Channel Changing: Versus Becomes NBC Sports Network

Channel Changing: Versus Becomes NBC Sports Network

The new year brings a new identity for Versus, the cable sports network best known for hunting and fishing shows, the Tour de France and the National Hockey League. Now a part of the NBC Universal empire (following the merger with Comcast, which owned Versus), the channel — currently available in more than 75 million households — becomes the NBC Sports Network at 4 p.m. ET on Monday, January 2 and will undergo an extreme makeover throughout the year. "It's going to be radically different over time," says Jon Miller, the president of programming, who is building what he calls "a full-service sports network," that will include live events, news and talk shows and original programming.

Versus, which was once known as the Outdoor Life Network, has slowly transitioned into a player in the TV sports world. But some unusual programming choices — like The T. Ocho Show, a train wreck of a talk show featuring flamboyant NFL stars Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco — undermined the network's credibility. "When we took over Versus, there was a lot of programming on the network that we didn't think was consistent with what NBC Sports was about," Miller says. "And so the first thing we did was we jettisoned some properties like Wacked Out Sports and T. Ocho and Sports Soup."

But overhauling the network hasn't only been about getting rid of junk. "Right off the bat we made a long term deal to extend the NHL for 10 years, we acquired broadcast and cable rights for Major League Soccer and then we started to created some of our original programming," Miller says. (As for the hunting and fishing shows, "they will continue to have a role in this new channel going forward," Miller promises, "but they probably won't have a dominant as role as they've had in the past.")

The NHL continues to be a major part of the schedule with games and studio shows several nights a week, as well as the All-Star Game on Jan. 29 and the Stanley Cup playoffs in the spring (along with NBC). Also staying on board are Mountain West Conference basketball games and the Tour de France.

As for new acquisitions, soccer will become a prominent part of the line-up, starting with the championship game of the women's Olympic qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF region (including North and Central America) on Jan. 29. Other U.S. men's and women's national team games are planned, and the first of the network's roughly 40 MLS contests will be televised on March 11 (additional games will air on NBC). "It has all the markings of a sport that is on the rise," Miller says of MLS. "If you look at the attendance figures and the way it's growing, we think it was perfect for us. We made an aggressive bid for it. It's a good property that's sending a message to everybody that they're here and they're here to stay."

This summer's London Olympics also provide the channel with a bounty of programming, including U.S. team trials and pre-Olympic competition in sports like swimming, diving, gymnastics, water polo, field hockey, track and field and volleyball. During the Games the network will cover a variety of events, including cycling, basketball and soccer.

Original programming initiatives began last fall with NBC Sports Talk (weeknights at 6/5c). As the name implies, the emphasis is more on talk — and opinion. "There's a lot places where you can get highlights, but here we tell you what to make of the news," Miller says. Another show that premiered in the fall is CNBC Sports Biz (Fridays at 7/6c), hosted by CNBC's manic, Twitter-obsessed reporter Darren Rovell, who focuses on dollars and cents rather than X's and O's. And in perhaps the network's biggest statement, Bob Costas will host a monthly interview show, Costas Tonight, premiering in the spring, and quarterly town hall specials, beginning with Costas Tonight: Live From the Super Bowl, on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Debra Messing, Will Chase & Other TV Stars Who Dated Their Co-Stars

Debra Messing, Will Chase & Other TV Stars Who Dated Their Co-Stars

Debra Messing may be hooking up with her "Smash" co-star Will Chase, but she's hardly the only TV star to find love on set. Back in 2003, sparks flew for co-stars Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody on the set of "The OC," and who could ever forget Joanie (Erin Moran) and Chachi's (Scott Baio) real-life romance that was worthy of a spin-off?

Plus, only in the world of TV is it ever acceptable to fall in love with your small-screen brother. Just ask Katherine Heigl, who dated her "Roswell" on-screen sibling Jason Behr in 2000. Meanwhile, Lauren Graham and her current boyfriend Peter Krause, who plays her TV brother Adam Braverman on "Parenthood," have been spotted vacationing in Venice together.

Katy Perry, Russell Brand Divorce

Katy Perry, Russell Brand Divorce

Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry on Friday on Dec. 30, just weeks after telling Ellen DeGeneres that he and his popstar wife were in it "until death do us part" on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Dec. 2.

Brand called the Internet "a wicked little liar," adding that “being famous is like a little bit of you is taken away, and goes off, and lives on its own and does what it wants."

But just 28 days later, Brand told AP, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends," and offered no other details.

Brand and Perry were married in October 2010 at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India. Over the course of their relationship, the couple has made numerous TV appearances, declaring their love for audiences across the world to see. From Brand talking about his proposal with the ladies of "The View" to Perry talking about marriage across the pond on "The Graham Norton Show," this celebrity couple was never very shy about their love for one another.

'Extreme Clutter' Season 2 Premiere: Mackenzie Phillips Lets Go Of Her Past With Peter Walsh

'Extreme Clutter' Season 2 Premiere: Mackenzie Phillips Lets Go Of Her Past With Peter Walsh

Former "One Day at a Time" star Mackenzie Phillips has had a difficult few years, between a stint on Vh1's "Celebrity Rehab" and being in the media spotlight over an alleged sexual relationship with her famous father. But she’s intent on moving forward.

In her latest effort, Phillips is getting somewhat of a makeover thanks to OWN's "Extreme Clutter." On Part 2 of the show's Season 2 premiere, which airs Jan. 2, organization expert Peter Walsh visits the actress to help her gain control of her home. It's crowded with material representations of painful memories that stem from years of substance abuse and emotional family upheaval.

"I think it's the last vestige of the junkie I used to be," Phillips says of her cluttered home in this exclusive video interview. "But why am I hanging onto the past?"

Phillips's home doesn’t appear particularly overloaded with objects. "It's not like 'Hoarders,'" she explains, noting that her problem is "hidden clutter." In sorting through her things, Phillips picks up a doll from her father, John of The Mamas and The Papas, and boots from her actress/model sister, Bijou.

Walsh notes that the actress's house is "filled with disturbing reminders of her days as a drug addict." Throughout the series, Walsh helps people whose lives have been dramatically affected by overwhelming clutter. He guides families through the emotional journey of overcoming their attachment to material items by pinpointing the root of their problems and guiding them towards a clutter-free life.

And seemingly, it works with Phillips. "You let go of the things that have negative power and keep the things that fit into your future," she says about what she's learned at the end of the interview.

"Extreme Clutter" will have a two-night premiere beginning Sun., Jan. 1 at 11 p.m. EST on OWN and then Mon., Jan. 2 in its regular time slot at 10 p.m. EST with Mackenzie Phillips's episode.

Michael Jordan Gets Engaged

Michael Jordan Gets Engaged

Michael Jordan is engaged to marry his girlfriend, Cuban-American model Yvette Prieto, The Associated Press reports.

The NBA legend, 48, popped the question over Christmas weekend. The couple has been together for three years.

This will be Jordan's second marriage — he was married to Juanita Vanoy for 16 years. They have three children together: two sons, Jeffrey Michael and Marcus James, and a daughter, Jasmine.

