Does Alec Baldwin Know Fate Of ’30 Rock’?

Does Alec Baldwin Know Fate Of ’30 Rock’?

Alec Baldwin Leaving 30 RockHow NBC’s Thursday night comedy block will change next season is still up in the air. But a piqued Alec Baldwin tweeted this morning: “I think I’m leaving NBC just in time.” The 30 Rock star, as Deadline reported earlier, has already “quietly re-upped” for another season if the series is brought back.

Unless he’s heard that 30 Rock won’t be renewed. Hard to tell if Baldwin scooped news this morning because, over the last six 30 Rock seasons, he has threatened to leave the show, to leave acting, and to leave America for a myriad political and personal reasons. This time Baldwin is raging on Twitter because he tweeted that “a crew that identified themselves as being with The Today Show” showed up outside his NYC apartment and camped out along with the tabloid press. The cameras were there because Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin was charged last week with allegedly stalking the actor.

Quartet Of Actors Join Syfy Pilot ‘Rewind’

Quartet Of Actors Join Syfy Pilot ‘Rewind’

Oscar-nominated actress Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Jennifer Ferrin (The Cape), Robbie Jones (Hellcats) and Keon Mohajeri have been added to Syfy’s two-hour pilot Rewind, joining previously cast Shane McRae. Written by Justin Marks and directed by Jack Bender, Rewind revolves around a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who must use untested technology to travel back in time to alter past events in order to change the future and avoid a devastating terrorist attack.

Castle-Hughes, repped by Industry Entertainment, will play Priya, the team’s a-typical historian, a behavioral anthropologist who provides analytical context to the project and the missions, and whose knowledge of history extends beyond the boundaries of facts. Ferrin, repped by Gersh and TMT Entertainment, will play Bryce, a brilliant scientist who graduated MIT when she was 18; the smartest person in the room who is obsessive and driven and doesn’t really care what people think of her.

Jones, repped by Gersh, Untitled and the Van Johnson Co., will play Danny, Henry Knox’s (McRae) friend and the man Knox trusts most to help him get the job done as they embark on their perilous mission into the past. Untitled-repped Mohajeri will play Charlie, a mathematician who has patented an innovative piece of technology that can reduce history to mathematics, in order to measure the team’s actions in the past. Rewind, from BermanBraun and Universal Cable Prods, is executive produced by Marks, Tom Spezialy, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Production on the pilot is set to begin this month.

Fox Pulls ‘Breaking In’ Off The Schedule

Fox Pulls ‘Breaking In’ Off The Schedule

Breaking In‘s return proved short-lived. The network is pulling the sophomore comedy off the schedule for the remainder for the season. Following Raising Hope‘s season finale next Tuesday, Breaking In was slated to resume airing originals in the 9:30 PM slot after New Girl. Now the network will air New Girl repeats in the time period. It hasn’t been determined when Breaking In‘s unaired episodes will run, with summer considered a strong possibility. Breaking In‘s fate mirrors that of freshman Fox comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter, which was also recently pulled off the schedule in favor of repeats.

Breaking In, which got a second-season pickup after being cancelled last May and a revamp, has been underperforming, opening its sophomore season with a 1.7/4 in adults 18-49 last month and logging a 1.3/3 in its most recent airing, tying a season low. It looks like Fox is looking to bolster its already renewed New Girl by double-pumping the freshman comedy.

Britney Spears Reaches $15M 'X Factor' Agreement

Britney Spears Reaches $15M 'X Factor' Agreement

Britney Spears has reached an agreement to serve as a judge on Simon Cowell's "The X Factor" -- and the payday is really something to sing about.

The "Womanizer" singer will collect $15 million overall for the gig -- approximately $13 million to judge music-industry aspirants alongside Cowell and record executive L.A. Reid, and the rest as a bonus for performing on the show, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

The deal has been agreed upon, but has not yet been signed. Spears is still under a conservatorship following her mid-2000s breakdown, with her father, Jamie Spears, serving as her guardian.

Fox had no comment for TheWrap on this story, and a spokeswoman for "The X Factor" refused to confirm that the show is in talks with Spears. Spears' manager has not yet returned TheWrap's call for comment.

As reported exclusively by TheWrap in March, Spears rejected a $10 million offer to judge on the show, and instead was seeking $20 million for the gig.

Though Spears won't be getting exactly what she was hoping for, the singer's payday does compare favorably to her soon-to-be peers in the music-competition arena: Christina Aguilera is raking in upwards of $10 million to mentor the current second season of NBC's "The Voice." And Spears' "X Factor" predecessor, Paula Abdul received a relatively paltry $2.5 million to judge on the first season.

