'Secret Life of the American Teenager' to End After This Season

Sorry, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" fans; the ride is almost over.

The ABC Family series will end its run after it concludes its final season, the network told TheWrap.

The good news? The teen drama, which stars Shailene Woodley, Ken Baumann, Mark Derwin and Molly Ringwald, and centered around the repercussions of teen pregnancy, still has a way to go before the goodbyes. The second half of the fifth season will premiere in March, with 12 episodes to go.

J.J. Abrams Lands 'Adulting' Comedy With Fox

After years of giving you the chills, J.J. Abrams wants to tickle your funnybone.

The "Lost" and "Revolution" honcho is spreading his wings into the comedy arena with a new project, "Adulting," that has landed a put-pilot agreement with Fox, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

The single-camera, half-hour project is based on the upcoming Kelly Williams Brown book "Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 387 Easy(ish) Steps."

Abrams will executive-produce the project, which comes via his Bad Robot production company and Warner Bros. Television. Abrams' partner Bryan Burk will also executive-produce, with Kathy Lingg of Bad Robot serving as co-executive producer. Bad Robot's Athena Wickham will also serve as a producer.

Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, whose credits include the big-screen offerings "The Vow" and "Valentine's Day," will write and also serve as executive producers.

Scheduled for release in May 2013 by Grand Central Publishing, Brown's book is billed as "an incredibly wise, absurdly relatable, totally hilarious guide to all the things that young adults think that they should know already - but don't."

Harvey Weinstein, Michael Flatley Pair Up to Create the Grammys of the Dance World

Harvey Weinstein wants to create the dance equivalent of the Grammys. And he's enlisting none other than the Lord of the Dance, Michael Flatley, to do it.

The Weinstein Company co-chairman shared a stage at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes this week to announce the launch of a new televised awards show, the World Dance Awards, British newspaper the Guardian reports.

"If this show has a cousin, it's the Grammys," Weinstein said, according to the paper. "It's going to be a game changer for all the networks that buy the show. This is going to be a ratings blockbuster that the people who buy it early will have year after year after year."

Flatley, the dancer-choreographer behind the Irish dance shows "Riverdance" and "Lord of the Dance" conceived the awards show idea.

"We owe this to the millions and millions of kids around the world who dance," he said, adding that dance legends such as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Michael Jackson provided inspiration for the show. "The sky's the limit, we've got to reach all the little children."

Surely, the throngs of preteen Gene Kelly fans are breathing a sigh of relief right now, and perhaps bursting into a celebratory performance of the Lindy Hop while they're at it.

A spokesman for the Weinstein Company has not yet responded to TheWrap's request for further detail.

'The Valleys' Lateysha gets tearful, threatens to walk off show

Beyoncé lookalike Lateysha Grace threatens to walk off MTV reality show The Valleys tonight after getting upset about her exclusion from the rest of the cast.

The wannabe model has an emotional phonecall from her mum and contemplates quitting the series after her co-stars throw a Sexy Bo Peeps and Hunky Farmers party.

Talking about her battles with Leeroy and Liam on the show, she comments: "For the first time ever I feel like I'm not going to last in Cardiff… if it's not Leeroy, it's Liam, it's just too much."

Speaking to her mum, she adds: "Everybody in the house is having fun but I just don't feel part of this group anymore… I think I'm going to go."

Lateysha's emotions trigger more tears from Nicole Morris, who pleads with her not to pack her bags. "I don't want her to go," Morris tells the cameras.

NBC Is Top-Rated Network of the Season - So Far

Two weeks into the new fall season, NBC is the top-rated network after lagging in fourth place for years. CBS remains easily the most-watched network.

NBC displaced ABC last season as the third-highest-rated network in the 18-49 demographic. As happy as NBC is to be in first, the situation could quickly change: Other networks still have big guns to roll out, including "American Idol" on Fox, which usually finishes the season at No. 1 in the ratings.

It's been nine years since NBC was last the top-rated network two weeks into the season. NBC has averaged a 2.8 rating in the demo, the one most important to advertisers, while Fox and CBS are both averaging a 2.4.

Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said over the summer that the Super Bowl could help CBS become the highest-rated network in the demo this season, as well as remain the most-watched network overall.

But the ratings leader for now is NBC, thanks largely to the success of TV's top-rated show, "Sunday Night Football," and the hit singing competition "The Voice."

More good news for NBC: It is the only network that is up in both the demo and total viewers. ABC, CBS and Fox are down in both.

And some bad news: Though tops in the demo, NBC is third in total viewers. It is, however, doing better than it was at this point last year, when it was fourth.

'Louie' Going on Extended Hiatus Until 2014

One of the hardest working men in show business is taking a bit of a breather: "Louie" is going on extended hiatus until 2014, FX announced.

The Emmy-winning Louis C.K. has a famously intense work ethic: He writes, produces, stars, directs and edits the show, as well as maintaining a thriving standup career. He said the extra time between the show's recently completed third season and its fourth will help him keep the series as good as can be.

"I want the show to keep getting better," C.K. said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday. "I want season 4 to go somewhere new."

The break, C.K. told TheWrap, will help him "feel hungry." He said his anxiousness to return wil fuel his creativity.

"I get really irritated when I'm not working or not on the air," he said. "There's a big part of me that does not want to do this."

C.K. said he thinks of the show's first three seasons as a trilogy, and hopes to begin a new story with the fourth.

The longer break between seasons will also allow him much more time to shoot and edit the show, as well as focus on standup. He has previously begun filming seasons in March for June airing, which forced him to edit and promote the show simultaneously.

The comedian, who is currently on a national tour, said he plans to begin shooting season 4 in September or October of 2013, for airing in May 2014.

FX president John Landgraf said C.K. asked for the extra time, and that working on the show has been an "incredibly joyful process." He said the longer break will give C.K. more time to grow as an artist.

"Sometimes there isn't time to live when you've got a successful show and a successful career," Landgraf said.

C.K. hired Woody Allen's editor, Susan E. Morse, to handle editing for the third season, but her husband died and he reclaimed editing duties. Having an editor made him realize how essential it is to the storytelling process, he said.

"I think what I'm learning is I've got to edit the show myself," he said. "I had to take the reins back."

C.K. said working on the show takes a personal toll, but that he's worked toward it for more than 25 years of doing standup and accepts it.  Like his character on the show, C.K. shares joint custody of two young daughters, and only shoots the show three days a week so he can spend more time with them.

"I think we have a pretty good thing going, meaning me my ex-wife and them," he said. "But I've got to say goodbye to them every week. It's something that gets routine but never easy."

'Big Bang Theory' Star Kaley Cuoco to Host People's Choice Awards Again

Kaley Cuoco is returning to host the People's Choice Awards in January.

Cuoco, who plays Penny on CBS's "The Big Bang Theory," hosted the most recent ceremony. The show won a People's Choice Award in 2010 for Favorite TV Comedy.

"It’s an honor to return as host of the 2013 People's Choice Awards and kick off awards season with one of the most fun events of the year,” Cuoco said in a statement.

The People's Choice Awards 2013 will air live on CBS from from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. (with a delay for the Pacific time zone).

James Corden to star in new BBC Two comedy 'The Wrong Mans'

James Corden is to star in a new comedy for BBC Two.

The Wrong Mans is described as a "comedy thriller" and will begin filming in January 2013.

Gavin & Stacey star Corden and Mathew Baynton (Horrible Histories, Spy) will play a pair of office workers who become caught up in a criminal conspiracy.

When Sam (Baynton) discovers a ringing phone at the scene of a horrific car crash, the two men realise that it is up to them to step up and save the day.

Baynton - who also co-wrote the series with Corden - said: "James and I dreamt up The Wrong Mans during a break on the set of Gavin And Stacey four years ago. I'm excited to be working with the BBC and Hulu to finally make it a reality."

The half-hour comedy - directed and produced by Jim Field Smith (Episodes) - will be a co-production between BBC In-House Comedy and online broadcaster Hulu.

"We are trying to do a comedy with explosions, a lot of running about, murder, extortion, friendship and love," said executive producer Mark Freeland. "I cannot wait. But I'm glad I'm not doing the running about bit."