Following his 19-year career in basketball — during which he helped the Chicago Bulls win six championships and was named most valuable player five times — Jordan is now majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Selena Gomez Helped Pay The Rent With First 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' Paycheck

Selena Gomez Helped Pay The Rent With First 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' Paycheck

Just because she's dating the world's most sought-after teen heartthrob, is finishing a five year run on a hit Disney Channel show and has a successful music career, don't think for a second that Selena Gomez is a diva.

With "Wizards of Waverly Place" -- the show that made Gomez a household name -- set to air its final episode on Jan. 6th, the 19-year-old singer and actress opened up to "Access Hollywood" along with her cast mates David Henrie and Jake T. Austin, about how life has changed since starting the hit show.

We learned that money hasn't changed Selena and she clearly leaves the flashy spending to boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Despite commanding $100,000 per concert according to her 2010 tour rider, the star says she has yet to make any really big purchases. When asked what was the first thing she splurged on was, she told "Access Hollywood":

"Shoes .... I didn't really buy anything. I got my Ford Escape," she offered, but seemed unsure if that qualified as a big splurge. Selena was referring to the 2009 black Hybrid she received for her 16th birthday.

For one of the world's most famous teenagers, a $34,000 car seems pretty sensible, especially comparing it to say the $90,000 Range Rover reality star Kendall Jenner just received for her 16th birthday.

Even more surprising, Gomez admitted that her first paycheck from 'Wizards' went to helping out her family.

"I think [my first paycheck] went into living [in Los Angeles] because we had to move from Texas, so I think we just had to pay for it," she said.

Her castmate 17-year-old Jake T. Austin, who plays her younger brother, also said his first paycheck from Disney went to helping out with the rent and to "[helping] my family out a bit, it just goes into living and typical everyday expenses."

It's not surprising that Gomez hasn't gone crazy with her Disney cash -- she's actually known for being pretty low key and has been spotted on the red carpet wearing a $23 dress from teen clothier Forever 21 and has even been spotted stocking up on trendy items at the budget-friendly store.

'Hook, Line, And Sisters' Premiere: Anderson Family Boat Gets Hit Hard In Collision

'Hook, Line, And Sisters' Premiere: Anderson Family Boat Gets Hit Hard In Collision

TLC knows there's more reality entertainment to be mined out of both fishing and Alaska, so they combined the two in their latest reality entry "Hook, Line, and Sisters" (Thu., 10 p.m. EST on TLC). The show follows the Anderson family, who have been fishing the seas around Alaska for four generations.

The show centers on sisters are Sierra and Memry, but their parents are key figures as well. While Mom runs the finances for the operation, Dad still serves as the ship's captain. Someday, though, that responsibility might fall to Sierra. The Dec. 29 premiere focused on a four-day herring crusade that showcased just how cutthroat the fishing business can be.

Post-tsunami, Japanese demand dropped, meaning prices are lower and the competition is even more brutal. Since that makes for some dangerous navigating -- as boats are just as dangerous as motor vehicles on land, but far more difficult to stop or turn -- the Andersons suffered a brutal collision when another boat simply plowed into them rather than stopping.

'Boardwalk Empire' Star Aleksa Palladino On Angela Darmody's Death & Her New Band Exitmusic

'Boardwalk Empire' Star Aleksa Palladino On Angela Darmody's Death & Her New Band Exitmusic

On "Boardwalk Empire," Aleksa Palladino played Angela Darmody, the most modern woman in the Prohibition era drama. As Jimmy Darmody's (Michael Pitt) 1920s bohemian common-law wife, she sleeps with women and is pursuing a painting career.

"She's sort of a controversial one because she has ambitions that are still very unique for the time," Palladino told "Good Day NY" in September. "She's a painter and she's exploring her own sexuality ... with women and with men."

But sadly, late in "Boardwalk Empire's" second season, Angela met her fate as a casualty of her husband's mob dealings.

Palladino, who told Fast Company she was in mourning for three months after Angela's death, has taken it as an opportunity to focus on her music career. She is one half the band Exitmusic -- the other half is her husband Devon Church -- and she recently talked to Spinner about how her two artistic careers intersect.

"When I'm really into a character, it winds up bringing up so much emotional stuff and so much of my own experience that it's just a natural thing to me, to write out of it," Palladino said. "[Music and acting] have only heightened the experience of the other. I feel like the point is to become better at expressing truer things about yourself, so they both do that. It's like the same muscle kinda gets exercised. So yeah, it's not like a different part of the brain takes over doing one or the other, for me. They're the same."

A&E Posts Best Year in Network History

A&E Posts Best Year in Network History

A&E is wrapping up the best year in the network's history among all key demographics, including adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers. This achievement will mark an astonishing eighth straight year of growth among the key adult 25-54 demographics, the longest streak in cable.

Among all entertainment cable networks in 2011, A&E ranks number 5 in adults 25-54 and total viewers, and number 6 in adults 18-49. A&E is averaging 1.5 million total viewers in prime, up 7% over 2010 and has also out-delivered 2010 impressions among adults 25-54 (744,000) and 18-49 (709,000), up 5% and 6% respectively.

"2011 was marked by the strong performance of A&E's unparalleled slate of original programming," said Bob DeBitetto, President and General Manager of A&E and BIO. "It has truly been an outstanding year for the network with strong growth in an increasingly competitive landscape. Our exceptional performance in 2011 was fueled by record setting performances by original hit series 'Storage Wars' and 'Storage Wars Texas,' as well as the strength of our established franchises such as 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels,' 'The Glades,' 'Breakout Kings,' 'Beyond Scared Straight,' 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' and 'The First 48,' giving us great momentum heading into 2012."

2011 also marks the seventh year in a row that A&E finished as a top 10 network in adults 25-54 and total viewers and the sixth year in a row finishing as a top 10 network among adults 18-49. A&E has seven non-fiction shows in the top 50 among 25-54 and the top five crime & justice programs on cable in both adults 25-54 and total viewers.

Several records were achieved by A&E in December 2011, including the launch of "Storage Wars Texas," which became A&E's best series debut ever among total viewers (4.1 million) and adults 25 - 54 (2.1 million). Next, an all-time record was set when an episode of "Storage Wars" scored A&E's #1 telecast ever with adults 18-49 (3.0 million) and tied for A&E's #1 telecast ever among adults 25-54 (2.9 million). On the scripted side, "Stephen King's Bag of Bones," starring Pierce Brosnan, became the best performing mini-series event on cable since A&E's own "Andromeda Strain" premiered in 2008.

A&E closed out the year with nice momentum leading into 2012. For December 2011, the network posted double-digit gains in the key demos, up 21% among total viewers (1.7 million), 15% among adults 25-54 (854,000) and 14% among adults 18-49 (818,000), versus December 2010.

'Celebrity Cook-Off's' Joey Fatone: 'I cut my finger pretty badly one day'

'Celebrity Cook-Off's' Joey Fatone: 'I cut my finger pretty badly one day'

Singer Joey Fatone is one of eight celebrity chef-testants taking part in Rachael Ray vs. Guy Fieri's "Celebrity Cook-Off," which debuts Sunday night, Jan. 1, at 9 p.m. ET on the Food Network.

