed on by the network that developed it, in 99.99% of the cases that means the end of the road, with the script headed to the writer’s drawer as its final destination. But in the case of Mindy Kaling’s medical comedy The Mindy Project, a pass by NBC where it was developed led to a pilot pickup at Fox, where the project quickly emerged as the network brass’ darling and landed on the fall schedule in the plum post-New Girl time slot.

Like rejected scripts, dead pilots also hardly get resurrected. Sci-fi veteran Rockne S. O’Bannon wrote Cult for the 2005-06 development season when he landed a pilot order at the WB but the project became a casualty of the UPN/WB merger and the pilot was never made. Six years later, O’Bannon’s updated Cult script got a pilot order at the CW, the pilot was shot and took another step forward, landing a midseason series order.

Partners CBSIt took Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchick about as long to get a comedy inspired by their real-life straight man-gay man friendship on the air. The idea’s first incarnation was at CBS during the 2006-07 development season and the second at ABC the following season. Both times, Kohan and Mutchick’s scripts went to pilot starring Jay Mohr and Brian Austin Green (CBS) and Alan Tudyk, Josh Cooke and Ty Burrell (ABC). Both times Kohan and Mutchnick felt there were script, casting and other issues. The two had moved on when last year CBS approached them about revisiting the idea but getting it right this time. The result is Partners, which also went to pilot. It hit a bump — after the table read, Elizabeth Regen was replaced with Tracy Vilar, while another role played by Lucy Davis was written out, with a new character introduced. But Kohan and Mutchnick’s six-year journey had a happy ending, with Partners sailing through testing and screenings to beat the highly competitive CBS comedy field and become the only CBS comedy pilot on the fall schedule, landing behind How I Met Your Mother and getting a rousing reception at the network’s upfront presentation.

Both NBC’s 1600 Penn and Fox’s Goodwin Games were the last comedy pilots ordered at each network. Neither network seemed keen on picking them up, so both projects were given an ultimatum — NBC would only greenlight White House family comedy 1600 Penn if co-creator Josh Gad, originally not attached as an actor, agreed to star, and Fox would only order sibling comedy Goodwin Games if Becki Newton was cast aGoodwin Games Foxs the female lead. After a lot of hustling, both actors were signed and the projects landed the elusive pilot orders. 1600 Penn faced another hurdle when Brittany Snow, originally cast as the First Daughter, was replaced by Martha MacIsaac after the table read. But both pilots ultimately made it to series with midseason orders.

Another Fox comedy pilot, Ben Fox Is My Manny Ben And Kate(now Ben & Kate) was on the verge was being shut down after the table read when its female lead had to be recast. The pilot was already late after struggling to cast its two leads when Abby Elliott, ultimately set as the female lead, was released. After a 24-hour scramble, Dakota Johnson was cast in the role. The pilot was a late delivery but its fortunes turned around the moment it was seen by Fox brass, It quickly emerged as a strong contender and ultimately landed one of two comedy spots on Fox’s fall schedule.

CBS’ drama pilot Golden Boy also suffered an early setback when Ryan Phillippe, who had been tapped as the lead, pulled out. A lengthy new search ensued, resulting in the casting of little-known British actor Theo James in the lead role. The pilot still landed a series order for midseason.

Another pilot, NBC comedy Guys With Kids, tracked great from the taping all the way to a series order (the only NBC multi-camera pilot to get one) despite recasting one of the co-stars, Courtney Henggeler, with Sara Rue after the table read and despite Rue being in second position on her other pilot, Malibu Country, which was tracking strong at ABC. (It was eventually picked up, so the role on Guys With Kids will be recast again.)

Lake Ben & Kate, two other pilots came from behind. In a move that now looks prophetic, CBS’ second new comedy series, Friend Me, was picked up to pilot on the same say as Partners, January 27. But while Partners was in the can by mid-March, Friends was still nowhere with casting as it was waiting for How I Met Your Mother director Pam Fryman to become available. The pilot didn’t cast its leads, Nicholas Braun and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, until early April to become the last pilot this season to lock in its stars. But Friend Me proved to be a late bloomer, rising steadily since its late delivery.