The individual told TheWrap that, as of Tuesday night, the "X Factor" and Spears camps were still weeks away from a deal, with "X Factor" looking for ways to trim its budget so it could present a more favorable offer for Spears. However, reports Tuesday night that the two sides had already reached a deal spurred the parties to come to an agreement earlier.

Following its first season, which failed by a long shot to perform up to Cowell's predictions, "The X Factor" went into full meltdown mode, firing judges Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, along with host Steve Jones. Cowell has said that the second season will feature two judges, preferably a male and a female.

ABC Keeping 'General Hospital,' Canceling 'Revolution,' Expanding 'GMA'

ABC Keeping 'General Hospital,' Canceling 'Revolution,' Expanding 'GMA'

Soap fans have some good news -- and a measure of revenge.

ABC is keeping "General Hospital" on the air and eliminating "The Revolution," one of two replacements for two canceled soaps, ABC confirmed. The network will also expand "Good Morning America" to afternoons for nine weeks in the summer to replace "The Revolution."

The tentatively titled "GMA in the Afternoon" will fill the former "Revolution" time slot until it is taken over full time by Katie Couric's new daytime talk show, "Katie," in the fall. "The Revolution" will end Friday, July 6, and the afternoon "GMA" will begin airing Monday, July 9.

The announcement comes as "GMA" is narrowing its ratings gap with NBC's top-rated "Today."

Soap fans have feared for "General Hospital," ABC's sole remaining daytime soap, since the cancellation of the long-running "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" last year. "General Hospital" has been competing for increasingly tight daytime real estate with "The Revolution" and another new lifestyle show, "The Chew."

Almost exactly one year ago, ABC's then-president of daytime, Brian Frons, infuriated soap fans with the announcement that "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" would be canceled and replaced with "The Revolution" and "The Chew."

Frons left in January, and his daytime responsibilities were taken over by Vicki Dummer. The afternoon reshuffling is one of her first major moves since taking on the new duties.

'Torchwood' star Eve Myles: 'I want Sherlock role'

'Torchwood' star Eve Myles: 'I want Sherlock role'

Torchwood star Eve Myles has said that she would love to appear in Sherlock.

The actress named the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring adaptation as her dream project, describing it as "really hot".

Asked if there were any other shows she would like a role on, the Welsh performer told Radio Times: "I also love Upstairs Downstairs. I am proud it gets made in Cardiff."

However, Myles reaffirmed that she is still having a "wonderful" time playing Gwen Cooper in Torchwood.

"She is a full-on action hero and I get to do all that fun stuff because I do all my own stunts," she said. "I get to save the world and be the girl next door. The mix is wonderful."

Myles has called for Torchwood to get another series so that fans can receive "closure".

'The Simpsons' Bombshell: Matt Groening Reveals Springfield Origin

'The Simpsons' Bombshell: Matt Groening Reveals Springfield Origin

"The Simpsons" setting of Springfield has been the source of great mystery -- and the butt of several jokes -- throughout its decades-long run. Specifically, fans have been left wondering, "Where exactly is Springfield located, anyway?"

The show's writers have teased the topic many times, making almost-reveals in humorous, if frustrating ways. But now the crackerjack journalists at Smithsonian magazine have unearthed the truth, in an interview with "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening.

Under intense grilling -- OK, they basically just asked him -- Groening cracked and revealed where Homer, Marge and the brood spend their yellow-skinned days.

According to Groening, he named his animated series' location after Springfield, Ore., close to his own hometown of Portland.

"Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon," Groening at long last revealed. "The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show 'Father Knows Best' took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown. When I grew up, I realized it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, 'This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.' And they do."

There are, in fact, dozens of cities named Springfield throughout the United States, ranging from New York to California and many points between.

As to why he kept the fact close to his vest for so long, Groening told Smithsonian, "I don’t want to ruin it for people, you know? Whenever people say it’s Springfield, Ohio, or Springfield, Massachusetts, or Springfield, wherever, I always go, 'Yup, that’s right.'"

Groening declined to elaborate whether this means that Shelbyville is actually Eugene, Ore., or if Capital City is, in fact, a stand-in for Salem.

In reaction to the reveal, "Simpsons" patriarch Homer J. Simpson offered a number of observations on his official Twitter account, including, "Now that Bart knows we live in the Beaver State, all he says is dam dam dam!" and "Crap, we live in Oregon? I mean, Go Ducks!" (For non-Oregonians, that last comment is a reference to the University of Oregon's sports program.)