Joey's Quick Bite, "If you combine good flavors, food turns into an orchestra."

Joey's Behind-the-Scenes Dish:

"I cut my finger pretty badly one day, but I couldn't stop working or I'd lose time. So while the doctor was bandaging one of my hands, I was chopping with the other!"

Was Rachael or Guy more competitive?

"Even though you could tell that both of them wanted their teams to win, they were very supportive of everyone on the show."

Joey before the show, "I only chopped with small knives."

And now, "I use a chef's knife. Guy would yell at me to grab the 'big-boy knife.' I was intimidated at first because it's really sharp, but now I have no fear."

'The Vampire Diaries' spoilers: 'The New Deal' brings big changes

'The Vampire Diaries' spoilers: 'The New Deal' brings big changes

Okay, vamp fans! Here's the deal: Yes, we've watched "The New Deal" -- Thursday's  mid-season premiere of "The Vampire Diaries." And yes, The CW has us on lockdown with some very specific details we're not allowed to reveal to you. Juicy ones.

But don't worry; we won't leave you hanging completely. Here are five things you can look forward to (and/or dread) in Thursday's episode.

1. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has a domestic side. We're almost nervous to admit it, but our big bad wolf has become one of the most complex characters on television right now. The way that his vulnerability and villainy tangle up together is fascinating to watch. With his father out of the picture, Klaus has big plans to reunite his remaining family members -- complete with a dream house in the town where they last loved each other as humans. It's poetic, really.

2. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) spirals out of control. We're talking old school Jeremy, minus the nail polish. He's flunking out of school, he got fired from his job... and things go from bad to worse when he starts hanging out with Tyler (Michael Trevino) again. Elena (Nina Dobrev) tries to intervene, but when she sees Jeremy in a gruesome confrontation with a hybrid, it becomes pretty clear that he's on the verge of losing any chance at happiness.

3. The romantic tension between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena gets even more epic. The connection between them now runs deeper than the whole lusty, let's-stand-a-little-too-close-together-and-stare-at-each-other's-mouths thing that they've been doing for the last two years. While their loyalty to Stefan (Paul Wesley) may be threadbare at this point, it is there -- particularly once Damon learns that Stefan only saved Klaus to spare Damon. Delena has a dilemma, y'all! Before the hour is over, one of them is going to make a major decision that has to do with their relationship and their relationship with Stefan.

4. A little clarity. We'll find out much more about siring and what it means to Tyler that Klaus is his sire -- he'll even explain the key differences between compulsion and siring. (Sort of. Let's just say the line is a little blurry.) Tyler's loyalty is tested several times in the episode... and as far as Elena and Alaric (Matt Davis) are concerned, he definitely fails some of the tests. We're not sure this bodes well for his relationship with Caroline (Candice Accola), who isn't in this episode.

5. Say goodbye. One of our favorite characters is saying goodbye to Mystic Falls -- possibly forever, in a scene that totally made us cry, and is making us cry again right now, just writing about it. (We know there are rumors out there that Damon does something unpleasant to force the character out of town -- this isn't the case, Damon fans. Your boy is a true gentleman in this episode.)

After a long break, this episode is well worth the wait. Make sure you're in front of your TV on January 5 at 8:00 p.m. EST -- and West Coasters, you stay off Twitter! Just trust us that you won't want to be spoiled for this one.

Big Screen Version of British TV cult comedy ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ In the Works

Big Screen Version of British TV cult comedy ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ In the Works

Co-creator Jennifer Saunders and co-star Joanna Lumley to star in movie version.

Jennifer Saunders, the co-creator of the BBC award-winning series Absolutely Fabulous, has said she plans to make a big screen version of the TV show.

Saunders has set the Internet alight with reports that she is planning a movie version of the show, which returned to the small screen over the Christmas season on BBC to ratings success and a posititve critical reception.

The comedy show featuring Saunders as Eddy, her sidekick Patsy played by Joanna Lumley and copious amounts of champagne, aims to capitalize on the show’s long-running popularity.

First airing on BBC in 1992, the comedy about a fashionista PR and her hard-drinking, smoking sidekick has scored numerous awards including a best comedy show BAFTA in 1993 and an Emmy for best popular arts program the following year.

This year’s Christmas special, penned by Saunders, marked the show’s return to the small screen after an absence of six years.

The Christmas special garnered around nine million viewers with another episode to air on New Year’s Day.

According to reports, Saunders said she is “definitely going to do” a movie version.

“I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring,” Saunders said.

There is another Ab Fab TV outing planned for 2012.

Oprah Discusses Future of OWN

Oprah Discusses Future of OWN

"If this doesn't work out, I'm going to go into organic farming in Maui," the former talk show queen said of her Oprah Winfrey Network's struggles.

Oprah Winfrey's cable venture, OWN,  wasn't exactly a ratings hit in its first year.

As The Hollywood Reporter reported, there were executive turnovers, increased pressure to raise carriage fees and over $245 million has been spent funding the venture in the last year.

The media personality is now returning to television in a new show on the network, Oprah's Next Chapter, which debuts on the channel's first anniversary, Jan. 1, in the hopes that it will bring in viewers.

In a new interview with the Associated Press, Winfrey was frank about the struggles she's faced trying to take a successful image and turn it into a network.

"I would absolutely say it is and was not where I want it to be for year one," Winfrey said. "My focus up until (last) May was doing what I do best, which is 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' and giving that my full attention" until its conclusion."

But, she says she's also confused by the attitude that OWN is a failure.

"Somebody was talking to me in that kind of saddened, 'How are you?' tone, and I was thinking, 'I'm fine,'" said Winfrey, adding, "Everybody has told me — Ted Turner has told me, Barry Diller has told me, Lorne Michaels has told me, David Geffen has told me — anybody who's ever worked with a channel, who's ever done anything, has said it takes three to five years," she said, adding, "You have to do the work. ... You do not have to pay attention to the criticism."

So far this year, OWN is averaging just 136,000 viewers per day (Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m.-6 a.m.), a decline of 8 percent compared to predecessor Discovery Health in 2010. Among women 18 to 49, OWN is down 12 percent. In primetime, OWN actually is up slightly among total viewers -- 2 percent, to 258,000 -- and is up 8 percent among women 25 to 54. But OWN is flat among younger women 18 to 49.

"I don't understand what anybody was thinking," she said of the network's original roll-out plan. "You're going on the air, you've got four shows. What do you think you're going to do by Tuesday? Did they think people were going to turn on the channel just because it had my name on it?" she said. "People didn't turn on The Oprah Winfrey Show because my name was on it. It was absolutely topic driven every day," she said.

And, despite being committed to turning OWN into a success, Winfrey says she's got a Plan B.

"If this doesn't work out, I'm going to go into organic farming in Maui. And I'm not kidding."

CNN's 'American Morning' Ends After 10 Years

CNN's 'American Morning' Ends After 10 Years

The cable news network debuts its new morning lineup on Jan. 2.

As CNN readies its new morning lineup next week, long-running series American Morning signed off for the last time on Friday.