Earlier this year, Corden won a prestigious Tony Award for his performance in the play One Man, Two Guvnors and is reportedly eyeing a role opposite Meryl Streep in a movie adaptation of Broadway musical Into the Woods.

'X Factor' Lucy Spraggan scrap rehearsals after grandma dies

X Factor finalist Lucy Spraggan has travelled home after her grandmother died.

The singer-songwriter scrapped rehearsals on Monday (October 8) in order to visit her grandfather James in Kent, The Sun reports.

Marjorie Spraggan passed away on Sunday (October 7), a few hours after watching her granddaughter make it through to the second round of the ITV competition.

"My nanny was a great woman and she and granddad were together for more than 50 years so I really want to be around to support him and my family at this time," Spraggan said.

"My granddad is an amazingly strong and kind man and they loved each other very much. She's at peace now and that's comforting to know.

"She was so proud to see me singing and I'm glad I made her smile. She'll be greatly missed."

Lucy Spraggan returned to X Factor rehearsals on Tuesday afternoon.

A show source said: "We are giving Lucy as much time at home with the family as she needs at this sad time."

Spraggan recently predicted that Ella Henderson will be crowned the winner of this year's X Factor.

'SEAL Team Six' Premiere Date Not Politically Motivated, National Geographic Channel Says

Timing isn't always everything -- or at least it's apparently not when it comes to the premiere date of "Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden."

Reacting to criticism that the premiere date for the film might have been chosen to influence the election, National Geographic Channel has released a statement asserting that the channel has "no political agenda" in releasing the Weinstein Company-distributed fictional account of the mission last May that killed the terrorist leader who masterminded the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The film is scheduled  to show two days before the November presidential election.

"'SEAL Team Six' is a film that will provide our viewers with the first full length dramatization detailing one of the war of terrorism's most crucial and historic events," National Geographic Channel said. "It also showcases the extraordinary bravery and resourcefulness of the United States military and national security teams. The National Geographic Channel has no political agenda, and believes that audiences can and will judge projects of this type on their own merits."

In a seeming attempt to display its balance, the channel also pointed out that it had special access to Republican President Bush for a program on Sept. 11, 2011.

"National Geographic Channel also has a reputation of getting inside access, and bringing big events to our viewers first  -- for instance, we were the first and only network to have an exclusive with George W. Bush for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 (our highest rated show last year)," the statement continues.

Since the news of the premiere date broke late last week, certain conspiracy-minded corners of the internet have suggested that National Geographic might be attempting to boost President Barack Obama's image in the days before the election.

"While I’m sure many will be interested in watching -- including me -- I have to wonder just what effect it might have on the election and how the timing of the presentation smacks of an outright free documentary in support of President Barack Obama," a writer for the Independent Sentinel posited.

"SEAL Team Six," which stars William Fitchner, Cam Gigandet and rapper Xzibit, was originally titled "Code Name: Geronimo" and slated for a theatrical release before National Geographic Channel struck a deal to premiere the film.

'Made in Manchester' series denied by producers, Brooke Vincent

The production team behind Made in Chelsea has denied that a new spinoff set in Manchester is in the pipeline.

Made in Manchester has been rumoured to be in pre-production by Monkey Kingdom, as a new series similar to its previous show set in London.

Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent, Waterloo Road's Chelsee Healey and Manchester designer Nadine Merabi were among the stars linked to the alleged show.

However, Monkey Kingdom has told Manchester Confidential that the rumours are false.

When asked if it is producing a new series in the area, it stated: "We are not."

Merabi added: "It's not true. There is something being discussed at the moment but it's not Made In Manchester and nothing has been finalised or agreed yet.

"Chelsee read the rumours in the paper just like everyone else and rang me to ask me what it was all about. She did say she would love to do it though if it were real."

Vincent and Healey's casting representatives Laine Management also said that it had not heard of such a programme.

I'm A Celebrity 2012: Eastenders star Ricky Groves for the jungle?

Former Eastenders star Ricky Groves has been linked to I’m A Celebrity 2012.