In the meantime, EW.com reports that this Sunday's chalkboard sequence on "The Simpsons" will have its own fun with Groening's revelation.

Cowell, ITV move 'Got Talent' to avoid 'Voice' UK Battle Rounds clash

Cowell, ITV move 'Got Talent' to avoid 'Voice' UK Battle Rounds clash

Simon Cowell and ITV have shifted Britain's Got Talent's start time to avoid another clash in the Saturday night schedules with BBC One's The Voice UK.

For the first time, viewers will be able to watch both shows live on Saturday, April 21.

Got Talent has been pushed back half an hour from its original slated start time to 8.30pm, meaning fans can watch both shows in full without requiring catch-up services or Sky+.

Cowell originally threw down the gauntlet to The Voice UK, claiming that the BBC needed to get a "sense of humour" and that he would "back my talent against their talent".

However, The Voice UK has climbed in the ratings every week so far and toppled Cowell's show in the overnights last weekend (excluding +1 viewers). Crucially, it has also always beaten Got Talent in the 20-minute overlap that the two shows have had in their first four auditions episodes.

On Sunday night, Cowell tweeted the BBC and BBC One controller Danny Cohen to wish them congratulations for triumphing in the ratings war.

The Voice UK will have two episodes across the weekend of April 21-22. The first 90-minute Battle Round show airs on the Saturday, while a second episode, featuring the show's celebrity coaches whittling down their teams of ten to a final five, follows on the Sunday evening.

The Britain's Got Talent auditions show will continue with an extended episode on April 21, airing for 75 minutes between 8.30pm and 9.45pm.

The Voice UK and Britain's Got Talent will clash in the schedules again this weekend (Saturday, April 14). The Voice UK kicks off with another 80-minute episode at 7pm on BBC One, while BGT launches at 8pm on ITV1.

Frankie Cocozza to host 'Super Sweet 16' show on MTV

Frankie Cocozza to host 'Super Sweet 16' show on MTV

Frankie Cocozza will host a one-off special of MTV series Super Sweet 16, it has been revealed.

Cocozza will front Super Sweet 16 UK vs US, which has been billed as "the ultimate transatlantic party clash". The Brighton singer-turned-TV host is described as the ultimate "party pimp" by the broadcaster.

The episode will pit the "UK's most privileged princesses against the demanding divas from the US" and will feature the show's usual mixture of high-drama, tears, out-of-control teenagers and parents with no limits on their credit cards.

Cocozza previously spoke about his interest in becoming a TV presenter when he entered Celebrity Big Brother, claiming that he aspired to be the "next George Lamb".

He is also among the rumoured candidates to star in the second series of Channel 5's The Bachelor.

Frankie Cocozza's Super Sweet 16 UK vs US airs on Sunday, April 22 at 12pm on MTV.

'Got Talent' hammering 'The Voice' UK in YouTube numbers battle

'Got Talent' hammering 'The Voice' UK in YouTube numbers battle

Simon Cowell's Britain's Got Talent is comprehensively winning the YouTube battle with The Voice UK.

Several Got Talent acts have had over 1 million views of their auditions on YouTube, while opera duo Charlotte and Jonathan have reached over 10 million worldwide.

Cowell conceded a ratings defeat to Danny Cohen and the BBC last weekend when his own ITV1 series slipped into second spot in the Saturday night ratings war.

However, none of the acts on The Voice UK appear to have captured the imagination of the public like characters on BGT such as Mr Zip (1.5m YouTube views) and Ryan O'Shaughnessy (1.4m YouTube views).

The most-watched Voice act remains teenager Jessica Hammond, who has clocked up 559k in views. Vince Kidd has reached 401k, while one of last weekend's standout acts Bo Bruce has reached only 84k.

The Voice UK continues this Saturday at 7pm on BBC One. Britain's Got Talent airs on Saturday at 8pm on ITV1.

Tricia Helfer 'Criminal Minds' character 'kills for fun'

Tricia Helfer 'Criminal Minds' character 'kills for fun'

Criminal Minds exec Erica Messer has said that Tricia Helfer will play "a serial killer masquerading as a bank robber" in the season finale.

The Battlestar Galactica actress announced last month that she has been cast as "a bad character" in the CBS show's May 16 episode.

Speaking about Helfer's guest appearance, Messer revealed that the Criminal Minds team are forced to step in when her murderous character Izzy Rogers takes hostages during a stick-up.

"Ultimately, she is a serial killer masquerading as a bank robber," the showrunner told TV Guide.