Anchors Alina Cho and Deborah Feyerick, brought staff members to set for its final broadcast, TV Newser reports, thanking everyone for their efforts on the morning series, ending after 10 years on the cable news network due to weak ratings.

"These are the folks who get up in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping to bring you this show," said Feyerick, "and they do it when a lot of enthusiasm and love and energy."

Prior to the telecast, Feyerick tweeted, teasing the new changes to mornings at CNN: "Final American morning of 2011. It gets a facelift in 2012." Two hours later, she wrote of the final telecast: "#CNNAM back on the couch as we head into home stretch!"

American Morning premiered the day after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 with Paula Zahn, who now anchors a weekly crime newsmagazine On the Case for the Investigation Discovery channel. (THR reported that On the Case recently hired David Letterman's blackmailer Joe Halderman to serve as a producer on the series.) American Morning was originally set to debut five months later.

Anchor John Roberts left his post at the end of 2010 with Kiran Chetry departing at the end of July 2011.

CNN is looking to break through the morning show clutter dominated by the Today show, Good Morning America as well as Fox & Friends and Morning Joe with Ashleigh Banfield and Zoralda Sambolin's Early Start from 5-7 a.m. and Soledad O'Brien's Starting Point taking the 7-9 a.m. hours.

Banfield is a former ABC News co-anchor, while Sambolin is a former early morning anchor from Chicago.

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane Welcome Second Child

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane Welcome Second Child

The couple added a baby girl to their growing family on Dec. 28.

Rebecca Gayheart came in just shy of having a New Year's baby.

The 40-year-old actress gave birth to her second child with husband Eric Dane on Wednesday, as first reported by People.

Baby girl Georgia Geraldine joins the actress and the Grey's Anatomy star's growing family, which welcomed first daughter Billie Beatrice in March 2010.

"Rebecca Gayheart and husband Eric Dane welcomed Georgia Geraldine Dane on Dec. 28, just in time for the New Year!" said a rep Gayheart. "Both mom and baby girl are happy and healthy, Billie is thrilled to be a big sister, and dad is getting ready to live in a house full of ladies!"

Gayheart is perhaps best known for roles in '90s teen films such as Urban Legend and Jawbreaker, while Dane has stared as Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan on ABC's Grey's Anatomy since 2006. Last year he appeared in the Cher/Christina Aguilera musical Burlesque.

The couple, who wed in Las Vegas in 2004, confirmed the pregnancy in July 2011.

NBC Accused of Editing Religion Out of Ben Breedlove Viral Clip

NBC Accused of Editing Religion Out of Ben Breedlove Viral Clip

documented his rare heart condition before it killed him on Christmas, admitted believing in God and angels -- something MSNBC seemingly skirted over in a televised report.

Ben Breedlove, a 18-year-old from Austin, Texas, gained national attention this week when a video he made before his Dec. 25 death went viral.

Documenting his life, advice for other teenagers and the rare heart condition that killed him in a series of YouTube clips, Breedlove's final video focused on how his many near-death experiences shaped his life. It surpassed 2 million views and found its way onto several televised news broadcasts. But an NBC report skipped one of his key points.

Conservative blog Daily Rushbo notes that MSNBC's segment on Breedlove seemed to edit out his admission of faith in God.

At one point in the video, which is narrated, silently, through messages on note cards, Breedlove asks viewers if they believe in "Angels and God." In the YouTube video, he follows that card with one that reads "I do." The original MSNBC broadcast, however, fades out just as he begins to pull it up.

The segment, as it originally aired, is still available on YouTube, where the apparent edit is visible. On MSNBC's website, there is an altered version that shows the "I do" card. What remains unclear is whether the fade out was accidental or intentional.

ABC shuffles execs at Stephanopoulos' "This Week"

ABC shuffles execs at Stephanopoulos' "This Week"

With George Stephanopoulos taking the reins back from Christiane Amanpour on "This Week," ABC News is staging another renovation of the Sunday morning show.

Jon Banner, who oversaw the show from 2000 to 2003, will return, taking the place of Rick Kaplan. The new version of "This Week" debuts January 8.

Banner, senior executive producer for "division wide initiatives," will continue to oversee big projects for the network.

"Jon and George have a long history working together," ABC News President Ben Sherwood said in a note to ABC News staff. "They share an editorial vision for the broadcast and when they teamed up last they steadily expanded the program's audience. As partners again, I am confident they will produce excellent results."

Banner ran the nightly newscast "World News" for almost a decade. He took on his current role in September.

Kaplan, who has had multiple stops at ABC and CBS as well as stints at CNN and MSNBC, just left CBS to return to ABC News in May.

He will remain with the network, overseeing ABC's debate in New Hampshire January 7. He will also "take on other big projects and continue to offer a critical voice in our news and election coverage," according to Sherwood's note.

Banner takes over a show that has struggled from a ratings perspective, often performing worse than both CBS' "Face the Nation" and NBC's "Meet the Press" in recent months.

Amanpour announced she was leaving the show earlier in December as she splits her time between ABC and CNN.

Stephanopoulos will now pull double duty between "This Week" and his co-hosting position at "Good Morning America," which by contrast has had a strong year of ratings.

NBC passed on "Precinct" last May, but the pilot episode has leaked online at Vimeo.com. The cop series -- starring "Battlestar Galactica" alums Jamie Bamber, Tricia Helfer and James Callis -- is set in Excelsior, a supernatural world where magic is commonplace.

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Star Kim Richards Checks Out of Rehab

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Star Kim Richards Checks Out of Rehab

The Bravo reality housewife and former Disney actress has left a treatment facility, according to reports.

A source with knowledge of Kim Richards' situation tells THR that "she has not left treatment." No further information was provided. Meanwhile, People magazine has clarified its initial report that Richards had checked out of rehab to say that she remains in an inpatient facility, and was visited by her daughter, her sister Kyle Richards and Kyle's three daughters.

Weeks after checking herself into rehab, Kim Richards -- cast member on Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and ex-Disney actress -- has left an inpatient treatment program, People magazine reports.

According to media outlets, Richards entered rehab earlier this month following months of erratic behavior that was caught on camera during the first and second seasons of the reality show. She previously sought treatment after the series' October 2010 debut.

"She's doing okay," a source was quoted as telling People. "The plan is for her to continue with outpatient therapy. Everyone is hoping for the best."

This season on Bravo's Beverly Hills edition, Richards was shown telling Dr. Paul Nassif, the plastic surgeon-husband of fellow housewife Adrienne Maloof, that she had been taking a mixture of anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication. In other dramatic footage, Richards and her co-star and sister, Kyle Richards, got into a heated argument with new castmate Brandi Glanville wherein Glanville accused the single mother of being on drugs.

'Beverly Hillbillies' Star and Mattel Settle Lawsuit Over 'Elly May' Barbie

'Beverly Hillbillies' Star and Mattel Settle Lawsuit Over 'Elly May' Barbie

Former sitcom star Donna Douglas, now 78, was unhappy over her resemblance to the buxom backwoods doll.

Actress Donna Douglas has settled her legal dispute with toymaker Mattel over a Barbie doll named based off of her Beverly Hillbillies character, Elly May Clampett.

