'Two and a Half Men' Co-Creator Lee Aronsohn Steps Down as Showrunner

'Two and a Half Men' Co-Creator Lee Aronsohn Steps Down as Showrunner

There's been another "Two and a Half Men" shakeup -- but this one has nothing to do with volatile cast members.

Lee Aronsohn, who created the hit CBS series with Chuck Lorre, is stepping down as the series' showrunner, an individual with knowledge of the decision confirms to TheWrap.

Aronsohn, who has been with the series for nine years, is in final negotiations to remain on as an executive consultant for the show.

No reason was given for Aronsohn's decision.

Don Reo and Jim Patterson, who began serving as executive producers for the series in 2011, in time for Ashton Kutcher's replacement of series star Charlie Sheen, are in final talks to become co-show runners with Lorre. (Patterson has been involved with the series in a variety of capacities since 2005.)

"Two and a Half Men" executive producer Eddie Gorodetsky is expected to remain on the series, as well as to maintain his duties as consulting producer on Lorre's other hit series, "The Big Bang Theory."

All of this is pending CBS' renewal of the series for a 10th season, which has not yet been formally announced.

will.i.am scolded by 'Voice' UK bosses for texting during live show?

The Voice UK star will.i.am has apparently been told off by BBC bosses for texting during the programme.

The Black Eyed Peas singer was caught on camera using his phone during Saturday's live show.

According to The Sunday Express, producers told the coach that he appeared "unprofessional" as well as "rude and disrespectful" by not paying attention to the stage.

The 37-year-old insisted that he "wasn't being rude" and was simply conforming to the "new way" fans follow the singing contest.

He wrote on Twitter on Saturday: "If you saw me on my phone I wasn't being rude... I was connecting to people watching."

On Sunday, the star added: "TV, phone, laptop, & tablet... its a new day... if I don't tweet during live TV I'm not connecting to people watching in the new way."

Susan Boyle for 'Britain's Got Talent' final?

Susan Boyle for 'Britain's Got Talent' final?

Susan Boyle has been tipped for a return to Britain's Got Talent.

The singer, who rose to fame when she impressed judges and viewers with her first audition performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' in 2009, has been linked with an appearance on the ITV1 talent show's grand final next month.

"Susan is the most successful reality contestant of all time," a show insider told The Sun. "It will be a huge coup to get her back on the show. Fans won't want to miss her.

"The Susan that was on the show has changed so much. If they can make the schedules work, then it will be unmissable telly."

Since finishing in second place on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, Boyle has sold over 18 million albums and achieved international fame.

If her appearance is confirmed, it will be the first time she has returned to the show.

I Dreamed A Dream, a musical based on Boyle's life story, recently received its world premiere at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle.

Amy Childs: 'Lauren Goodger should quit Only Way Is Essex'

Amy Childs: 'Lauren Goodger should quit Only Way Is Essex'

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Amy Childs has supported Lauren Goodger's potential departure from the show.

Goodger's future on the ITV2 programme has been put in doubt following a row with producers last week and she is not mentioned as part of the cast for a special episode in Marbella.

Childs, who quit TOWIE after its second series at the beginning of 2011, has now urged her ex co-star to "move on" from the show.

"I don't know the ins and outs of what happened as obviously I'm not a part of that anymore," she wrote in her New column. "But if she has quit or has been axed then I think this could be a good thing.

"I reckon it's a good time for Lauren to move on from TOWIE. She has a successful business and lots of fans, so she'll be just fine with or without the show."

Goodger has declined to confirm her TOWIE status, saying only that she is discussing "some issues" with bosses.

However, she seemingly hinted at her departure in a Twitter message on Sunday (April 29), which read: "Sometimes in life everything happens for a reason I don't no why but all u can be is true 2 yourself and do what makes u happy #loyal."

