James Corden teases new comedy thriller 'The Wrong Man'

James Corden teases new comedy thriller 'The Wrong Man'

James Corden has confirmed plans for his first comedy drama series since Gavin & Stacey.

Corden revealed on Jo Whiley's Radio 2 show last night that he is currently writing the scripts with Horrible Histories actor and Gavin & Stacey co-star Matthew Baynton.

Tabloid reports last year suggested that Corden's new programme would be about a "hero mailroom boy".

Talking to Whiley, Corden said: "I'm writing a TV show at the moment that we're shooting later this year. It's called The Wrong Man.

"I'm writing with a brilliant actor called Matthew Baynton, who played Deano in Gavin & Stacey and people will know him from a brilliant kids show Horrible Histories. One of the best kids TV shows ever.

"It's a thriller comedy. We're writing it now, so who knows how it will evolve?"

Corden's new series is expected to air on BBC One.

David Schwimmer reunites with 'Friends' Lisa Kudrow in 'Web Therapy'

David Schwimmer reunites with 'Friends' Lisa Kudrow in 'Web Therapy'

David Schwimmer has been cast as a guest star in Showtime series Web Therapy.

Schwimmer will play a college professor's son, who is traumatised after witnessing a "romantic encounter" between his dad and the main character Fiona (Lisa Kudrow), reports Entertainment Weekly.

Schwimmer is due to appear in four episodes.

Both Schwimmer and Kudrow starred in NBC's Friends prior to Web Therapy.

Last year, Schwimmer said that he is "forever thankful" to have appeared in Friends and called it the "best job" he ever had.

Kudrow has revealed that her Friends character Phoebe Buffay inspired her "to be more optimistic".

Schwimmer is the second Friends star to join Kudrow in Web Therapy. Courteney Cox, who played Monica in the popular sitcom, appeared in the first season.

BBC News channel must stay 'distinctive' despite cuts

BBC News channel must stay 'distinctive' despite cuts

The BBC's rolling news channel must not allow any forthcoming changes in the BBC cost-cutting drive to "detract from the range and depth of stories" it covers, said the BBC Trust today.

The Trust ran a service review of the 24/7 BBC News channel and the BBC Parliament network, which found that coverage on both channels was "high quality and provides good value for money".

However, the Trust warned that the channel's "content and style distinctive" must be protected in the BBC's cost-cutting programme, which was initiated following the tough new licence fee deal agreed with the government in 2010.

A variety of different austerity measures have been proposed by the BBC towards the aim of saving around £670m a year by 2016/17, including the elimination of BBC Two's daytime budget and a small reduction in scope of BBC News.

The Trust's review found that the BBC News Channel has reached record levels, with 19.9% of UK adults watching it during 2010/11, up from 11.5% in 2006/7.

It revealed that licence fee payers value the channel for its extensive coverage on subjects such as the economy, politics, health and education.

The Trust called on the News Channel to "continue to improve and innovate", as well as remain "distinctive in an increasingly crowded marketplace for news".

It accepted that the channel must play its part in delivering savings for the BBC, but urged management "not to let any changes detract from the range and depth of stories covered".

The Trust also noted that audiences consider BBC Parliament's live coverage from the Commons to be "unique", and also value the opportunity to see government proceedings first hand with analysis.

BBC Parliament is attracting record audiences, said the Trust, attracting more than 1% of viewers for the first time last year. But it ordered the channel to ensure on-screen contextual information "better meets the needs of viewers".

It also endorsed a BBC plan to introduce easier links to other BBC services on BBC Parliament in order to help people more easily find related information.

"It is clear that News Channel and BBC Parliament users see these services as distinctive, offering coverage and perspectives they cannot find elsewhere. It is also encouraging that these services are so consistently providing value for money for licence fee payers," said BBC Trustee David Liddiment, who led the review.

"The past year has seen some hugely significant news stories - from the summer riots and royal wedding at home, to the Japanese earthquake and Arab Spring uprisings abroad - and audiences tell us that for big national stories the News Channel is their 'go-to' service.

"Despite this strong performance the News Channel must keep seeking new ways to improve and innovate. There is no doubt that the marketplace for news is becoming increasingly crowded, so it is vital that the channel uses its resources wisely and maintains its distinctiveness and quality, to ensure it continues to deliver for licence fee payers."