Reuters reports that the consumer product division of CBS Corp. had licensed the rights for Mattel to replicate Elly May, something it argued it had exclusive rights to do. Douglas, now 78, had sued both companies claiming they were "engaging in the unauthorized use" of her name and likeness to sell the product.

She sought a minimum of $75,000 in damages. Neither her attorney or Mattel would comment on the details or figure, but documents filed in Louisiana on Tuesday indicate that it had been settled.

Douglas played the beautifully dim Elly May on the CBS television series from 1962 to 1971. The fish-out-of-water tale about Appalachian family that struck oil and moved to a Los Angeles mansion was later adapted for a 1993 film of the same name.

Former Kardashian Nanny Pitching Tell-All Memoir

Former Kardashian Nanny Pitching Tell-All Memoir

The proposed book promises "intimate details" of life in the Kardashian-Jenner family.

A former Kardashian nanny is said to be prepping a tell-all book about the family.

TMZ reports that Pam Behan who worked as a nanny, personal assistant, and cook for Bruce Jenner, his wife Kris, and their children is shopping a proposal to book agents as the first step to landing a publishing deal.

Sources say Behan's proposal paints a negative  picture of Bruce's sons Brandon and Brody Jenner, calling them "spoiled and disrespectful." She also dangles the possibility of "intimate details" about the childhood of Kourtney and Kim Kardashian, Bruce’s stepdaughters.

Behan allegedly calls her relationship with the girls' mother Kris Jenner a "love/hate" affair. From the details leaked, Bruce is the one member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan who comes off in a positive light.

TMZ reports that Behan has approached several major literary agents about representing her but that none appear to have signed her as client yet.

A rep for the Kardashians and the Jenners said the family had no comment.

George R.R. Martin Posts 6,100-Word Excerpt From New Book

George R.R. Martin Posts 6,100-Word Excerpt From New Book

Fans of novelist George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy series are melting. The "Game of Thrones" author just released a previously unpublished sample chapter from the upcoming sixth installment, "The Winds of Winter," on his Website.

At 6,100 words in length, the excerpt is substantial.

"The chronology, as usual, is tricky," Martin said on his LiveJournal page. "This chapter will be found eventually at the beginning of 'Winds,' but as you will be able to tell from context, it actually takes place before some of the chapters at the end of ['A Dance with Dragons,' the fifth installment in the series.]"

Martin also said another "Winds of Winter" sample chapter will be included in the paperback edition of "A Dance with Dragons," which is due in July. "A Dance With Dragons" was released in July 2011, 15 years after the first volume -- "A Game of Thrones" -- came out.

In an interview published in October, Martin said he had written 100 pages of "Winds," which will be published by Bantam Books. A release date has not been set for that book or its successor, "A Dream of Spring," which Martin plans to be the final installment in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

In the meantime, Martin fans will bide their time with the second season of HBO's series adaptation "A Game of Thrones," which starts in April.

BBC Faces Sexism Accusations After Female Panda Makes Top 12 Female Faces of the Year List

BBC Faces Sexism Accusations After Female Panda Makes Top 12 Female Faces of the Year List

The British media and beyond is atwitter with the news that the BBC has become embroiled in controversy after having named a panda as one of its 12 female faces of the year.

Selected by the BBC’s online Magazine, the inclusion of Tian Tian, also known as Sweetie -- the bear that arrived at Edinburgh Zoo this month from China -- has attracted controversy, sparking a sexism row for the Corporation.

The BBC finds itself at the heart of sexism accusations for the second time in as many weeks after the pubcaster was criticized for choosing its annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year from an entirely male shortlist.

But the decision to include the face of Tian Tian as part of its list of 12 female faces of the year has set Twitter alight.

Former deputy prime minister John Prescott tweeted: “So the BBC couldn't find a woman for Sports Personality of the Year, but they could find a panda for a female face of 2011."

Labour MP Stella Creasy added: "No offence to Sweetie -- sure a lovely panda and best in the class etc -- but clue is in the title 'women' not 'female of the species' of the year."

While the men of the year list included luminaries such as Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth, prospective Republic presidential nominee Herman Cain, and News of the World journalist Paul McMullan for his whistleblowing role in the phone-hacking scandal, it did not include the male panda brought to Edinburgh with Tian Tian.

The BBC online list has also been criticized because a quarter of the female faces this year were chosen for their involvement in marriages.

Prince William's new sister-in-law Pippa Middleton; South African Charlene Wittstock, who married Prince Albert of Monaco; and Spanish billionaire the Duchess of Alba, 85, who tied the knot with a civil servant 24 years her junior; made the list.

The selection was made by BBC editors.

The BBC took the time to point out it is not the first time an animal had appeared in its Faces of the Year lists.

"Including Sweetie (Tian Tian) as one of the annual headline makers was a light-hearted addition to the list, and this isn't the first time it has featured a non-human," the BBC said in a statement.

In 2009, Benson the Carp, a much-caught giant fish, was August's entry on the male list and last year Peppa the Pig was on the female list for April.

The controversy is being dubbed Pandagate by internet wags.

Fringe Winter Premiere Sneak Peek: He's Baaack!

Fringe Winter Premiere Sneak Peek: He's Baaack!

Friday the 13th of January is a lucky day for Fringe fans, because that’s when the Fox drama resumes its fourth season, following a too-long holiday break — and we’ve got some photos from that first episode back, including a peek at a returning ne’er-do-well.

As revealed in the official synopsis for “Back To Where You’ve Never Been” (which was designed as a cliffhanger-y fall finale capped by a most ominous encore, but got pushed back by the World Series), “In an effort to find a way home, Peter journeys to the Other Side to confront Walternate, and his venture proves more dangerous than expected. Meanwhile, Olivia receives a dire premonition from an Observer.”

So yes, this will mark Season 4′s first appearance by Walter’s nefarious counterpart, and it could be interesting to see what he has been up to in this tweaked timeline. As Fringe EP Jeff Pinker said during the fall, “Walternate, despite all promises to the contrary, is still a bad guy manipulating things behind the scenes.”

Horror Story Season 2 Scoop, Guiding Light Exhumed on DVD and More!

American Horror Story‘s inaugural season has come and gone, but an unsolved mystery lingers.

“Go through it frame by frame,” Murphy challenged fans in an interview with EW.com. “I planted it in there.”

Thankfully, the folks over at TheInsider.com did just that and came away with five possible Season 2 settings, including Florida (where Vivien’s sister resides) and London (where Vivien’s doctor is located).

Meanwhile, if you missed Horror Story‘s finale the first time around, TVLine has learned that FX will air an encore on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 4 am.

Ready for more of today’s TV dish? Well…

'Glee' Michael Jackson tribute: Listen to Dianna Agron's 'Never Can Say Goodbye'

"Glee" songs have a way of leaking online before they officially air on the show, so it's no surprise some of the covers from the FOX hit's upcoming Michael Jackson tribute episode have started trickling out.

Up first? Dianna Agron's ultra-pleasant take on the Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye."

Agron always sounds best on the retro tunes -- remember her lovely "I Say a Little Prayer" during Season 1? We dig the sweet tone of her voice, so this Jackson 5 track was a fantastic pick for her.