"Our team comes in because the behaviour suggests they do this every month - they kill somebody for the fun of it, not because they're in the way. The woman's off her rocker. She's just a bad egg."

The episode will also see Paget Brewster leave the role of Emily Prentiss for the second time.

Alexander Armstrong: 'I turned down Countdown because of Jay Hunt'

Alexander Armstrong: 'I turned down Countdown because of Jay Hunt'

Alexander Armstrong has revealed that he felt pressured into turning down the Countdown hosting role by ex-BBC controller Jay Hunt.

The Pointless presenter was considering joining the Channel 4 gameshow in 2008 as a replacement for Des O'Connor, but changed his mind after the executive's angry reaction to the move.

"She hit the roof when she heard that it was in the offing," The Mirror quotes him as saying. "You have to be very careful about those sorts of things. You think you're a free agent but you're not.

"I knew she was somebody who held power over a lot of key decisions on things I held dear and that if I did it, it would really p*ss her off. The ball was in my court, but I could sense that it mightn't be the best idea in the world."

Armstrong added that he was planning to start a quieter life with his family by taking the lucrative Countdown job.

"It had appealed to me because I didn't have any other work lined up," he said. "And, at that point in my life, it was a footballer's salary - well, almost. A second division footballer. I was in my 30s and started thinking we could move out of London and settle down."

Jeff Stelling was named as Countdown presenter in time for its 2009 relaunch, which also saw Rachel Riley replace Carol Vorderman.

Nick Hewer of The Apprentice took over from Stelling at the beginning of this year.

'Walking Dead' Creator Robert Kirkman Adapting 'Thief of Thieves' for New AMC TV Series

'Walking Dead' Creator Robert Kirkman Adapting 'Thief of Thieves' for New AMC TV Series

AMC may soon have a double dose of Robert Kirkman: the "Walking Dead" comics creator and TV series executive producer is developing his latest comic book, "Thief of Thieves," as a new drama for the network.

"Thief" revolves around Conrad Paulson, who wants to get out of the stealing biz so he can reunite with his estranged wife and son, but in the meantime vows to only steal from other thieves. The comic debuted on Feb. 8 and sold out that same day; the third issue of "Thief" was released today.

AMC announced Kirkman and "Walking Dead" producers David Alpert and Chic Eglee will adapt the Image Comics/Skybound comic. Eglee, a former executive producer for Showtime's "Dexter," will serve as the "Thief of Thieves" showrunner if the project goes to series.

Alpert and Eglee worked with Kirkman on the first season of "The Walking Dead." Alpert was an executive producer on the recently-concluded second season of the show, while Eglee is an executive producer on FX's upcoming drama "Powers," based on the Image comic book series about homicide detectives who investigate cases involving superheroes and supervillains.

"Much like 'The Walking Dead' brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel 'Thief of Thieves' can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals," Kirkman said in a statement.

"AMC recognizes the limitless ideas generated by the comic industry. Their dedication to bringing 'The Walking Dead' to life as a TV show has been key to its success and I'm excited about the potential of 'Thief of Thieves' to reach similar levels of success."

Alpert added, "It's incredibly exciting to put the band back together with Robert, Chic and AMC; it just feels great."

Kirkman, who launched the Skybound imprint at Image Comics, held four of the top spots on the New York Times bestseller list for graphic novels in 2011.

"Working with AMC has been a tremendously positive experience and I'm looking forward to continuing and strengthening our relationships there," Kirkman added. "And I can't neglect to mention I've been dying to work with Chic again since we wrapped on 'The Walking Dead' season one."

Average Monthly Pay-TV Bill Expected to Hit $200 in 2020

Average Monthly Pay-TV Bill Expected to Hit $200 in 2020

TV lovers may need to take out a loan when the cable bill arrives -- in 2020.

By that time, the average monthly cost for pay-TV service in the United States is expected to balloon to $200, according to a new forecast by the research firm The NPD Group.

Household incomes in the country have stagnated in recent years, but cable, satellite and telco bills have not. The monthly rates for pay-TV have jumped an average of 6 percent per year, the firm finds.

"The increase sounds slight, but it's really not," Russ Crupnick, an entertainment industry analyst at The NPD Group, told TheWrap." Consumers are going to have decide when they get that bill for $100 or $200 if cable can be one of their most valuable entertainment expenses going forward."

If rates continue to climb at that pace, The NPD Group predicts that the average monthly pay-TV bill will reach $123 by 2015, up from $86 last year.

Beyond a thirst for profits, the culprit, The NPD Group says, is the rising costs that entertainment companies charge cable services to broadcast their channels.

