'Glee' star Vanessa Lengies promises 'jaw-dropper' episode

'Glee' star Vanessa Lengies promises 'jaw-dropper' episode

Glee star Vanessa Lengies has promised that the winter finale next week will be a "rollercoaster".

The drama will take a seven-week break following its episode on February 21, Fox announced earlier this month.

Lengies, who plays Sugar, has now told TV Line that the final episode before the hiatus will contain some shocks.

"It's our regionals episode, and it's a huge jaw-dropper," she teased. "When I read the script, I was shocked, because it takes you on a big rollercoaster ride. In almost everyone's storyline there is a surprise, so I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it."

Lengies added: "It ends with one of those scenes where you just can't believe what's happening."

Lengies also dropped some hints about tonight's Valentine's Day episode of Glee, teasing: "Sugar is getting love from all angles in this week's episode.

"She's having boys fight over her, her daddy is throwing her a rager, her outfits are just getting better and better... All the cards are coming up Sugar, for sure!"

Glee is expected to pay tribute to Whitney Houston with a title card added to tonight's instalment following the singer's death at the weekend.

The show continues tonight (February 14) at 8/7c on Fox and will return to the UK on Sky1 on March 1.

'Justified' exec wants Eric Stonestreet, Patton Oswalt for guest roles

'Justified' exec wants Eric Stonestreet, Patton Oswalt for guest roles

Justified creator Graham Yost has revealed that Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet wants to appear on the show.

The FX drama stars Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, a deputy US Marshal who fights crime in the city of Harlan, Kentucky.

"We've been trying, since the end of the first season, to figure out a way to get Eric Stonestreet on the show," Yost told Collider. "He's a fan, and we had a part, but we just couldn't work his schedule out."

The Walking Dead actor Pruitt Taylor Vince was eventually cast in the episode 'Harlan Roulette' as Glen Fogle - the role originally intended for Stonestreet.

"[He] was so spectacular that I'm fine with the way it worked out," insisted Yost. "But, we'll always try to find a place for Stonestreet."

The showrunner named Young Adult star Patton Oswalt as another celebrity fan of Justified.

"He likes the show as well [but] with him launching Young Adult, he was just unavailable," explained Yost.

Justified airs on Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.

Dermot O'Leary on 'X Factor': 'It would take a lot to get me to US'

Dermot O'Leary has said that it would "take a lot" to make him leave the UK to host X Factor USA.

O'Leary, who has presented the British version of Simon Cowell's reality series for five years, told that he "loves" working on the ITV1 show.

Speaking at the Elle Style Awards, the 38-year-old said that he is still unsure of his future on the programme, but "of course" hopes to return for the new series.

He added: "I've been on the rollercoaster before, so you don't really stress about it too much. I love doing that gig, I feel that it's my gig, but you know, we'll see."

Welsh presenter Steve Jones was axed as host of The X Factor USA's second season, which will see Cowell and LA Reid return without ex-judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Cher Lloyd: 'Louis Walsh should leave The X Factor'

Cher Lloyd: 'Louis Walsh should leave The X Factor'

Cher Lloyd has suggested that Louis Walsh should "have a holiday" during this year's X Factor.

The 2010 X Factor finalist continued her war of words with the Irish music mogul during an interview on Real Radio Northwest.

When asked about her thoughts on Walsh's longstanding role on the ITV1 talent show, Lloyd joked: "Have a holiday for a few years! Have a break Louis, you work too hard.

"He's the only one that's stayed; he might as well go as well and bring someone else in."

Talking about their ongoing spat, she added: "I don't think he likes me very much, he said that I'm a monster."

Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow are all rumoured to be returning to the X Factor judging panel later this year. Kelly Rowland is not expected to be back for a second series.

Parents Television Council wages campaign against MTV's 'Pants'

Parents Television Council wages campaign against MTV's 'Pants'

The Parents Television Council has complained about new MTV comedy series I Just Want My Pants Back and has urged advertisers to avoid the broadcasting network.