'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood wants to quit the show

'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood wants to quit the show

According to "Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood, she could be leaving the MTV reality series that made her famous -- and subsequently caused her a lot of legal problems.

In a court hearing on Thursday following her arrest for probation violation, the 21-year-old told the judge that "I want to quit, and I will," referring to the MTV series that has documented her life since before the birth of her daughter, Leah, in 2008.

Portwood feels exploited by the cameras, Huffington Post TV reports, and her lawyer, Evan Broderick, says she wants to live her life without it being documented on television.

The Indiana judge ruled that Portwood will have to stay in jail until her next hearing on Jan. 27 because she has not been following the terms of her probation. She was required to submit to drug tests, anger management classes, finish her GED and start an education fund for her daughter. She was also charged with a Class D felony for possessing pills she couldn't provide prescriptions for at the time of her arrest on Monday.

Portwood's first arrest came after she assaulted her on-and-off fiance, Gary Shirley, on camera during filming for "Teen Mom." We can't imagine having a camera in your face at all times helps with rational decision-making, so perhaps taking a break from TV would be in Portwood and her family's best interest. (Though we'd still take her over any of the "Teen Mom 2" stars any day.)

Paddy McGuinness: 'I was scared to leave my job for Phoenix Nights'

Paddy McGuinness: 'I was scared to leave my job for Phoenix Nights'

Paddy McGuinness has revealed that childhood friend Peter Kay "nagged" him to quit his job for a full-time career in comedy.

McGuinness made his comedy breakthrough on Kay's Channel 4 sitcom Phoenix Nights, but the Take Me Out host told The Mirror that he was initially concerned about whether the show would be successful, choosing to stay in his job as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool.

"Phoenix Nights was really starting to take off. But I was scared to leave my job in case things didn't work out," McGuinness recalled. "Peter kept nagging me to quit my job so I could commit to comedy full-time. I didn't have the confidence to throw all my eggs into one basket.

"I think it's a northern thing. I was always told as a kid the most important thing you could have was a job that paid you sick pay if you needed it and came with a bit of a pension. I was scared of running off to be a comedian and then having to come back with my tail between my legs."

However, McGuinness admitted that Kay's persistence eventually paid off, adding: "It was frustrating for Peter because I could only arrange to be there for filming sessions in between my shifts at the swimming baths. In the end he nagged me enough and I quit - which turned out to be a cracking move."

The pair went on to star in Phoenix Nights spinoff Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere and spoof fitness DVD Max and Paddy's Power of Two.

McGuinness also revealed in the interview that he struggles spending time apart from wife Christine Martin, who he married this June.

The comedian will return to ITV1 with a third series of dating gameshow Take Me Out in January.

'X Factor' Little Mix single 'UK's most unwanted Christmas gift'

'X Factor' Little Mix single 'UK's most unwanted Christmas gift'

The debut single from X Factor winners Little Mix has been named as the UK's least wanted Christmas gift.

The girl band's 'Cannonball' cover topped a British Heart Foundation poll looking for the most disappointing present to open on December 25.

Little Mix's record beat products such as raunchy underwear, musical ties and foot spas to the title after being singled out by a quarter of those surveyed.

Little Mix were knocked from the top of the UK singles chart on Christmas Day by Gareth Malone and the Military Wives Choir, making them only the third X Factor-winning act after Steve Brookstein and Joe McElderry to miss out on the Christmas number one.

'Cannonball' also achieved the lowest first-week sales for an X Factor winner's single since 'Against All Odds' by Brookstein in 2004.

Little Mix shifted 210,000 copies of their track over seven days, significantly fewer than the 556,000 recorded by the Military Wives and 'Wherever You Are'.

Russell Grant 'asked to represent Malta at Eurovision'

Russell Grant 'asked to represent Malta at Eurovision'

Russell Grant has reportedly been asked to represent Malta at next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The celebrity astrologer is said to have been approached by officials from the Mediterranean island after they saw his performances in BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing.

However, he is allegedly hoping to represent the UK instead.

"He was thrilled but a bit perplexed to be asked to represent Malta as he has no link to the country," a source told The Sun.

"The only Maltesers he knows are in a box of chocolates. But he was really flattered.

"The premise would be Russell singing and then breaking off into a dance with Strictly partner Flavia."

Strictly Come Dancing backing singer Hayley Sanderson has written a song for Grant for a possible UK entry, and has reportedly held preliminary talks with the BBC.

Grant was the seventh celebrity to be voted out of this year's competition.

Ruby Wax, 'Reservoir Dogs' Michael Madsen for Celebrity Big Brother?

Ruby Wax, 'Reservoir Dogs' Michael Madsen for Celebrity Big Brother?

Michael Madsen and Ruby Wax are the latest names to be rumoured for a Celebrity Big Brother appearance.

The Reservoir Dogs actor and the comedienne have reportedly signed a deal to star in the Channel 5 reality series, which starts next month.

Pineapple Dance Studios star Andrew Stone is another new name linked to the show, according to The Sun. Stone appeared as a guest housemate during Channel 4's final full series in 2010 as part of a special dance task.

A studio insider revealed: "Ruby is very feisty and speaks her mind so she won't take fools lightly in the house. Michael is a great signing as he will bring some Hollywood spirit."

Jedward have reportedly been asked to make a re-appearance in the latest series for a task.

Lindsay Lohan, X Factor singer Frankie Cocozza, The Only Way Is Essex cast member Kirk Norcross and Natasha Giggs are among those also tipped to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Boy George, Tinchy Stryder and reality star Sam Faiers have all denied their reported involvement in the show.

Celebrity Big Brother begins January 5 at 9pm on Channel 5.

BBC One's 'Great Expectations' slays ITV's 'Fast Freddie'

BBC One's 'Great Expectations' slays ITV's 'Fast Freddie'

The BBC's new adaptation of Charles Dickens's Great Expectations premiered with a bumper audience last night (Tuesday).

The BBC One mini-series, starring the likes of Ray Winstone and Gillian Anderson, averaged 6.59m (25.6%) in the 9pm hour.

Great Expectations was too strong for ITV1's one-off Laurence Fox drama Fast Freddie, The Widow and Me, which appealed to 3.9m (15.6%) and 216k (1.2%) on +1.

Serial dramas EastEnders and Holby City, airing before the watershed, paced BBC One's primetime victory.

Susan Boyle documentary An Unlikely Superstar (ITV1) and Channel 4's repeat of My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas tied with 1.99m (8.3%) in the 8pm hour. ITV1 +1 added 108k (0.4%) for Boyle, while 314k (1.2%) watched the Gypsy Weddings special on timeshift.

Jimmy Carr's annual Big Fat Quiz of the Year, featuring among others Eddie Izzard, Jamie Oliver and a bearded David Mitchell as guests, held 3.1m (13.4%) between 9pm and 11pm (+1: 393k/2.4%).

On BBC Two, Three Men Go To New England set sail with 1.75m (6.8%), prior to which Dad's Army amused 2.33m (9.4%) and a tribute to the show's legendary writer - You Have Been Watching... David Croft - was watched by 2.03m (8.5%) at 8pm.