The Sun reports this morning that the actor, who played Garry Hobbs in the BBC One series, has been approached to take part in the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!

The newspaper also claims that Ricky is “keen” to head out to the Aussie jungle next month for the new series

It was recently reported that bosses were trying to get Olympic stars to sign up to this year’s line up, which will be revealed in the coming weeks.

According to The Sun, names on the show’s wish list of celebs include cycling champs Bradley Wiggins and Elizabeth Armitstead, as well as gymnast Beth Tweddle and swimmer Rebecca Adlington.

The rumoured celebs on this year’s I’m A Celebrity line up also include former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, singer Grace Jones, darts champ Eric Bristow and Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson.

Gary Barlow threatens to quit!

Gary Barlow has reportedly threatened to quit The X Factor 2012 UK, following the weekend’s elimination drama.

The first live results at the weekend saw Gary’s Carolynne Poole and Nicole’s Rylan Clark in the bottom two, with Louis deciding to send the result to deadlock, after first opting to save Carolynne.

It meant that Carolynne left the show, and saw Gary storming off the panel.

According to the The Sun, Gary has warned he’ll quit the series if there’s any more deadlock drama.

“Gary is fiercely proud of his reputation and signed up for the show because he wanted to nurture genuine talent. The reason he wanted to be on it was to put a stop to these tricks and to stop insulting the artists and viewers,” an insider told the tabloid this morning.

They explained: “The pantomime some of his fellow judges bring to the show drives him insane and he believes it undermines the credibility of the whole show. Sunday’s antics infuriated him. He was livid.

“He called a dinner for last night and issued an ultimatum — if this ever happens again he is off. No questions asked.

“Gary is demanding that genuine talent should always be recognised ahead of pantomime acts like Rylan who might pull in a few more phone votes for the novelty factor.”

It was reported this morning that Gary was “refusing” to talk to Louis Walsh over Sunday’s results show, which has seen more than 2,000 complaints to telly watchdog Ofcom.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “He [Gary] is very frustrated which is not a good sign so early on in the series.

“Gary is blanking Louis and has also ignored a number of phone calls from production staff.”

CBS Developing Melting-Pot Family Comedy for Axis of Evil Comedian

CBS is preparing to explore the lighter side of ethnic tensions with its latest project.

The network is developing a half-hour comedy, "Nobody Trusts Maz," as a vehicle for Maz Jobrani, an Iranian-born American comedian and member of the Axis of Evil comedy group.

Jobrani would star in the project, about a couple with a Persian-American husband and an Irish-American wife, whose in-laws must grapple to accept the non-homogenous union.

Former "Cheers" executive producer Phoef Sutton, who has served as a consulting producer on CBS's similarly culture clash-themed "Rob," will write and executive-produce. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum ("Two and a Half Men," "Rob") will also executive-produce the project, which comes via CBS Television studios.

ABC Orders 3 More Scripts for 'The Neighbors'

ABC has decided to live with "The Neighbors" a little bit longer.

The network has ordered three more scripts for the freshman comedy, which stars Lenny Venito and Jami Gertz as a couple that moves its family to a gated community in New Jersey, only to find out that their new neighbors are aliens from another planet.

The series has a commitment for its pilot and an additional 12 episodes.

The series got off to an encouraging start with its late-September premiere, thanks to a lead-in from the popular comedy "Modern Family," scoring a 3.3 rating/9 share in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic and drawing 9 million total viewers.

However, the following week in its regular Wednesday-night timeslot, the series fell significantly to a 2.0/6 and drew just 6.6 million total viewers.

The series, created by Dan Fogelman ("Tangled," "Bolt"), is produced by ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment.

X Factor 2012: Chris Maloney branded 'fake' by rival finalists

Numerous reports claim that Chris’ rivals have suggested he’s been pretending to be nervous in a bid to gain votes.

The singer was originally rejected by Gary Barlow for the Overs category, but was voted back into the live shows by the public as a wild card act.

But some of his rival finalists have called into question Chris’ nerves, which Gary had blamed for not putting him through to the live shows originally.