Wilbur Smith's 'Courtney' Books Acquired for TV by Corona Pictures

Wilbur Smith's 'Courtney' Books Acquired for TV by Corona Pictures

The first three books in Wilbur Smith's best-selling "Courtney" series of novels have been acquired by Corona Pictures for TV adaptation.

"Birds of Prey," "Monsoon" and "Blue Horizon" will be adapted into several series for a worldwide television audience, the company said Tuesday.

Spanning three generations of the Courtney family, the novel series chronicles the clan's battles to secure its fortunes in 17th-century Africa, where "sea-faring empires, marauding pirates and the people who already live there" fight it out for control of the land and its treasures.

In all, Rhodesian-born author Smith has sold about 130 million copies of his books worldwide.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Wilbur's work to the screen," Corona principals Richard Johns and Rupert Jermyn said of the acquisition. "So many people in so many countries have loved his books, and we now see a great new audience for his stories."

Added Jeremy Trevathan, Smith's publisher at Pan Macmillan, "It's terrific to see that the potential for film and TV drama in Wilbur's fiction is being recognized and we're delighted to be working with Corona to bring the Courtney novels to a new generation whether it be on the small screen or through his fantastic backlist."

Gary Barlow 'signs £2 million X Factor return deal'

Gary Barlow 'signs £2 million X Factor return deal'

Gary Barlow has reportedly signed his new X Factor deal.

The Take That singer, who recently confirmed his return to the panel, is said to have agreed a £2 million contract to return for a second year, reports The Sun.

Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh are expected to also sign new deals later this week.

The 'Young' singer - who is currently top of the UK iTunes chart with her debut single - will reportedly see her fee doubled to £500,000.

Simon Cowell has said that Contostavlos's job on the show is safe despite the recent release of a sex tape featuring the star.

Louis Walsh was the first X Factor judge to confirm his return for a ninth series last month.

Kelly Rowland is the only judge not to confirm a return from last year's series, with former judge Dannii Minogue rumoured to be signing a deal to replace her.

Barlow and his wife Dawn are currently expecting their fourth child together.

'New Girl's Jake Johnson: 'Nick is an idiot'

'New Girl's Jake Johnson: 'Nick is an idiot'

New Girl star Jake Johnson has revealed that he hopes for more screen time with Zooey Deschanel.

The actor plays Nick in the Fox sitcom, and stated that fans have responded positively to his character's romantic tension with Deschanel's Jess.

Johnson explained that he had asked the show's writers about more scenes with the pair, but they had expressed concerns over fans getting tired of a 'will they, won't they?' storyline.

However, he said that scripts have now focused on more scenes between the couple as per fans' requests.

"Personally, I love the Nick-Jess stuff as an actor," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"At the Paley Festival, every other question from the crowd was, 'How come there's not more of Nick and Jess?' The next script we got was, 'OK, these characters are back to being in love with each other'.

"Part of me thinks that the people spoke, and the writers listened. In my little conspiracy theory world, that's what happened."

Speaking about his character, he added: "I feel like Nick, at the beginning, was very solid and grumpy and kept everybody together.

"And now when I watch episodes, I'm thinking, 'This guy is an idiot, he's not keeping anyone together'. But I think it's more fun this way."

New Girl was recently renewed for a second season by Fox.

The show will air its first season finale on May 8, 2012.

'True Blood' Alexander Skarsgård: 'Eric and Bill have a bromance'

'True Blood' Alexander Skarsgård: 'Eric and Bill have a bromance'

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård has hinted that fans can expect a "bromance" between Eric Northman and Bill Compton.

The relationship between the rival vampires will soften in the HBO drama's fifth season, Skarsgård told E! Online.

"There's a bit of a bromance going on this year between [my character] Eric and Bill (Stephen Moyer)," said the Swedish actor.

"It's fun because I love Stephen Moyer to death and after four years of butting heads, this is more like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We have a common enemy and we have to team up this year."

Lucy Griffiths will join True Blood next season as Eric's sister Nora. The actress recently revealed that the two siblings have "a fiery love/hate relationship".