World's Strongest Man was Channel 5's most-watched programme, grabbing 1.35m (5.6%) at 8pm. Carry on Christmas (9pm) and The Greatest Carry on Films (10pm) followed with respective audiences of 768k (3%) and 812k (4%).

BBC One's 25.9% primetime share was almost double ITV1's 13.4% (+1: 0.9%). Channel 4 finished in third place with 9.5% (+1: 1%), followed by BBC Two's 7.6% and Channel 5's 3.8%.

BBC Four's scientific Christmas Lecture on brain cells was the best-rated multichannel show, picking up 991k (4.1%) at 8pm.

Annie Lennox: 'X Factor is a factory owned by puppet masters'

Annie Lennox: 'X Factor is a factory owned by puppet masters'

Annie Lennox has said that The X Factor is a "factory" owned by "puppet masters".

The singer-songwriter told Dave Gorman on Absolute Radio that her heroine Joni Mitchell could never have been discovered by the singing contest.

Lennox said: "You wouldn't find a Joni Mitchell on The X Factor, that's not the place.

"The X Factor is a specific thing for people that want to go through that process, it's a factory, you know, and it's owned and stitched-up by puppet masters."

She added of Mitchell: "[I] was blown away by the fact that she was writing these extraordinary songs with this extraordinary sort of commentary, poetic, special way, and this voice and this incredible playing.

"As soon as you heard the first chord and her voice, it was just... and I thought 'I want to do that'. You know, but I didn't have a clue how you do that."

Last year, Lennox described reality talent shows as "dangerous and cruel" and said that there was "no chance" that she would ever be a judge on their panels.

She later said that such contests are "like a casino" where "the punters think they can win but it's always the show that comes out on top", adding that she "would never have stood a chance on a show like that".

Angela Lansbury 'very grateful' for Turner Classic Movies spotlight and 'Murder' move

Angela Lansbury 'very grateful' for Turner Classic Movies spotlight and 'Murder' move

"I'm not one of those people who sits in the dark, looking at their work from 70 years earlier," Angela Lansbury insists. "I'm really not."

Still, the widely loved stage and screen star is pleased that many of her films are about to be showcased by Turner Classic Movies. The channel has named the "Murder, She Wrote" television icon its Star of the Month for January, with Lansbury festivals running each Wednesday.

The titles range from her screen debut in 1944's "Gaslight" (Jan. 4) to her chilling portrayal of one of movie history's most manipulative mothers in 1962's "The Manchurian Candidate" (Jan. 18) -- both Oscar-nominated performances.

"When I see it now," Lansbury tells of her "Gaslight" work, "I say, 'How did you ever have the chutzpah to play that role as you did, at that age?' I'm enormously interested in how I arrived at that performance, but I also know it was created by the original writer of 'Angel Street' (the Patrick Hamilton play that the film was based on) and the screenwriters."

Lansbury also credits the veteran director of "Gaslight," George Cukor, "who was responsible for my being allowed to play this loose young woman I had never experienced being. He was able to get across to me what he wanted, and as young as I was, I had enough training at that time to do what he wanted. It was also inherent in the lines, her words and her attitude."

Flash forward 18 years to "The Manchurian Candidate," in which Lansbury played mom to good friend Laurence Harvey, though they were just short of three years apart in age. "That was a most unique and extraordinary role," she reflects. "I was so fascinated by the book (by Richard Condon) and by the people I was working with, and it was all on the page.

"What this woman represented was so evil, I couldn't fail to be challenged. As it turned out, it worked. I will be forever grateful to 'the boys,' [screenwriter] George Axelrod and [director] John Frankenheimer, particularly John. He was a genius at creating the kind of excitement and drama we had in that movie, which never could be replicated. And never should have been tried. If you know the story's secret, the whole thing is shot." A 2004 remake placed Meryl Streep in Lansbury's role.

"National Velvet," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," "State of the Union" and "The World of Henry Orient" are among other movies included in TCM's upcoming Lansbury salute. She's especially gratified that the last Wednesday of the tribute (Jan. 25) offers, along with her 2006 "Private Screenings" interview with main channel host Robert Osborne, a 1982 recording of her stage hit "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

"I'm very grateful to them for showing that," Lansbury confirms of the project that earned her one of her five Tony Awards. "This was the role that I found a huge, new, young audience with, and that thrills me to this very day. They saw 'Sweeney Todd' and said, 'Who is this? What is her name? Angela something?' [Director] Hal Prince created a mood and a look, and it was staggering when you walked into the theater.

"That set was stunning, and the whole atmosphere was so particular, it just got under people's skin. When we first opened, they either liked it or loathed it. They didn't know what they were seeing ... especially those who were splattered with 'blood' in the front row. The circumstances [of the taping] were sad, because that was the last performance of the show we ever did, but everybody was there with us."

Featured in the new-to-home-video Jim Carrey comedy "Mr. Popper's Penguins," the London-born Lansbury will be heard in movie theaters again soon, and she didn't have to do any extra work for it. She's revered by younger fans as the voice of Mrs. Potts in the animated Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast," which will follow the lead of "The Lion King" by relaunching in 3D on Friday, Jan. 13.

"Kids particularly enjoy it, because they feel like they're right in it," Lansbury notes of the process. "Time passes, but there are always little ones who are coming up, and they will see it for the first time this way. It should be very exciting for them."

Lansbury also is set to return to Broadway in a spring revival of "The Best Man," Gore Vidal's drama of two candidates vying for their party's presidential nomination. "It's going to be interesting," she reasons, "not just because of the theatrical involvement, but also because of the election coming up."

Additionally, Lansbury will start the new year by moving from Hallmark Channel to TV Land in repeats of "Murder, She Wrote," effective Sunday (Jan. 1). "I'm delighted," she says, "because it's a way of revitalizing my work. I love Jessica (Fletcher, the mystery novelist Lansbury played for 12 seasons on CBS, then in several TV-movie sequels), because I love the fact that people find her so comforting, warm and engrossing to watch.

"I'm amazed at the number of people today who are very dependent on being able to see that show. They find it very calming and entertaining. And that's what we're really talking about here, entertainment, but she represents kind of a port in the storm of life that we all go through. I know that many, many people look upon her as that, which is a great compliment."

'Celebrity Cook-Off's' Coolio 'had to go black diamond real quick'

'Celebrity Cook-Off's' Coolio 'had to go black diamond real quick'

Celebrity chefs Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri have, ahem, cooked up a fabulous antidote to the winter doldrums - a "Celebrity Cook-Off" show. In Rachael Ray's Everyday magazine January issue, the cooking celebrities share some tidbits about the season. This first one focuses on rap star Coolio, be sure to check back for more as we lead up to the "Cook-Off" premiere Sunday, Jan. 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the Food Network.

Coolio's Quick Bite: "I always thought I was a good cook, but now I know I'm a good cook."

Coolio's Tale from the Trenches:

"I made my grandma's mini pudding cake for a dessert face-off and, as it got down to the wire, I realized that it was still loose like a souffle. I had to go black diamond real quick, so I put the cake in the oven and turned it up to 500 degrees. It stiffened up and came out with a nice brown crust on the top."