Speaking of a late start, NBC greenlighted Infamous to pilot on February 14, long after all other drama and all but one comedy pilots on any network had been picked up. While a quick turnaround can be pulled off by a multi-camera comedy pilot, getting a high-end drama pilot staffed, cast, produced, edited and delivered in two months is a daunting task. Despite the disadvantage, Infamous beat five other NBC drama pilots ordered before it to land on the network’s schedule.

'Made In Chelsea' cast: 'We deserve BAFTA nomination - we work hard'

'Made In Chelsea' cast: 'We deserve BAFTA nomination - we work hard'

The Made In Chelsea cast have told Digital Spy that they believe their BAFTA nomination is "deserved", claiming that they "work hard" and get their "emotions dragged all over the place".

E4's reality show, which centres on the love lives and dramas of Chelsea socialites, is up against An Idiot Abroad, The Young Apprentice and Don't Tell The Bride for the 'Reality And Constructed Factual' gong at this year's TV BAFTAs.

Speaking to DS at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards and Television Craft Awards nominations party, Locke said: "People don't know how hard we work. People may laugh and think it's silly that comment, but we really do work hard.

"It's real emotions. I've had two break-ups and come out as bi-sexual on national television. That's a pretty difficult situation, especially in front of millions of people."

Louise Thompson said: "We're being recognised in a category that suits what we do. I think we definitely deserve it."

Spencer Matthews added: "For the new category structured reality, we deserve a nomination.

"To put your life out there for everyone to see and have your emotions dragged all over the place by everyone... not everyone can do it."

The BAFTA Television Awards 2012 take place at the Royal Festival Hall at London's South Bank centre on Sunday, May 27.

Daniel Radcliffe, Jon Hamm to star in Sky Arts comedy drama

Daniel Radcliffe, Jon Hamm to star in Sky Arts comedy drama

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and Mad Men actor Jon Hamm are to appear in a new Sky Arts comedy drama.

A Young Doctor's Notebook is based on a collection of short stories by Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov.

Hamm will play the older doctor, who will be seen conversing with his younger self, played by Radcliffe.

22-year-old Radcliffe said: "I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now so when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement.

"The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life."

Hamm added: "I am thrilled to get the opportunity to work on such rich source material with such fantastically talented people whose work I greatly respect, and to continue the relationship with Sky who have taken such good care of Mad Men since acquiring it."

Produced by Big Talk Productions in association with Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt's Point West Pictures, the four-part series will recount Bulgakov's semi-autobiographical experiences as a young doctor working in the small village of Muryovo at the dawn of the Russian Revolution in 1917.

"Clelia Mountford and Big Talk have been championing this project unabashedly and I share their great enthusiasm for bringing something original, dark, funny and moving to light," said Hamm.

"Also, I have been watching Bridget Jones's Diary on infinite loop, and I think I've finally got this accent thing sorted..."

A Young Doctor's Notebook will broadcast on Sky Arts in 2013 and will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

Nick Santora Signs Deal With CBS Studios

Nick Santora Signs Deal With CBS Studios

Breakout Kings co-creator Nick Santora has signed a two-year overall deal with CBS TV Studios. Under the pact, he will join the studio’s new CBS drama series Vegas starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis as co-executive producer and will develop new projects. The deal reunites Santora with CBS Studios president David Stapf. As a writer-producer on the CBS drama The Guardian Santora worked with Stapf, then head of current programming at CBS.