True Blood returns to HBO on June 10 in the US. In the UK, the fifth season will air on FX in the autumn.

'Jericho' to be revived by Netflix?

'Jericho' to be revived by Netflix?

Netflix is in talks with CBS to revive cult drama Jericho.

The series - which starred Skeet Ulrich and Lennie James - followed the residents of the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, as they struggle to survive in the aftermath of nuclear attacks on the US.

CBS originally axed the show in 2007 after one season, but later reversed their decision following a fan campaign. After a seven-part second run, Jericho was cancelled once again due to low ratings.

Netflix has now approached CBS TV Studios about the possibility of a third season, reports TV Guide.

The move is fuelled by the success of Jericho repeats on Netflix's on-demand service, four years after the show's second cancellation.

Netflix is also producing a revival of axed Fox comedy Arrested Development, and was reportedly in talks to pick up ABC's low-rating supernatural drama The River.

In March, the company declined the chance to produce a second season of cancelled Fox drama Terra Nova.

'Walking Dead' star Jeffrey DeMunn joins Frank Darabont's 'LA Noir'

'Walking Dead' star Jeffrey DeMunn joins Frank Darabont's 'LA Noir'

Jeffrey DeMunn and Andrew Rothenberg have joined the cast of Frank Darabont's pilot LA Noir.

The TNT drama, set in the '40s and '50s, will focus on the conflict between the LAPD and the mob, led by gangster Mickey Cohen.

Both DeMunn and Rothenberg previously worked with Darabont on zombie series The Walking Dead.

Rothenberg wrote on Twitter: "Get ready Walking Dead fans, I'll be working with Frank Darabont, Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn on LA Noir, a pilot for TNT!"

Rothenberg's character Jim was killed off in the The Walking Dead's first season, while DeMunn's Dale died in season two's 'Judge, Jury, Executioner'.

Darabont himself was fired from his role as the AMC drama's showrunner, reportedly following a dispute over budget.

Jon Bernthal - who played Shane on The Walking Dead - was previously cast in LA Noir as Los Angeles cop Joe Teague.

The pilot also stars Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Neal McDonough (Justified), Alexa Davalos (Clash of the Titans) and Simon Pegg (Star Trek).

'The Voice' UK revamp ordered after viewing figures fall?

'The Voice' UK revamp ordered after viewing figures fall?

The Voice UK will reportedly be revamped following concerns about the most recent instalments of the show.

According to the Daily Star, producers are planning dramatic changes aimed at regaining viewers after the programme's figures dropped last weekend.

The Voice UK Results Show 1: Will.i.am and Jessie J react to the results.

The coaches will reportedly no longer perform a song together at the start of the show, after criticism of their rendition of U2's 'Beautiful Day'. Instead they will sing with their own acts, following the lead of the US version of the programme.

A string of guest stars, including Adele, are also apparently being lined up to perform alongside the contestants.

In addition, double eliminations from each team will be introduced to create more drama.

The coaches have also reportedly been asked to become more critical and cruel, and have been told to 'do their homework' following an incident when Sir Tom Jones called contestant Joelle Moses "Jolene".

A source said: "The BBC know that The Voice is liked by fans but the first live show didn't quite go as planned.

"They're ordering a shake-up because they cannot afford to lose viewers."

Jerry Seinfeld's Next Project Involves Larry David, Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin and Cars

Jerry Seinfeld's Next Project Involves Larry David, Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin and Cars

What's the deal with all those cryptic tweets Jerry Seinfeld's been posting in the last few weeks? They're leading up to Seinfeld's announcement of his next big project, which includes Larry David, Ricky Gervais, Alec Baldwin and some very cool cars.

The project the comedian has been referring to on Twitter is not a TV commercial, but the aforementioned celebs are "indeed elements of the project," a rep for Seinfeld told TheWrap.

