Will Mellor on 'Broadchurch': 'It's the biggest drama I've ever done'

Will Mellor has spoken about his role in new ITV drama Broadchurch.

The crime thriller stars Doctor Who actors David Tennant and Arthur Darvill, as well as Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur) and Vicky McClure (This Is England).

Mellor told Digital Spy that he is "really excited" to be a part of the eight-part series, which he described as "the biggest drama I've ever done".

"I don't want to give anything away about my character, but all I can say is, it's the most different character I've ever played," he hinted. "I will look and be a lot different than how you're used to seeing me."

Mellor - who stars in BBC sitcom In with the Flynns - added that he is keen to balance comedy and drama in his career.

"I'm really grateful that ITV have given me another chance to do a drama," the 36-year-old said. "It means that I don't get stuck in the pigeonhole of being a comedy actor."

The second series of Will Mellor's BBC One comedy In with the Flynns begins on Friday, August 17 at 9.30pm on BBC One.

'Take Me Out' renewed for two more series by ITV

Take Me Out has been renewed for two more series by ITV.

The Paddy McGuinness dating show will return to screens later this year accompanied again by its spinoff show Take Me Out: The Gossip, which has become ITV2's third most-popular series behind Celebrity Juice and The Only Way Is Essex.

Reacting to the news, McGuinness commented: "I'm looking forward to warming up those winter nights with some hot dates."

Suzy Lamb, Head of Entertainment at production company Thames, said: "We're delighted to be returning and proud that ITV see the series as a key part of their primetime schedules.

"To date, Take Me Out has produced three engagements, with possibly more to come - almost a better hit rate than most online dating websites."

Take Me Out, which first aired in 2010, features 30 single girls who judge prospective dates by either keeping on or turning off their lights.

Take Me Out: The Gossip launched alongside the main show's third series earlier this year with TOWIE's Mark Wright and Zoe Hardman as hosts. Both will return for future editions.

Take Me Out's renewal comes despite controversies over contestant Aaron Withers's assault conviction and past as an escort and his date Wen-Jing Mo's admission that she once worked as a £200-an-hour prostitute.

Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat coy on multi-Doctor anniversary episode

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has remained coy about rumours that the show's 50th anniversary will involve a multi-Doctor episode.

BBC Radio 5 Live's Richard Bacon probed Moffat on the subject this afternoon, but the TV writer refused to confirm or deny suggestions that previous Doctors such as David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston could return.

"I'm not telling you," said Moffat. When Bacon replied: "That means a yes," Moffat added: "Is it? Oh good."

Bacon continued to try to tease information from Moffat on the subject, discovering that the show boss recently had dinner with Tennant,

"I saw [David] the other night, he's in very good form," said Moffat.

"He's a mate of mine. We went for the dinner the other night. I showed him photos of the new series."

After describing Sylvester McCoy as a "cracking Doctor", Bacon jokingly asked if he would also be involved in a multi-Doctor special. Moffat still refused to play ball on the subject.

Speaking about a possible return last week, Tennant added fuel to fan speculation, commenting: "I cannot be drawn on anything.

"Who knows what will happen next year? I'm sure there are lots of plans being discussed. I am not confirming nor denying anything."

Tennant was the show's Tenth Doctor between 2005 and 2010.

Matt Smith has spoken on numerous occasions about his support for a multi-Doctor episode and his desire to work alongside Tennant and Eccleston.

Ratings: 'The Closer' Finale Hits Summer High for Cable, With 9.1M Viewers

TNT's "The Closer" ended its seven-season run Monday night, with the series finale drawing in nearly 9.1 million total viewers.

That makes it cable's No. 1 series telecast so far this summer.

Though impressive, Monday's series finale drew the second-highest total viewership in "The Closer"'s history -- the September 2007 mid-season finale amassed 9.2 million total viewers.

In terms of key demos, Monday night's swan song for "The Closer" -- which starred Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Leigh Johnson, deputy chief of the LAPD's Major Crimes Unit -- averaged more than 2 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 2.7 viewers in the 25-54 demo.

"The Closer" finale also helped to boost TNT's new offering "Major Crimes," which premiered following the "Closer" finale.

The "Major Crimes" debut brought in 7.2 million total viewers, making it cable's most-watched new series launch this year.

Next Monday, "Major Crimes" -- a spinoff of "The Closer," which stars Mary McDonnell in her "Closer" role of Captain Sharon Raydor -- will take "The Closer"'s 9 p.m. timeslot, followed by new episodes of "Perception."

"The Closer," which premiered in June 2005, was produced for TNT by The Shephard/Robin Company, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

In addition to McConnell -- who was nominated for an Emmy for her work on "The Closer" -- "Major Crimes" stars "Closer" alum G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz and Phillip P. Keene.

Benedict Cumberbatch on posh-bashing: I'm castigated as a rich b**tard

Benedict Cumberbatch has said that he is not happy about the "posh-bashing" he sometimes suffers.

The actor told the Radio Times that such attention makes him consider moving to the US.

