Reese Witherspoon to Executive-Produce 'Great Expectations' Revamp for the CW

Reese Witherspoon is about to have a Dickens of a time with the CW.

The "Walk the Line" actress is executive-producing a revamp of the Charles Dickens classic "Great Expectations" for the network, which has purchased a script order for the project, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The project, dubbed "Expectations," will focus on a small-town girl with big dreams of making it in the city who is quickly disillusioned by the harsh reality of living in San Francisco until her fortunes unexpectedly turn thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

J. Mills Goodloe, who penned the 2002 Gary Sinise film "A Gentleman's Game" and co-wrote the 2007 Terrence Howard drama "Pride," will write the script.

Witherspoon will executive-produce with Bruna Papandrea, Meghan Lyvers and Evelyn O'Neill. "Expectations" will be produced by CBS TV Studio, Television 360 and Pacific Standard.

The CW appears to be developing a taste for bringing new twists to literary classics. The network is also developing a modern-day retelling of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," with "Charlie's Angels" director McG executive-producing.

Louis Walsh, Tulisa, Nicole label 'X Factor' Chris Maloney 'a diva'

X Factor hopeful Christopher Maloney has been branded a "diva" by rival judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Nicole Scherzinger on the reality show.

The trio spread gossip about the Liverpool singer on The Xtra Factor, claiming that they had all heard reports about him misbehaving behind-the-scenes.

Maloney was the public's wildcard act on Saturday (October 6) and wasn't given a chance to respond to the allegations on the ITV2 spinoff show.

Walsh started the accusations, when he was asked who the biggest troublemaker was and if Rylan Clark was a diva.

"No, Rylan is not a diva at all backstage," said Walsh.

"I think Chris from Liverpool is a bit of a diva. That's what I'm hearing."

Both Contostavlos and Scherzinger backed Walsh up, claiming that they had heard the same rumour.

An annoyed Gary Barlow, who mentors Maloney, reminded his co-stars of the trouble they got in last year when they brought up backstage gossip to undermine Misha B. On that occasion, Contostavlos and Walsh described Misha as "a bully".

"Guys, we got into backstage gossip last year and it got us into a lot of trouble," said Barlow. "So let's not go there again."

Xtra Factor host Caroline Flack discussed the judges' comments on This Morning today, adding: "I get to know the contestants quite well, that's part of my job to become friends with everybody because we like to see a different side to them on The Xtra Factor, and I've never seen that side to him - he's always very, very pleasant to us so that is complete news to me, but I don't see them just before they are about to go on stage.

"Gary hates all the backstage gossip and it takes it back to last year with Misha B and the whole thing with her supposedly not being nice to the other contestants and it does change people's opinions... so sometimes it's not fair to bring out what goes on backstage, but sometimes people do wanna know."

'TOWIE' Maria Fowler gloats over Carolynne Poole 'X Factor' exit

The Only Way Is Essex star Maria Fowler has reignited her rivalry with X Factor singer Carolynne Poole on Twitter, gloating over her exit from the ITV1 talent show.

Carolynne was involved in a shock elimination on the reality series last night, losing out to Rylan Clark in the sing-off after Louis Walsh had a last minute change of heart in the judges vote.

The duo previously had a war of words on Twitter after Carolynne defended her co-star Kye Sones against criticism from Fowler.

The TOWIE star took the opportunity to mock Poole last night after she was axed, writing: "Sorry, but like I said. Be nice to people on the way up cause you'll see them on the way down... KARMA!!!!!! Byeeee byeeee!!!!!! Hahahahahhah."

Fowler, fellow ex-TOWIE star Harry Derbidge and Katie Price were among the celebrities who campaigned on Twitter for Essex local Rylan Clark, but the singer still ended up in the bottom two yesterday.

However, Fowler insisted that the judges decision to send the vote to deadlock was correct, arguing that it meant the public made the final call.

"It would have been unfair if the judges kept him in," she said.

Comedy Central Gives Web Series 'Broad City' a Pilot Order

The Abbi Jacobson/Ilana Glazer web series has been given a pilot order by the cable network, Comedy Central head of original programming and production Kent Alterman said Monday.

