Tricia O'Kelley replaces 'Eureka' star in Roseanne Barr comedy pilot

Tricia O'Kelley replaces 'Eureka' star in Roseanne Barr comedy pilot

Tricia O'Kelley has joined Roseanne Barr's comedy pilot Downwardly Mobile due to the recasting of a character.

Downwardly Mobile is set at a mobile home park, with Barr playing the park's owner and a surrogate mother to the residents.

O'Kelley will portray a new resident to the home park as her character Mrs Denby is the wife of of a hedge fund administrator (Greg Cromer) who recently lost everything in a Ponzi scheme. They moved into the park to start over, but Mrs Denby isn't too happy with her new surroundings.

Mrs Denby was originally set to be played by Eureka actress Salli Richardson, but Richardshon, who has never acted in a comedy series, "didn't feel quite comfortable at the table read" on Friday (April 13), reports Deadline.

Barr apparently stood up for Richardson and she was kept for the role, but the recasting for Mrs Denby was done at the end of the pilot's run-though today (April 14).

O'Kelley's past sitcoms include The New Adventures of Old Christine, Malcolm in the Middle, Two and a Half Men and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Downwardly Mobile also features Jason Antoon as a stay-at-home dad to his daughter (Kendra Jain) with wife Sheila (Romy Rosemont).

John Goodman is also cast in the pilot, making it a reunion for him and Barr, as they played husband and wife in Roseanne.

Debra Messing: 'Working in television is terrifying, exciting'

Debra Messing: 'Working in television is terrifying, exciting'

Debra Messing has explained why she thinks working in television is "terrifying" but "exciting".

Messing, who previously starred on Will & Grace, can be seen in Smash, the NBC series that revolves around a musical based on Marilyn Monroe.

"Every week, we would be called together as a full cast to read the next week's script, and every week inevitably I would exclaim in the middle of the reading, 'Oh my God, are you kidding me?' because there would be some revelation that was completely unexpected, and everyone would laugh, and it became like a running joke," she told Elle magazine.

"That's kind of one of the wonderful things about television, the thing that makes television terrifying. It's something that Uma Thurman and I spoke about because it was the first time she had done television. She was like when you're in a film, it's a finite thing, it's a two-hour story, you know how it ends, and you can craft your character, you have all the information.

Messing added: "In television you only have the information that's been given to you so far, and at any moment your character can become something completely opposite from what you thought it was. That requires a completely different kind of muscle, and I think it's exciting."

Messing previously talked about her wardrobe in Smash, describing it as creative but practical since her character is both a mum and the musical's co-writer.

Mitt Romney to appear on 'Saturday Night Live'?

Mitt Romney to appear on 'Saturday Night Live'?

Mitt Romney could be appearing on Saturday Night Live.

The US Republican presidential candidate has been invited to host the sketch comedy series by the show's executive producer Lorne Michaels, according to The New York Times.

"He was funny on Letterman, giving the Top Ten list," show writer Jim Downey said of Romney.

Romney has yet to answer the proposal. Should he elect to take the offer, he will likely be hosting next September.

Steven Spielberg made a cameo appearance on last night's (April 15) episode of SNL.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning will host the next episode of the series, with musical guest Rihanna, on May 5.

'Vampire Diaries' Daniel Gillies: 'I was Charlie Sheen as a kid'

'Vampire Diaries' Daniel Gillies: 'I was Charlie Sheen as a kid'

Daniel Gillies has compared himself to Charlie Sheen.

The Vampire Diaries star, who plays the Original Elijah, took the stage at a Chicago convention for the show this weekend, where he talked about his escapades as a child.

"I was just so naughty," he said of his childhood. "I was bad. I was Charlie Sheen."

The actor went on to praise his co-star Joseph Morgan, who plays his brother the Original Klaus on the show.

"Joseph Morgan is so good, he's so mischievous," Gillies said. "He's sort of Napoleonic, he has this thirst for power… and I like that Elijah is the Consigliere to him.

"I love watching their two energies together," he continued. "I don't think power is as important to Elijah as stability is, and he hopes he'll achieve that."

When asked what his power would be if he were a superhero, Gillies answered: "To be Joseph Morgan."