"All the posh-bashing that goes on," Cumberbatch said. "I wasn't born into land or titles, or new money, or an oil rig.

"[I'm] castigated as a moaning, rich public school b**tard, complaining about only getting posh roles."

He added: "So domestic, and so dumb. It makes me think I want to go to America."

Cumberbatch has previously complained about being typecast because of his upbringing.

"Being a posh actor in England, you can't escape class-typing, from whatever side you look at it," he said last year.

"I realised quite early on that, although I wasn't trying to make a career speciality of it, I was playing slightly asexual, sociopathic intellectuals."

When it was suggested that drinking green tea had turned him 'all LA', Cumberbatch said: "No, I'm just being good today.

"And actually, you know, LA is not all that abstemious. There's much more drinking and partying going on than I thought there would be.

"It's all about extremes with that place, so you get the worst excesses of everything - the health-kick thing, over-indulgence, recreational drug use, everything. It's paradise!"

'Doctor Who' complexity should be celebrated, says Steven Moffat

Steven Moffat has hit back at critics of recent series of Doctor Who, claiming that fans should celebrate the show's more complex plotlines.

The showrunner also claimed that he got no "actual feedback" from viewers that the show had become too complicated.

Moffat did acknowledge that the criticism existed among fans, but claimed that none of it came from children who watched the show, which satisfied him.

"It's demanding television, but isn't that something to celebrate?" Moffat told Richard Bacon's BBC Radio 5 Live show.

"We are doing the opposite of dumbing down. Shouldn't that be celebrated and not criticised?"

Commenting on the subject of whether the BBC sci-fi series is a children's show or an adult drama, he joked: "Everyone by the end of the opening music is a kid!

"It is watched by more adults than kids, but there is something at its heart, which belongs to children.

"All the best stuff is children's. You look at a risotto on a menu and you see the children's menu and there's sausage and chips. All the good stuff belongs to children."

Doctor Who's new series starts soon on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.

'Only Way Is Essex's Lucy Mecklenburgh: 'Sam Faiers is not my friend'

The Only Way Is Essex's Lucy Mecklenburgh has claimed that Sam Faiers has "stabbed her in the back" again.

The reality star has been feuding with Faiers in the latest series of the ITV2 show over claims that she has proof Mario Falcone cheated on Mecklenburgh.

The pair previously tried to resolve the situation, but in tomorrow night's show, Mecklenburgh tells co-stars Lydia Bright and Danni Park-Dempsey: "If she had proof, when I went round to her house, why didn't she give me the proof then, rather than make up with me and carry on starting it all up again?

"Let's be fair - it's not the first time she has stabbed me in the back.

"I broke up with Mark Wright and then that night she got in a cab with him and slept with him. That's not a friend."

Meanwhile, Charlie King is angry when he finds out that Bobby Norris confided in his ex-girlfriend Gemma Collins about his feelings for King.

Mecklenburgh previously admitted that Faiers's claims tarnished her engagement to Falcone.

The Only Way Is Essex continues tomorrow (August 15) at 10pm on ITV2.

Charlie Sheen Returns to Twitter, Plugs 'Anger Management'

Breaking an agonizing silence, Charlie Sheen has returned to Twitter after a month-long absence.

But don't look for any proclamations regarding tiger blood, à la last March, when he first signed onto the social media service.

Sheen blew the dust off his Twitter account Tuesday to promote his father Martin Sheen's guest appearance on Thursday's episode of Charlie's FX sitcom "Anger Management."

"It's on! My pop guest stars Thursday on Anger Management," Charlie tweeted. "Watch my dad show up as my dad 9:30p on FX. Best yet!!"

He also linked to a photo of him with his father laughing it up on the set of the show.

The elder Sheen will play the father of Charlie's therapist character, Charlie Goodson.

Prior to Tuesday's plug, Charlie had last tweeted July 13, offering the cryptic message, "Reach for the stars everyone. Dogspeed cadre. C out."

Last week, Lionsgate executives said that "Anger Management," which has averaged 3.4 million total viewers through its first seven episodes, will likely get its full 90-episode order from FX after its 10-episode trial run is through.

Ryan Lochte to Make a Splash With '90210' Cameo

Ryan Lochte is dipping his toe into the waters of scripted television.

Olympic swimmer Lochte, who just racked up five medals at the London games, will follow up his triumph at the Olympics with an appearance on the CW's "90210," CBS said on Tuesday.

Lochte will cameo as a guest at a resort where Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) and Max Miller (Josh Zuckerman) are staying in an effort to strengthen their relationship.

The episode will air Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.

Alas, Lochte won't be showing off his swimming skills during his appearance.

“We only wish the episode was a surf event so we could have gotten him in the water, but he deserves a little rest on dry land,” "90210" executive producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen said of his cameo.

Lochte expressed interest in competing on a reality series during an interview with "Today" host Matt Lauer last week.

"I'm definitely looking towards 'Dancing With the Stars' and 'The Bachelor," he told Lauer.