Jacobson and Glazer will executive-produce, along with their fellow Upright Citizens Brigade vet Amy Poehler. Dave Becky and Sam Saifer will also executive-produce, with Tony Hernandez serving as co-executive producer.

According to Alterman, the series was given a pilot order based on Poehler's recommendation.

"Amy Poehler told me this would be a great show for us, and that's good enough for me," Alterman said.

"Broad City" revolves around two girls (Jacobson and Glazer) as they navigate their daily lives in New York City and find themselves in mundane situations that are nonetheless "hysterical and disturbing to watch all at the same time," according to Comedy Central.

The series launched on the web in late 2009.

'60 Minutes' Senior Producer Upped to Exec Producer of New CBS News Unit

Michael Radutzky, the senior producer of CBS's "60 Minutes," has been tapped to lead the new Creative Development unit of CBS News, the network said Monday. The new unit will be "dedicated to finding innovative ways to create and distribute CBS News content," CBS said.

Radutzky, who has been the senior producer of "60 Minutes" since November 2006, will retain his current duties as well as serve as executive producer of the new unit.

“Michael is an extraordinary reporter and producer.  So many of his stories during his years at '60 Minutes' stand out as some of our very best,” CBS News chairman and "60 Minutes" executive producer Jeff Fager said of the decision.  “In his new position, the rest of CBS News will benefit from his talents and abilities.”

Radutzky, who has been producing segments for "60 Minutes" since 1995, has won multiple Emmys for his work on the long-running news magazine. His highlight reel includes the only television interview with Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, as well as investigations on the allegations of biker Lance Armstrong's use of performance-enhancing drugs and the Duke lacrosse team rape case.

Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman Separating After 30 Years

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are separating after 30 years of marriage, their publicist told TheWrap.

DeVito, star of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and Perlman, star of "Cheers," have three adult children together. They appeared together in the classic sitcom "Taxi," and their company, Jersey Films, has produced films including "Man on the Moon" (about their "Taxi" castmate, Andy Kaufman), "Pulp Fiction," and "Erin Brockovich," among many others.

The separation was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight." No statement will be released, said their publicist, Stan Rosenfield.

Besides appearing on "Always Sunny," DeVito recently did voice work for the Dr. Seuss adaptation "The Lorax."

Perlman has recently appeared on HBO's "Hung" and on "Wilfred" on FX, the same network that airs "Always Sunny."

FX president John Landgraf is the former president of DeVito and Perlman's Jersey Films, and drew DeVito to "Always Sunny."

'X Factor' is a set-up, says Frankie Cocozza

Reality TV star Frankie Cocozza has hit out at The X Factor, describing the ITV1 talent show as a "set-up".

Cocozza starred on the singing contest last year, but was kicked off the programme after breaking a "golden rule".

After Louis Walsh controversially chose to save Rylan Clark on last night's results show, Cocozza joined in criticism of the TV series and appeared to imply that it was fixed.

"I'm pretty sure the X Factor just showed the whole country how set up it is," wrote Cocozza.

"Not that we didn't know that anyway. The producers f**ked it."

He added: "Oh and I forgot my s**t performances proved the same thing last year. Good night."

Fans have complained angrily about last night's X Factor result, which saw Carolynne Poole leaving the Live Shows in week one.

Pictures of producer Richard Holloway talking to Walsh during Carolynne's sing-off performance particularly annoyed viewers and some have suggested that he may have been pushing Walsh to save Rylan.

Other viewers were just unhappy that the exec may have distracted Walsh from listening to Carolynne's save-me song.

'Opposite Worlds': Past vs. Future Reality Show Coming to SyFy

SyFy has announced the new reality series "Opposite Worlds," which features contestants competing in a simulated past and future.

As imagined by the show, the past is a place of constant struggle, and the future a world of total convenience. The show is a hit on Chilean television, and SyFy acquired the exclusive U.S. format rights from Canal 13 and distributor Banijay International.

It will air 12 episodes over six weeks, with two episodes airing per week. Craig Plestis ("Minute to Win It") will executive produce.

"Opposite Worlds has become an absolute phenomenon," said Mark Stern, president of original content for Syfy. "This groundbreaking, edgy program is a remarkable television experiment transporting the audience and the contestants into starkly opposite worlds, simultaneously."

The show joins SyFy's other high-concept game show, "Total Blackout," in which contestants complete challenges in the dark.