Yesterday, the Trust announced that party political broadcasts around key events such as the Budget will be axed on the BBC in favour of a new system involving "seasonal" spots designed to increase flexibility.

'Simpsons' fans attempt record for marathon TV viewing

'Simpsons' fans attempt record for marathon TV viewing

Simpsons fans are attempting a a world record for marathon TV viewing this week.

A group of 100 participants began watching back-to-back episodes of the animated show this afternoon (February 8) in Los Angeles in a bid to gain entry into the Guinness World Records book.

Viewers are permitted to eat and drink during the record attempt, but will be disqualified if they fall asleep. The last fan standing will be awarded $10,500 (£6,600), as well as Simpsons merchandise supplied by event sponsors Twentieth Century Fox.

Simpsons episodes clock in at around 22 minutes long, which means viewing the show's back catalogue would take more than eight days.

A group of 24 fans set the current record for marathon TV viewing in 2010 when they watched 86 straight hours of the Kiefer Sutherland-starring series.

The Simpsons, now in its 23rd season, is the longest-running animated comedy of all time. Its 500th episode airs later this month.

Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys to Perform at the Grammy Awards

Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys to Perform at the Grammy Awards

Expect some good vibrations at the Grammys this year.

The reunited Beach Boys, including long-estranged singer-songwriter Brian Wilson, will perform at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12. The reconstituted group will deliver their first live performance together in more than two decades, playing with Grammy nominees Foster the People and Maroon 5.

The group announced that it was reforming with its original lineup -- minus Dennis and Carl Wilson, who died in 1983 and 1988, respectively -- in December for a new album and international tour in celebration of the band's 50th anniversary. Brian Wilson, who's notoriously wary of live performances, has not toured with the group since 1965. The group's current lineup consists of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks.

Joe Walsh, Diana Krall and Maceo Parker will also perform at this year's ceremony, the Grammy organization announced Wednesday.

The newly announced artists join a roster of performers that also includes Adele, in her first performance since undergoing vocal cord surgery last year, Kelly Clarkson, Tony Bennett, Chris Brown, Coldplay, Rihanna, Paul McCartney, Katy Perry and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

This year's ceremony, hosted by rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J, will be aired by CBS on Sunday from 8 to 11:30 p.m.

'House' to End After Current Season

'House' to End After Current Season

Fox's medical drama "House M.D." will end its run after its current eighth season.

In a joint announcement, executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs and series star Hugh Laurie said, "After much deliberation, the producers of 'House M.D.' have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004.

"The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature;  he should never be the last one to leave the party," the statement continues. "How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air."

In a separate statement, Fox president of entertainment Kevin Reilly said, "While it’s with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David and Katie have made."

Laurie, Shore and Jacobs went on to thank the "hundreds of dedicated artists and technicians who have given so generously of their energy and talent to make 'House' the show it has been - and perhaps will continue to be for some time, on one cable network or another."

In fact, it's possible, though unlikely, that the show could find a second life via another outlet. In January, Reilly said he would guarantee a strong sendoff for "House" if it ends this season. He also acknowledged that it could potentially move to NBC, since it is produced by Universal Television and both the studio and network are under the NBCUniversal umbrella. NBC had no comment for TheWrap about whether "House" would find a new home with the network.

The series' ratings had been in decline, though not perilously so; for its most recent episode on Monday, the show declined 17 percent from the previous week for a 2.4 rating/6 share in the adults 18-49 demographic.Signs of trouble for the show began to emerge last May, when the series received an 11th-hour renewal for an eighth season, following a long negotiation process between Fox and NBC Universal, which owns the series.

May also saw the departure of co-star Lisa Edelstein, who had played Dr. Lisa Cuddy since 2004.

Former 'Survivor' Producer Bruce Beresford-Redman Extradited to Mexico

Former 'Survivor' Producer Bruce Beresford-Redman Extradited to Mexico

Bruce Beresford-Redman, the former "Survivor" producer who's accused of murdering his wife in Mexico during an April 2010 vacation, was extradited to that country on Wednesday to face charges, NBC Los Angeles reports.

A spokesman for Beresford-Redman's attorney told NBC that the ex reality TV producer waived his right to appeal extradition.