Santora did stints on The Guardian, The Sopranos and Law & Order before joining Fox’s Prison Break right after the pilot. He worked on the Fox drama for its entire four-year run, rising to co-executive producer and landing an overall deal with the series’ producer, 20th Century Fox TV. Santora and Prison Break executive producer Matt Olmstead went on to create Breakout Kings, originally for Fox. The project migrated to A&E where it was picked up to series and ran for two years via 20th TV’s Fox21 until the network’s decision yesterday not to proceed with Season 3. Both Santora and Olmstead have already lined up their next gigs — Santora is off to CBS Studios and Vegas, Olmstead recently signed on as showrunner on the new NBC/Dick Wolf drama series Chicago Fire.

In addition to his extensive drama resume, Santora also has under his belt a hit reality series (He conceived and executive produced Beauty and the Geek), two movies (He wrote and produced the Ice Cube starrer The Longshots and co-wrote Punisher: War Zone) and a best-selling novel, Slip And Fall. His second novel, Fifteen Digits, was published last month. Santora, repped by WME and Gotham, directed a scene from the book (video below) starring Breakout Kings standout Jimmi Simpson and Gino Pesi (Battle Los Angeles). The feature rights to the novel are about to be auctioned.

Betsy Sodaro Upped To Regular On New NBC Comedy ‘Animal Practice’

Up-and-comer Betsy Sodaro has been upped to a regular on NBC’s new single-camera comedy series Animal Practice, which stars Justin Kirk as a House-like veterinarian, who loves animals but usually hates their owners. Sodaro plays Angela, an animal handler. She was a guest star in the pilot, her first ever, and after a strong showing has landed a promotion to her first series regular role. Sodaro is with 3 Arts. Animal Practice, which is recasting its female lead, launches this fall in the Wednesday 8 PM slot.

Tim Roth & Alexander Cary Create FX Bank Robbery Family Drama For Roth To Star

Tim Roth & Alexander Cary Create FX Bank Robbery Family Drama For Roth To Star

FX has put in development a drama project created by Oscar-nominated actor Tim Roth and Homeland co-executive producer Alexander Cary as a starring vehicle for Roth. The untitled project, from Fox21, is described as a drama about addiction, bank robbery, and an extremely volatile family dynamic.

The FX project, which has received a script commitment, stems from the deals both Roth and Cary have with Fox21 parent 20th Century Fox TV. It reunites the duo who first worked together on the Fox/20th TV drama series Lie To Me. In his first U.S. series gig, British actor Roth starred in the drama procedural, which Cary joined as a story editor at the beginning of the second season, rising quickly by the end of the season to executive producer and co-showrunner. Roth is with CAA and attorney Geoff Oblath, Cary is with WME and New Wave.

Alex Jones: 'The One Show feels like ours now'

Alex Jones: 'The One Show feels like ours now'

Alex Jones has said that The One Show has "settled" since Matt Baker signed on as co-host.

Jones joined the show in July 2010, replacing Christine Bleakley. Baker took over from comedian Jason Manford, who had a short-lived stint from July to November after the departure of Adrian Chiles.

"It feels like I've been there for ages but it's only been 18 months, which isn't very long in TV terms," Jones told Metro.

"Since Matt joined, it feels as though the show has settled. People associate us with the show now."

She added that she is "very pleased" with how the show is going, saying: "It takes people a while to get used to new faces and now it feels we can take the show in whatever direction we want.

"It feels like our show, not like we're sitting in on someone else's."

Of frequently being compared to Bleakley, Jones said: "It was a bigger thing in the press than it was for me.

"No one knew anything about me, so I understand why people thought it was weird - there is a similarity between us."

She added: "I was so excited to land the job, I couldn't have cared about the comparisons.

"It was strange. I was plucked from Cardiff and on a show that goes out nationally every night, so it took a period of adjustment."

Bill Murray Does FDR in 'Hyde Park on Hudson'

Bill Murray Does FDR in 'Hyde Park on Hudson'

Plenty of "Saturday Night Live" cast members have adopted the persona of a U.S. president. Not many of them have done so in seriousness, however.