Bear Grylls Reality Show 'Get Out Alive' Gets NBC Greenlight

NBC has given the greenlight to the Bear Grylls reality competition “Get Out Alive,” in which teams of two will compete to succeed in the wild.

Neither element is new -- CBS's "Survivor," which helped spawn the reality competition genre, has pitted teams against one another in harsh conditions for more than a decade. And shows including "The Amazing Race" have teams compete in pairs instead of in big groups, as they do on "Survivor."

But the new show has Grylls, the star of Discovery's intense "Man vs. Wild." In that show, Grylls is dropped into the most remote corners of the earth, where he must go to such extremes as drinking his own urine to stay alive. (Or rather, to avoid the humiliation of being pulled out by his crew.) This time, the contestants will be the ones struggling.

Discovery and the British-born Grylls parted ways in March in a contract dispute. The new series comes from Ben Silverman's multimedia studio, Electus. CEO Chris Grant will executive produce.

"To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature," said Paul Telegdy, NBC's president of alternative and late night programming. "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits."

"'Get Out Alive' will be raw, tough and unrelenting, but it will also inspire and teach the essentials that one day may just save your life," said Grylls. "The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward... but first there must be some pain."

Grylls’ grew up on the U.K.'s Isle of Wight, where his late father taught him to climb and sail. He was trained from a young age in martial arts, then spent three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces. He then survived a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa to become one of the youngest climbers ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

Fox Picks Up 'Ben and Kate,' 'Mindy Project' for Full Seasons

The new comedies "Ben and Kate" and "The Mindy Project" have been picked up for full seasons, the network said Monday.

Fox chairman of entertainment Kevin Reilly hailed the new comedies as "everything we want to stand for in comedy" while announcing the pickups.

“'Ben and Kate' and 'The Mindy Project' have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real -- which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” said Reilly.

The series, which are part of Fox's revamped Tuesday night comedy block, premiered two weeks ago to so-so numbers, with "The Mindy Project" scoring a 2.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic and taking 4.7 million total viewers, while "Ben and Kate" received a 2.0/6 in the demo and drew 4.2 million total viewers.

"The Mindy Project" stars "The Office" vet Mindy Kaling in a medical setting, while "Ben and Kate" stars Nat Faxon as a man who moves in with his Type A sister in order to help take care of his sibling's daughter.

"Ben and Kate" airs Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m., while "The Mindy Project" airs at 9:30.

'X Factor USA' Judges' Houses guests

The first pictures of The X Factor USA's guest mentors at Judges' Houses have been unveiled.

Justin Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun will partner LA Reid, with Marc Anthony joining Simon Cowell and Nick Jonas teaming up with Demi Lovato. Pictures of all three judging teams on location have been released by Fox.

Additionally, Britney Spears is to be joined by will.i.am for Judges' Houses, and the Black Eyed Peas musician praised the quality of talent among the show's final 24 contestants.

"When Britney asked me to come help mentor talent in the Judges' Homes round, it was an easy yes," the Voice UK coach said. "Some of the talent I've seen so far has blown me away - they're out-of-this-world good."

Jonas said: "I'm lucky to have some incredible mentors in my life and I've always valued their opinions greatly. Being able to provide guidance for another artist, while working with the incredibly talented X Factor team, was an amazing experience.

"There's some extraordinary talent out there, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of their journey."

Anthony said that he feels "really excited" by acting as a mentor to X Factor contestants, adding that he is "looking forward to seeing them advance in the show's new season".

The X Factor USA's Top 24 contestants will be revealed tomorrow (Wednesday, October 10) at 8/7c on Fox.

'Jersey Shore's JWoww: 'I want 500 people at my Vegas wedding'

Jenni "JWoww" Farley has revealed that she plans to fly 500 people to Las Vegas for her wedding.

The Jersey Shore star recently got engaged to boyfriend Roger Matthews, and though she hasn't started properly planning her nuptials yet, she said that knows she wants to tie the knot within the "craziness" of the city.

"I do know I want a wedding in Vegas, but I want, like, my whole wedding there, so I want 500 people to go to Vegas," Farley told MTV News.