Beresford-Redman is suspected of killing his spouse, Monica Burgos, while the two were in Cancun with their two children. Burgos' body was found in a sewer pipe near the resort where the family was staying. Prosecutors said that she appeared to have been strangled. The producer had reported her missing two days before, but reports from hotel staff that the couple had a "violent" argument during their vacation raised the specter of foul play on Beresford-Redman's part.

Also creating suspicion: Burgos' friend, Norma Paula De Ahlf, filed a restraining order against the producer's father, David Beresford-Redmond, and noted in an affidavit that Burgos had expressed concern that the father and son were plotting.

“Monica shared with me her concerns that Bruce and his father, David, were planning something,” De Ahlf wrote in the affidavit.

De Ahlf added that the elder Beresford-Redman had approached her at the restaurant she worked at and threatened her with his “hand in his shirt," as if he were carrying a gun.

The producer was arrested in Los Angeles by U.S. marshals in Nov. 2010.

"After nearly 15 months in United States custody, Bruce will finally be returned to Mexico to stand trial for Monica's murder," Burgos' family said in a statement, according to NBC. "This day marks a major milestone in our journey to ensure justice for Monica."

Pauly D's 'Jersey Shore' Spinoff and 'Punk'd' Revival Get Back-to-Back Premieres

Pauly D's 'Jersey Shore' Spinoff and 'Punk'd' Revival Get Back-to-Back Premieres

Pauly D's "Jersey Shore" spinoff and the revamped hidden-camera series "Punk'd" will premiere back-to-back on March 29, MTV said Wednesday.

"Punk'd," which will feature a revolving cast of celebrity hosts including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Hayden Panettiere, will kick off the premieres at 10 p.m. on MTV. Prank victims on the upcoming season will include Khloe Kardashian Odom, Tyler Posey (of the network's "Teen Wolf") and Demi Lovato.

Ashton Kutcher -- who created and starred on the series in its original iteration -- will remain involved with the series as executive producer, along with co-creator and Katalyst Films partner Jason Goldberg. Lauren Dolgen, Colin Nash, Kristina Edwards and Jennifer Russakoff will serve as executives in charge of production for MTV.

"The Pauly D Project," meanwhile, will feature "Jersey Shore" star "Pauly D" DelVecchio as he spreads his orange-hued wings and departs his Seaside Heights, N.J. stomping grounds on his quest for DJ stardom. The 12-episode series will follow DelVecchio as he signs a recording contract with rapper 50 Cent's G-Note Records and joins Britney Spears' Femme Fatale tour, while accompanied by a cabal of longtime friends.

Produced by 495 Productions -- the same people who graced the world with "Jersey Shore" -- "The Pauly D Project" will premiere immediately following the "Punk'd" debut, at 10:30 p.m. on March 29.

Gary Busey Bankruptcy Shocker: Actor Files for Chapter 7 Protection

Gary Busey Bankruptcy Shocker: Actor Files for Chapter 7 Protection

Apparently, taking part in "Celebrity Wife Swap" wasn't Gary Busey's ticket to financial security.

Gary Busey has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection

"Lethal Weapon" star Busey filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Tuesday, revealing debts that far outweigh his assets.

In the papers, the actor -- born William Busey -- indicates that he has $50,000 or less in assets -- while his liabilities are somewhere in the $500,000 to $1 million range.

Busey, 67, lists various lawyers, the IRS, Wells Fargo bank, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, and a storage company as entities that he might owe money to.

Carla Loeffler, who filed suit against Busey in November for allegedly tackling her at the Tulsa airport, is also listed among potential creditors.

A statement provided to TheWrap by Busey's manager says that the filing is "the final chapter" in a years-long process of getting his affairs in order after "past unfortunate choices, associations, events and circumstances that visited themselves upon this great American icon."

The statement also likens Busey to "great American institutions" such as General Motors and American Airlines, which have also found themselves in difficult financial straits lately.

Read the full, and fully entertaining, statement below.

"As with many great American institutions, i.e., General Motors, American Airlines, and many others who have utilized the strategic business tool called bankruptcy, Gary Busey’s filing is the final chapter in a process that began a few years ago of jettisoning the litter of past unfortunate choices, associations, events and circumstances that visited themselves upon this great American icon, to enable the start of a new and clear path to peace, happiness and success with his career and his wonderful new soulmate, Steffanie, and their son, Luke."