Seinfeld's latest tweets on the project came on Monday, when he posted a pair of photos -- one of him walking with David and another of he and David getting into a 1952 VW Bug -- along with the tweets "Seiny and LD back together again? What could this mean?" and "Here's a clue: A 1952 VW."

On April 17, Seinfeld tweeted "New Seiny Gig Update: Always lovable Ricky Gervais and myself shooting today in City Island, NY," along with a photo of Gervais and him in a vintage sports car.

On April 9, Seinfeld tweeted "My New Project: Shooting today in Battery Park City," along with a photo of himself inside a DeLorean, and on March 9, he tweeted, "Working on my New Thing. Shooting in Manhattan with the Great @alecbaldwin," along with a photo of him walking with Baldwin on the Upper West Side in New York City.

Seinfeld, who was the first guest co-host on the post-Regis Philbin "Live! With Kelly" last November, is currently touring with his latest standup show.

Ratings: CBS Wins Monday for First Time Since 'Voice' Premiere

CBS was the top-rated Monday network for the first time since "The Voice" season premiere in February, according to preliminary numbers.

The network took an overall ratings win thanks largely to the top-rated "Two and a Half Men," while NBC's "The Voice" and "Smash" and ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" all dipped. CBS had an average 3.1 rating/8 share in the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic. It was the second most-watched network in total viewers with 10 million, behind ABC, which had 14.4 million total viewers.

CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" at 8 p.m. inched up from its last original two weeks ago for a 3.2/10 in the demo and 7.9 million total viewers. "2 Broke Girls" at 8:30 was also up slightly, drawing a 3.5/9 in the demo and 9.1 million total viewers. Though down slightly from its last original airing two weeks ago, "Two and a Half Men" at 9 was the night's highest-rated program with a 3.7/9 in the demo, and 11.2 million total viewers. NBC took second place in the ratings and third in total viewers, averaging 2.9/8 in the demo and 8 million. Both of its offerings showed minor downturns, starting with "The Voice" at 8, which dipped 8 percent in the demo to a 3.5/9. It had 9.4 million total viewers. "Smash" at 10 dropped to a series low of 1.8/5, and had 5.4 million total viewers.

ABC came in third in ratings, averaging 2.6/7 in the demo. "Dancing With the Stars" at 8 was down 16 percent in the demo with a 2.7/7 but was the night's most-watched program with 15.8 million total viewers. "Castle" at 10 enjoyed a 14 percent boost in the demo from its last original two weeks ago, posting a 2.4/6. It had 11.3 million total viewers.

Fox took fourth place in the demo and total viewers with an average 2.0/5 and 6.8 million. "Bones" at 8 posted a 1.9/6 -- a series low -- and 7 million total viewers. "House" at 9 drew a 2.1/5 and 6.6 million total viewers.

The CW enjoyed a night of growth, with "Gossip Girl" at 8 jumping 20 percent in the demo for 0.6/2 with 1.1 million total viewers and "Hart of Dixie" also growing 20 percent in the demo, receiving a 0.6/1 and 1.3 million total viewers.

Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Starring in 'True Detective' at HBO

Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Starring in 'True Detective' at HBO

"EDtv" co-stars and real-life pals Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are nearing a deal to co-star in "True Detective," an anthology crime series at HBO.

Multiple sources confirm to TheWrap that the series, written by "The Killing" writer Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga ("Jane Eyre"), would star the duo as Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), a pair of detectives whose paths cross when they're both trying to solve a 17-year-old serial murder mystery in Louisiana.

The project was developed by Anonymous Content, and will be produced by Richard Brown, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Pizzolatto and Fukunaga.

The story would begin with the 1995 murder and pick up when the case is reopened in 2012. McConaughey and Harrelson would star in eight episodes for the show's first season, which would end with the case being solved. Deadline.com first reported the story.

Subsequent seasons would revolve around new stories and characters, not unlike FX's "American Horror Story." Given the potential for a limited time commitment, "True Detective," like "AHS," would be likely to attract a longer list of possible stars for future seasons.