"I want, like, the shows and the pools and all the craziness in Vegas incorporated, and that's as far as I got. So I don't know where, I don't know when, I just know I want to fly 500 people to Vegas."

Matthews proposed to Farley during a skydiving lesson, and the reality TV star admitted she was "hysterically crying" during the "funny" proposal because she was so afraid.

"He said he tucked [the ring] 'down there'," she recalled. "He made us actually wear those [skydiving] suits and I was like, 'Why are we wearing these like weirdo suits?' Like, the parachuting suits - so he could hide it, because you actually can go in normal clothes - but he was like, 'No, no, I want you to wear the suit'.

"It was funny though, because he thought he only had a couple seconds before I was to land - so he had to rip off his suit and go digging for the ring box... I actually took a couple more minutes than he thought, so he was just on [bended] knee for a while. I was hysterically crying. I hate heights."

'Made in Chelsea' producers for new 'Made in Manchester' reality show?

A new reality show based in Manchester is said to be in the works.

Made in Chelsea production company Monkey Kingdom is rumoured to be in pre-production of a Northern-based constructed reality series.

Waterloo Road's Chelsee Healey (Janeece Bryant) and Manchester designer Nadine Merabi are tipped to star in the show, with WAGs and soap stars such as Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) being lined up to make cameo appearances.

"The programme will be classy, like a Mancunian version of Sex and the City," a source told The Mirror.

"They want to show Manchester at its best, with only the most glamorous bars, restaurants and nightclubs featured.

"Lots of auditions have already taken place but they aren't satisfied yet and spots are still up for grabs.

"They only want gorgeous, well-connected people with great stories to tell. Anyone boring won't make the cut."

The new series will follow in the footsteps of other constructed reality shows such as The Only Way Is Essex, Geordie Shore and Desperate Scousewives.

Paul Hollywood to star in 'Great British Bake-Off' spinoff

Paul Hollywood is set to star in his own solo series following the success of The Great British Bake-Off.

Hollywood discussed future projects at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, including a Christmas special for the popular BBC Two show.

According to the Radio Times, Hollywood has just finished filming the Christmas-themed edition of The Great British Bake-Off with co-host Mary Berry, and is now set to concentrate on his own show, which has the working title Bread.

Hollywood said of the new programme: "It's about bread but I'm also cooking with bread and doing a few cakes - most of the cakes before the 1820s were made with yeast and it wasn't until the introduction of raising agents that you got the light, fluffy cake that we prize today. I've been all over the country looking into the history of bread."

He also discussed his life-long passion for bread-making, explaining: "I ended up concentrating on bread [in my career] because it was one of the hardest things to master. You're harnessing an animal - yeast.

"When you're manipulating and kneading the dough, it's such a release of stress. I'm paying for it now because I've got big problems with my neck and carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists."

The Great British Bake-Off has proved a huge ratings success for the BBC, with the exit of Cathryn Dresser last week being watched by a record 4.8m people.

It has even led to Hollywood being ascribed sex symbol status, something he claims to find "embarrassing".

'X Factor' producer denies instructing Louis Walsh on Carolynne Poole exit

X Factor producer Richard Holloway has hit back at suggestions that he interfered in Carolynne Poole's exit on Sunday night's results show.

The first live performances were mired in controversy after Poole and Rylan Clark were left in the bottom two this weekend.

With Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos voting to save Poole and Nicole Scherzinger voting to save her act Clark, the final decision was left to Louis Walsh.

However, after Walsh initially said that he wanted to keep Poole in the competition, he changed his mind and took the vote to deadlock - which resulted in Poole leaving the competition.

Since Sunday, viewers and audience members have questioned why producer Holloway was seen speaking to Walsh prior to the controversial decision.

One attendee claimed he overheard Walsh telling Contostavlos he had been instructed to go to deadlock.

However, Holloway told The Sun that he was not involved in any fixing on the show.

"We never tell the judges what to do," he said, adding that the conversation was simply to let Walsh know he would be voting last. Holloway also said it would be "impossible" for anyone to overhear the conversation over the music on set.

Holloway additionally told The Mirror: "We regularly chat to the judges during the show, they don't wear earpieces like Dermot [O'Leary], so we have to speak to them on anything from timings to running order changes.

"On Sunday I was telling Louis the order the judges would vote in. We don't tell judges how to vote."