'The Voice' Erin Martin: 'I'm over this competition'

'The Voice' Erin Martin: 'I'm over this competition'

Erin Martin has claimed that she is "so glad" to no longer be competing on The Voice.

The model turned singer, who was eliminated from the Top 24 during last Tuesday's live results show, defended her performances on the singing competition and insisted that she is "over it".

"Oh my God, I'm so glad to be over this competition. Yes, I'm over it," Martin told Access Hollywood following her exit.

"[For] the blind audition, I gave a fabulous performance and for my last song I gave a fabulous performance, and for both of those songs, I chose my song and the chips - not the chips, but like, the control was in my hands of the song and like, you know, how I sang it."

Martin, who was coached by Cee Lo Green, went on to claim that lack of proper mentoring also contributed to her lack of success on The Voice, adding: "When I gave that creative control over, it kind of just didn't really go so well.

"I think it was a good lesson for Cee Lo in this particular instance that, you know, when you come across a voice like mine, you have to really nurture it and he wasn't the right person to do that. No offence to him, it just, he wasn't… I'm the right person to nurture my voice."

The Voice also revealed its Top 16 contestants during last Tuesday's broadcast.

Sir Tom Jones completes 'Voice' UK team with Ruth Brown

Sir Tom Jones completes 'Voice' UK team with Ruth Brown

19-year-old Ruth Brown completed Sir Tom Jones's Voice UK team this evening, wowing the Welsh pop icon with her rendition of 'When Love Takes Over'.

Brown revealed before her audition that she was dedicating her Blind Audition to her late father, who died before Christmas. The singer claimed that her dad had given her his approval to appear on the BBC talent show. "He wanted me to give it everything," she said.

Sir Tom Jones was the only coach who turned his chair for Brown. However, Jessie J applauded the teenager for her "insane" voice and "style".

Jones commented: "She's got some voice... I heard something in that girl's voice I haven't heard in a long while."

The 'Green Green Grass of Home' singer claimed that it was Brown's "big note" in the song that sealed the deal for him pressing his buzzer.

"Anyone with lungs that big has to be something special," said Jones.

The Voice UK continues next weekend with a double bill on Saturday and Sunday as the show enters the Battle Round stages.

Maggie Smith On the Way Out of 'Downton Abbey'

Maggie Smith On the Way Out of 'Downton Abbey'

Maggie Smith has reportedly told "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes that she wants out of the hit British drama.

"Maggie has asked Julian to write her character out," the U.K.'s Daily Mail is reporting. "She is filming until August and then wants to leave, going out on a high. She thinks that three series is enough and she wants to get back to the stage and big screen."

Smith's Dowager Countess, a master of the potent one-line put-down, is one of the show's pivotal characters. The Daily Mail's source says she is likely to be struck down by a fatal illness at the end of the third season, which ITV is currently filming in the U.K.

Smith, 77, won a a Best Actress Oscar for playing a troubled teacher in the 1969 film "The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie." She may be best known to today's audiences for her roles in the Harry Potter movies

In November, she'll be seen in the BBC Films comedy "Quartet."

'SNL': Steven Spielberg's 'Laser Cats' -- and Meet 'The Californians'

'SNL': Steven Spielberg's 'Laser Cats' -- and Meet 'The Californians'

Of course Steven Spielberg's "Laser Cats" would be the best one.

Bill Hader and Andy Samberg enlisted the director's help for "Laser Cats 7," the latest in their extremely low-budget saga about a future where lasers fire from cats mouths. It quickly turned into an homage to Spielberg's films, with an E.T. doll at the center of the action, host Josh Brolin bringing back one of the creeepiest "Raiders of the Lost Arc" villains, and Spielberg himself making a "Hitchcockian" cameo... that was somewhat less subtle than Hitchcock's.

An aside: Californians came in for a lot of derision this episode, from hilarious "The Californians" soap opera to Bobby Moynihan's San Diego burrito lover in the "Empire State of Mind" skit. In another skit, "We Got More Bounce in California" functioned as a sort of theme song for two obnoxiously popular kids. Maybe the writers couldn't help but notice Brolin's thorough California-ness.