One of the show’s contestants is quoted as telling The Sun: Christopher could not be any more different off camera.

“He isn’t nervous at all and is actually quite big-headed.”

And eliminated contestant Carolynne Poole, who left the show on Sunday night, added: “I didn’t see he was shy.

“The reason people say things about him is he is a confident, bold person so they are surprised when they see the nerves.”

Meanwhile a source told the Daily Star today that the other contestants were hoping Amy Mottram would be voted back into the show at the weekend.

“Out of all the wild cards, they wanted Essex girl Amy Mottram back. Everyone loved her,” the insider said. “They were gutted it was Chris. They think he is fraud.”

The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday night on ITV1, with the results show following on Sunday night with performances from Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson.

Benedict Cumberbatch: 'Elementary is absolutely fantastic'

Benedict Cumberbatch has described Elementary as "absolutely fantastic".

The Sherlock star was previously quoted as saying that he was "cynical" about the casting of his Frankenstein co-star Jonny Lee Miller in the CBS series, before then claiming that his apparent criticism was a "misquote" and that there was no feud between the two shows.

"I've seen [Elementary] and it's absolutely fantastic," Cumberbatch told an audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, according to the Radio Times. "It's really good, you should all watch it."

He added: "Under no circumstances would I want Jonny to have anything but a rip-roaring success because, first and foremost, he is my friend."

Cumberbatch admitted that, while he was originally "cynical" about the choice of Miller due to the pair's Frankenstein association, his feelings were not directed towards Miller himself.

"I've yet to go and talk to [the producers] about where their original thoughts came from to cast him, but I know for a fact that they kept on going back to him so he must have knocked it out of the park in the auditions," he explained.

"[Jonny is] phenomenal; he's completely different; he's far more contained. He's stunning to watch as well - he's just a beautiful specimen, Jonny – and he really knows what he's doing, he's completely got under his skin and it's another Sherlock for he 21st century."

The 36-year-old concluded by saying that he wishes to "put a cap" on stories of a rivalry and accusations that he is "not happy" about Elementary.

"I do wish him all the best with it, he's got a phenomenal job ahead of him because he's got 12 or 13 episodes and maybe a five-year series," Cumberbatch said.

"There was anther two sheets worth of fish paper in The Times today about [the supposed rivalry] – apparently I'm not happy about it, apparently Steven [Moffat]'s not. I mean, it's just fine... it's more than fine, it's brilliant."

Lucy Liu - who plays Joan Watson in Elementary - previously stated that the makers of Sherlock had seen the US show and approved of it.

"I thought that the creator from the original Sherlock had seen the pilot and he said that he was really impressed and pleased with how it turned out, and he saw that the correlation was completely different," the actress suggested.

Elementary continues on Thursday nights on CBS and will air on Sky Living from October 23.

'Community,' 'Whitney' Premiere Dates Pushed Back by NBC

Fans of "Community" and "Whitney" will have to wait a little longer for their favorite shows to return.

NBC has pushed the premieres from the comedies from its fall schedule for the time being, to be rescheduled at a later date, the network told TheWrap..

"Community" and "Whitney" were originally scheduled to premiere their new seasons  Oct. 19. Both shows were scheduled to premiere their upcoming seasons in new Friday timeslots.

"Grimm" repeats will air in their place for the time being.

NBC said in a statement that it will use the shift to focus on its current crop of successful shows, which made the network the best-rated broadcast outlet during this fall's premiere week.

“Given the success we’ve had for the past four weeks -- including winning the first week of the season in A18-49 -- we’ve decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday and have therefore decided to hold 'Community' and 'Whitney' from their previously announced premieres of October 19," the network said.

"Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week -- plus we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights.  When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks,  we will announce new season premieres of 'Whitney' and 'Community.'"

This isn't the first time that ratings-challenged "Community," which will eventually return for its first season since creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was ousted, has experienced scheduling tumult. The series was mysteriously absent from NBC's midseason schedule last November, much to the dismay of its relatively small but committed fanbase.

"Whitney" experienced similar upheaval, being moved to a Wednesday night timeslot in January.