"As traditional streams of revenues like DVDs shrink, content creators are going to look for other areas to make up the difference," Crupnick said. "It's going to cost more to license content across all of the entertainment categories."

Given the escalating cost of cable and other pay-TV services on top of a still sluggish economy, is it any wonder that more and more people are cutting the cord and fleeing to digital services like Netflix and Hulu.

A recent report from the Convergence Consulting Group found that 2.65 million Americans canceled TV subscriptions between 2008-2011 in favor of lower-cost internet subscription services or video platforms.

The one saving grace for cable, satellite and telco companies is that Convergence also postulated that the subscription exodus will slow as companies like Netflix grapple with rising licensing fees for the kind of top-shelf movies and shows that are luring consumers away from pricey pay-TV subscriptions.

The NPD Group said its finding are based on quarterly electronic surveys of 1,000  U.S. households, as well as finding from its "Entertainment Trends in America" report, which surveys 10,000 consumers semi-annually.

Simon Cowell to be 'voice of God' via Skype for 'X Factor'?

Simon Cowell to be 'voice of God' via Skype for 'X Factor'?

Simon Cowell may reportedly feature in the next series of The X Factor.

The talent show judge will unlikely appear regularly in the UK edition of the show, due to contractual and scheduling conflicts with the US version.

Cowell may however appear as a "voice of God" via Skype when the other judges are unable to reach an unanimous decision, reports The Sun.

The move is said to be a way of bringing in further viewers following BBC One's recent ratings win for The Voice UK over ITV1's Britain's Got Talent.

An insider said: "This is serious now for Simon. BGT losing out to The Voice is one thing, but he's terrified this is going to have negative repercussions for The X Factor.

"All options are being considered and having him as the Voice of God is one of them. He quite likes the idea."

The source added: "X Factor is Simon's baby and he'll do whatever he can to make it a success. He won't let something like the Atlantic get in the way of things."

Meanwhile, an X Factor spokeswoman said: "Simon is closely involved with the show and its direction. Ideas for the new series are still being discussed."

Simon Cowell is rumoured to be considering dropping his 'nasty image' altogether in order to compete with The Voice UK.

David Tennant will star in the new BBC America mini-series "The Spies of Warsaw," the network said Wednesday.

The miniseries, based on the Alan Furst novel of the same name, is set in Poland, Paris, London and Berlin, in the years leading up to World War II. Former "Doctor Who" star Tennant will play Col. Jean-Francois Mercier, a decorated hero of the 1914 war who's "drawn into a world of abduction, betrayal and intrigue in the diplomatic salons and back alleys of Warsaw" while serving as a military attache at the French embassy, according to BBC America.

His love interest, played by "Black Swan" actress Janet Montgomery, is a Parisian lawyer for the League of Nations. The two enjoy an intensifying love affair as German tanks drive through the Black Forest.

The cast also includes Burn Gorman of "The Dark Knight Rises," Anton Lesser of "The Hour" and Dan Fredenburgh ("The Bourne Ultimatum"), among many others.

Russell Howard: 'TV channel Dave is biggest threat to comedy'

Russell Howard: 'TV channel Dave is biggest threat to comedy'

Russell Howard has slammed UKTV comedy channel Dave.

The 32-year-old stand-up believes that the digital channel's output is monotonous.

When asked by The Guardian what he thought the greatest threat to comedy is, Howard replied: "The TV channel Dave.

"Everything is repeated there; they just play the same shows over and over."

Dave regularly repeats his popular BBC Three show Good News and BBC Two's Mock the Week, on which he has appeared as a panellist since 2006.

Howard also said that his one TV regret is presenting backstage at the Brit Awards for ITV2 in 2007, confessing that he did not enjoy interviewing popstar Lily Allen.

"I didn't really want to be there," he admitted. "I just don't care what people like Lily Allen think about stuff. But I know that some people do care, so I couldn't just slouch through it."

Russell Howard's Good News, now in its sixth series, returns for an extended 12-episode run this Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three.

Marvel Television Signs With CAA

Marvel Television has signed with the Creative Artists Agency, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

The deal covers Marvel's live-action titles. Live-action projects in development for Marvel include "The Hulk," "AKA Jessica Jones" and "The Punisher," which are being developed with ABC Studios.

Marvel Television, formed in 2010, was previously unrepresented. The deal does not affect Marvel's partnership with ABC Studios, which will continue as it currently stands.

CAA's partnership with Marvel Television will also help Marvel mine its deep library of characters, which numbers around 9,000.