McConaughey and Harrelson also co-starred in the movie "Surfer, Dude" and both made cameos in "Welcome to Hollywood."

Tulisa Contostavlos: 'X Factor will likely have shocks this year'

Tulisa Contostavlos: 'X Factor will likely have shocks this year'

Tulisa Contostavlos has predicted that X Factor producers will aim to provide "shocks" for this year's series.

The X Factor judge warned fans that the show will likely "reinvent" itself in order to remain fresh and compete with Strictly Come Dancing when it returns.

"Every day is a competition whether you're in television or music - you're always fighting to be the best," she told The Sun.

"You need to keep reinventing yourself and changing things up and keeping people entertained. So I'm sure they will do something that either shocks people or just gets the viewers excited this year."

Contostavlos is expected to return as a judge for her second year with a rumoured pay increase to £500,000.

Gary Barlow has confirmed his return for the latest run, with Louis Walsh also expected to sign up soon, although Kelly Rowland will not be a judge this series.

Simon Cowell has reportedly championed former judge Dannii Minogue as his preferred choice for Rowland's replacement.

Tulisa Contostavlos has spoken of her approval of Minogue's possible appointment.

The former N-Dubz singer is currently number one in the iTunes UK chart with her debut solo single 'Young'.

The Kumars will make a TV return on Sky1 this autumn, it has been announced.

The fictional Indian family will reform for a new run of the comedy chat show, which will see the Kumars downsize to a new flat in Hounslow as a result of the recession.

Stars Sanjeev Bhaskar (Sanjeev), Meera Syal (Ummi), Indira Joshi (Madhuri) and Vincent Ebrahim (Ashwin) have all reunited for the show.

Bhaskar commented: "It's incredibly exciting to revisit these warm, oddball characters and to be given the opportunity to bring them up to date.

"We've tried to retain what viewers loved about the original show and to inject new characters and elements in a slightly new format that we hope will appeal to an even broader audience."

Telemundo Plans Social Firsts for Billboard Latin Music Awards

Telemundo has announced a series of social TV firsts for the Billboard Latin Music Awards, airing April 26 at 7 p.m.

The Hispanic broadcaster has partnered with three heavyweights in the social community – Shazam, Trendrr and Klout – for a series of initiatives it champions as a landmark for the U.S. Hispanic audience.

“This is an overload of social experiences,” Borja Perez, SVP of Digital and Social Media for Telemundo Media, told TheWrap. “We’re extremely committed to social media and it’s not us, it’s the consumer. The U.S. Hispanic community is uber-social.

“What well see the night of the Billboards is really cool,” Perez added. “It’s the first time it’s been done in the U.S. Hispanic market.”

So what is Telemundo doing?

It has partnered with Klout in naming the top 12 scorers influencers in “the music, entertainment and Latino categories.” Klout analyzes a user’s engagement across social networks and gives them a ranking based off that.

Sponsored by State Farm, viewers can Shazam interviews with the talent attending, such as Pitbull and Shakira. Once they Shazam the show, viewers can access information about their favorite artists on the talent, including videos and pictures.

As for Trendrr, a social media analytics company, Telemundo will partner with them to offer a ranking of the most buzzed-about celebrities the night of the show.

Trendrr will not only help Telemundo measure the social sentiment around the show but will curate a ranking of the hottest topics and top five artists during the show. Trendrr’s service filters data from Twitter and Facebook in both Spanish and English.

“When we saw the Oscars and how they were creating these raknings, I met with my team and said, ‘How and when can we do something like this?” Perez said.

Now they have, but the real test will be whether this builds buzz around and ratings for the show, which has aired on Telemundo since 1999.

And what does the growing Spanish-language network think all these social intiatives will do?

"Right now, we are totally in the development phases of our strategy, working very close with the NBC Universal team," Perez said. "My role is, I want to deliver the maximum amount of engeagement between platforms."