Coolio's Bizarre-but-Delicious Experiment:

"Guy taught me how to make a tempura-fried avocado stuffed with crab. Now I fry bell peppers filled with shrimp and ground turkey. I've even made my own spicy and lemon tempura batters, and I'm dreaming up crazy combinations all the time."

Coolio before the show - "I did everything in the kitchen by hand."

And now - "I use a food processor for almost everything that needs a lot of chopping or blending. It saves so much time. Who knew?"

Who Will Be Breaking In With Christian Slater in Season 2? And Who Won't Be?

Who Will Be Breaking In With Christian Slater in Season 2? And Who Won't Be?

The Contra Security workplace will look a bit different when Fox’s Breaking In breaks out its second season.

Confirmed to return as series regulars to the caper comedy — which was canceled back in May but then plucked from the ashes as a midseason replacement — are Christian Slater (as Contra boss man Oz), Bret Harrison (Cameron) and Alphonso McAuley (Cash).

Plus, as TVLine exclusively reported last month, Emmy winner Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) is coming on board as a Season 2 regular, playing Oz’s own boss.

As for the rest of the ensemble: TVLine has learned that Odette Annable, who during Breaking In‘s brief canceled state joined the cast of Fox’s House, will reprise her role of savvy, sexy Melanie in “multiple episodes” but not reclaim series regular status. Meanwhile, Michael Rosenbaum — who in Season 1 guest-starred as Mel’s doofus beau, Dutch – is not set to return, due to his preexisting commitment to direct a feature film that he wrote. However, we hear the Smallville alum could guest-star at some later point.

Breaking In kicks off its new season on March 6, airing Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c between encore and new episodes of New Girl (while Glee is on hiatus).

The Secret Circle Hot Shots: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner!

The Secret Circle is about to get an infusion of power — from Charles’ mother, Kate!

When the CW series returns Jan. 5, Mama Meade (Hunter alumna Stepfanie Kramer) will be dropping by Chance Harbor, and we’ve got a first look at her unexpected visit.

Diana is thrilled to see her grandmother, but her presence means trouble for Charles and Dawn. You see, Kate is a very powerful Elder — “maybe more powerful than we’ve seen with Henry and Jane,” executive producer Andrew Miller previously told TVLine. “[She] will have certain abilities to sense things.” Like the world’s most awkward dinner party with Charles, Dawn, Diana and Cassie, in whom Kate takes an interest.

Meanwhile, it looks like Cassie’s dark power may prove life-endangering for Adam after she enlists his help with a secret about herself.

Bowing in February, NBC has a lot riding on musical drama Smash.

Bowing in February, NBC has a lot riding on musical drama Smash.

While the series stars Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty and Debra Messing in the story of the staging of a Broadway play about Marilyn Monroe, it has been unclear to this point whether the series would feature songs outside of those written for the play within the show.

However, executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron tell Playbill in a new behind-the-scenes interview from the set that the upcoming series will feature songs outside of the original music written for Smash’s Marilyn play.

On location in New York’s Times Square, McPhee and Hilty are covering Rihanna’s “Cheers (I’ll Drink To That),” with Meron noting that the bulk of the songs will be done for the play onstage, in rehearsal or during a demo but there will be “fantasy sequences” where sometimes characters will be singing in Times Square.

In addition, the EPs noted that Smash – which has been dubbed “Glee for adults” – wouldn’t be on the air were it not for Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s Fox hit.

“Glee has to get a lot of credit because if it wasn’t for Glee, it wouldn’t have broken that ground,” Zadan says. “They opened the door for us. The great thing is we’re not copying Glee, we’re not like Glee but we’re grateful to Glee for giving us the opportunity to do our show.”

Lastly, the duo behind Broadway hits Hairspray and Chicago also express hope that Smash’s Marilyn play could find a life of its own onstage in New York as a production of its own.

“There’s no reason we shouldn’t finish it and take it to Broadway,” Zadan says.

Adds Meron: “It’s a really great idea that this show can give birth to a Broadway musical. It’s all going to depend on how it’s developed, how we all feel about it and how NBC feels about it.”

Check out the full interview below. Would you drink to a Smash theater spinoff? Smash premieres Monday, Feb. 6 at 10 p.m. following The Voice on NBC.

Sky Deutschland Shares Fall After News Corp-Owned Network Drops Paramount Films

Sky Deutschland Shares Fall After News Corp-Owned Network Drops Paramount Films

Stock in Rupert Murdoch's German pay-TV operation fall after group cancels studio output deal.

Shares in Sky Deutschland, the German pay-TV group controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, continue to slide following news that Sky will not renew its film output deal with Paramount Pictures.

Sky Deutschland stock dipped more than 2 per cent in late trading Wednesday, after falling up to 2.6 per cent on Tuesday, the first trading day after Sky announced it would not renew the Paramount deal. Though Sky shares made up much of the day's loss in a late rally, the stock remains some 3 per cent down compared to last week and 30 per cent off its high three months ago.

Sky Deutschland's licensing agreement with Paramount expires in January. Unless the two sides can reach a deal sometime in the future, Paramount blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and The Adventures of Tintin will not be available on Germany's leading pay-TV platform. The German pay-TV group has output deals with the remaining five Hollywood major studios.

Paramount and Sky were apparently unable to come to terms, with Sky unwilling to pay more for top-tier features.

The announcement comes as Sky is in the midst of far more important negotiations: for rights to Germany's Bundesliga soccer. Sky pays around $360 million annually for Bundesliga pay-TV rights but CEO Brian Sullivan wants more: namely soccer rights for all platforms, from TVs to tablets to the Internet and mobile phones.

His main competitor is telco giant Deutsche Telekom, which holds Internet rights to the Bundesliga and is looking to add satellite TV rights for the league. Sullivan is counting on soccer-mad Germans to pull Sky out of the red ink. The company, in which News Corp. holds a nearly 50 per cent stake, is expected to lose up to €175 million ($230 million) this year.

E!'s Giuliana Rancic Returns to Work After Double Mastectomy

The 37-year-old television host went back to work at E! News just two weeks after having successful surgery as part of her breast cancer treatment.

E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic is back at work, just two weeks after a double mastectomy.

The 37-year-old television host returned to E! on Dec. 27 after having a successful double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery as she continues breast cancer treatment.

"I've been feeling better every single day since surgery and this weekend my doctors gave me the green light to get back to work," Rancic told E! Online. "Even though I moved a tad slower than usual today, everyone welcomed me back with open arms and it was a wonderful homecoming."

Though Rancic did admit that she wasn't sure when she would be back: "I wasn't sure whether I was going to return to E! News this week or after the new year. The last thing I wanted to do was rush my recovery."

During her first day back at the helm, it was all work as usual, as Rancic -- who is married to former Apprentice winner Bill Rancic -- informed viewers on the Christmas engagement news of Matthew McConaughey to longtime girlfriend Camila Alves and singer John Legend to model Chrissy Teigen, as well as the Tom Cruise's latest box office success with the Mission: Impossible fourquel.

Rancic has spoken out about her previous struggles, including attempts at conceiving a baby, which was featured in her Style Network reality series Giuliana & Bill.