"SNL" alum Bill Murray plays former president Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the upcoming historical drama "Hyde Park on Hudson." The film chronicles an affair between FDR and his distant cousin Margaret Suckley, in the context of a weekend in 1939 when the King and Queen of England visited upstate New York.

Laura Linney plays Suckley, while Olivia Williams plays FDR's wife, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Dare we hope for a day when Adam Sandler will play LBJ on the big screen, or Horatio Sanz tackles the role of Grover Cleveland?

'Dynasty' icon Stephanie Beacham joins Sky1's 'Trollied'

'Dynasty' icon Stephanie Beacham joins Sky1's 'Trollied'

Dynasty actress and former Celebrity Big Brother star Stephanie Beacham has joined the cast of Sky1 comedy Trollied ahead of series two's launch in August.

Beacham joins the show's regular cast Jane Horrocks, Mark Addy, Jason Watkins and Rita May in the supermarket sitcom. She is cast as "no-nonsense supermarket manager" Lorraine.

Series one of Trollied proved to be a ratings hit for Sky1 last year, launching the broadcaster's investment in homegrown British comedy.

"Lorraine is the most outrageous human being I have ever been given the joyful task of portraying," said Beacham. "Lucky me, bad luck anyone who crosses her."

Dominic Coleman, Lucien Laviscount, Jo Enright, Victor McGuire and David Ryall are also joining the Sky1 show's ensemble.

"Look out for some in-store changes, Trollied is going to be bigger, brighter and better. We adore the new additions to the cast and the writers have had a ball writing for them," said Sky1's head of comedy Lucy Lumsden.

Dannii Minogue 'never said she wanted X Factor return, Cowell reunion'

Dannii Minogue 'never said she wanted X Factor return, Cowell reunion'

Dannii Minogue's reported rejection of The X Factor UK was not for financial reasons, it has been claimed.

The Australian singer, who originally appeared on the ITV show for three series until 2010, is apparently wary of reuniting on TV with former lover Simon Cowell after some of the comments that he has made about her.

The Daily Star quotes a source as saying: "Dannii has never actually said she wanted to return to the show.

"They came to her with an offer, she said no, they came back again, she said no. It's not about money for Dannii.

"She had to seriously think about whether she wanted to work for the man who spoke so degradingly about her and their relationship."

Tabloid reports this morning allege that Minogue declined an offer in the region of £1 million during talks yesterday.

The 40-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to The X Factor following the departure of Kelly Rowland.

Louis Walsh and Gary Barlow have both been confirmed for the 2012 panel, while former N-Dubz member Tulisa Contostavlos is highly expected to be unveiled in the near future.

'Voice' Becky Hill rugby tackles Jessie J in rehearsals

The Voice UK's Becky Hill ended up getting a bit carried away at the end of rehearsals with her coach Jessie J this week, rugby tackling the 'Price Tag' popstar to the floor.

Hill and Jessie ended up in a pile on the ground after the pair began mucking around during the final minutes of vocal training.

Two members of Team Jessie and Team Danny will be eliminated from the BBC One talent show this weekend.

The Voice airs on Saturday, May 19 at 6.30pm on BBC One. Paloma Faith is the special guest performer on Sunday's results show.

Sarah Jessica Parker Hosting Obamas at ‘Fabulous’ June Fund-Raiser in NYC

Sarah Jessica Parker Hosting Obamas at ‘Fabulous’ June Fund-Raiser in NYC

The event, co-hosted by the president and First Lady Michelle Obama, will take place on June 14 at the “Sex and the City” star’s townhouse in Manhattan. And like Clooney’s Hollywood extravaganza, which raised a staggering $15 million for the president’s second run on the White House, Parker’s party in New York will include a couple civilians in the mix.

The always proper Parker announced the donation-based contest via email Friday, taking a crack at class politics while she was at it. “As a woman, a mother, and an entrepreneur, I need to believe our country can be a place where everyone has a fair shot at success,” she said.

“This November’s election will determine whether we get to keep moving forward, or if we’re forced to go back to policies that ask people like my middle-class family in Ohio to carry the burden – while people like me, who don’t need tax breaks, get extra help,” Parker added.

Though she didn’t make specific mention of Obama’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriage, Parker is one of a group of prominent players from the entertainment industry, including “Milk” scribe Dustin Lance Black, singer Ricky Martin and “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, who have stepped up their commitments to Obama’s cause since he came out for marriage equality.

Contestants hoping to join Parker and the Obamas at the actress’ lavish Greek-revival style Greenwich Village home can donate “any amount” to enter, according to her email.

And of course, Parker promised, “It should be fabulous.”

Alan Partridge returns to TV with three new Sky Atlantic shows

Alan Partridge returns to TV with three new Sky Atlantic shows

Alan Partridge will return to TV from June with three new shows on Sky Atlantic.

Steve Coogan's comedy character is to appear in a re-edited six-part series of Mid Morning Matters, previously hosted online by Fosters' Funny, and two original hour-long commissions.

Alan Partridge: Welcome To The Places of My Life sees Alan tour his beloved Norfolk, visiting the places that have shaped the man he is today, while Alan Partridge on Open Books with Martin Bryce will feature Alan getting interviewed by an author (Robert Popper) about his literary works.

A second series of Mid Morning Matters will also be screened in 2013.

"Alan has been off the TV for too long but he is even more excited than me about his chance to have a second bite of the cherry," Coogan said. "Alan feels the second decade of the millennium is the right time."

Naomi Gibney, acting channel director of Sky Atlantic, added: "I am delighted that we are bringing the formidable talents of Steve Coogan to Sky customers. Joining some of the most iconic comedy names including Russell Brand, Kathy Burke, Julia Davis, Armando Iannucci and Jack Dee will firmly establish Sky Atlantic's comedy credentials and indicates the scale of our ambition.

"As we continue to actively build our slate of originated and acquired comedy, securing Steve Coogan ensures Sky Atlantic will become synonymous with the cream of comedy."

Sky Atlantic will also premiere two more projects from Coogan's Baby Cow production company - animated children's special Uncle Wormsley's Christmas voiced by Coogan, Julia Davis, Julian Barratt and John Thompson, and Steve Coogan's Stand-Up Down Under, which follows the comedian on his Australian tour.

Baby Cow CEO Henry Normal commented: "Sky Atlantic looks like being at a party everyone wants to go to. I feel really fortunate that Baby Cow can be at the beginning of this great adventure."

Alan Partridge last appeared on TV in March 2011 as part of the BBC's Comic Relief Marathon. The last full series of sitcom I'm Alan Partridge concluded in 2002.

The character released an autobiography last Christmas entitled I, Partridge: We Need to Talk About Alan and a movie is due to begin filming this year.

Tim Vine quits 'Not Going Out' after six years?

Tim Vine quits 'Not Going Out' after six years?

Tim Vine has reportedly hinted that he has quit BBC One series Not Going Out after six years.

The stand-up comedian explained that he is looking for "a change" after the sitcom was ordered for two more series.

BBC executives have reportedly renewed the show, with series six and seven taking the flatmates comedy into 2014, according to The Sun.

"I'm great friends with everyone on the cast and I've had a great time doing it but after five series I simply fancied a change," he is quoted as saying.

A friend of Vine - who plays lead star Lee Mack's best friend Tim in the series - added: "Tim loves the show and it has made him a big star. But he has now had enough. He's got lots of other work coming in and is keen to try other things.

"He's been doing the show for six years and has been through the highs and lows.

"But he figures he may as well quit while he is ahead and make the most of his popularity."

A BBC insider stated: "We'll be introducing some exciting new characters in the next series. It's now what might be termed a long-running sitcom. It has had several changes of cast along the way and has grown audience rather than lost it."

Not Going Out returned for a fifth series to BBC One last month.