The PTC claimed that the adult content of the humour was inappropriate for MTV's audiences and reignited its dispute with the network, which it famously fell out with over controversial teen drama Skins.

In a statement, the PTC said: "While the show is only rated TV-14, content has already included the prelude to a sexual foursome and a woman asking a man to insert his finger into her rectum during intercourse.

"Once again MTV is taking HBO-style content and marketing it to a Nickelodeon-age audience."

PTC president Tim Winter said: "All of MTV's advertisers, including Dr Pepper, T-Mobile and Toyota, will be asked if foursomes and a woman who tells her sexual partner to 'stick a finger in my a**' are an accurate reflection of their hard-earned corporate brands.

"Parents need to be warned about MTV's stated intention to target children as young as 12 with this explicit material."

Pants airs at 11pm on MTV, but shows repeats in the daytime. However, the daytime reruns are edited versions with the adult gags removed.

The show, which premiered earlier this month, is a dramedy about a young man (Peter Vack) who falls for a woman who stole his trousers after a one-night stand.

'Darkover' novels to become TV series

'Darkover' novels to become TV series

A television adaptation of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover novels is in the works.

Buffalo Soldiers producer Ilene Kahn Power and Elizabeth Stanley have secured the rights to the fantasy series.

"Set in a unique world and full of great adventure, the Darkover series truly has the potential to be must-see television for seasons to come," said Kahn Power. "The novels have a huge fan following throughout the science fiction and fantasy communities."

The Darkover series consists of several novels and short stories, all set on the fictional, far-flung world of Darkover.

Kahn Power added: "With the ability to create the Darkover world through state-of-the-art effects and the opportunity to utilise multiple platforms to unfold our narrative, now is the ideal time to create a lasting and far-reaching series that features compelling characters and gripping stories.

"[The series] will appeal not only to existing fans but also to the broader audience which has embraced series such as Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica."

Co-producer Stanley praised author Bradley for "her rethinking and reinvention of gender roles".

"She was among the first speculative fiction writers to take on gender stereotypes and bend them or turn them topsy-turvy," she suggested. "Thereby creating complex and unforgettable characters whose struggles with their own identities, as well as what society expects of them, feel completely modern."

Bradley's 1983 novel The Mists of Avalon - a retelling of the Arthurian legends - was adapted as a TNT mini-series in 2001, earning three Emmy nominations.

'Celebrity Apprentice' Debbie Gibson: Everyone has something different

'Celebrity Apprentice' Debbie Gibson: Everyone has something different

Debbie Gibson has expressed her excitement over the cast of The Celebrity Apprentice.

The NBC reality series announced its largest Celebrity Apprentice cast ever at 18 celebrities earlier this year, including George Takei, Arsenio Hall, Penn Jillette and Gibson herself.

Gibson told Digital Spy that she is happy to have so many strong female competitors on her team, insisting that the women will hold their own against the men.

Asked who poses the biggest threat in the game, Gibson said: "Oh gosh, I don't know! I think everyone brings something different to the table. Obviously Adam [Corolla] and Clay [Aiken] seem like they're game, and so does Penn. But even for the girls, we've got some strong personalities. Lisa Lampanelli is fierce! I'm glad we have the people we do."

The 41-year-old went on to say that she is looking forward to putting her performing skills to the test on Celebrity Apprentice, explaining: "I'm hoping something comes up with singing! Of course that's my forte, so it'd be great if we had to perform to raise money or something 'cos I think the girls could blow that out of the water.

"Really, I'm just looking forward to the whole thing, to be honest. Even the stuff I'm not so great at will be a blast to try and hopefully I'll learn something new in the process!"

Show boss Donald Trump recently described the new Celebrity Apprentice cast as an "iconic group" of stars.

Celebrity Apprentice premieres Sunday, February 19 at 9/8c on NBC

Matt Groening Gives UCLA $500,000 for Animation

Bart Simpson isn't a fan of school, but his creator is: Matt Groening has donated $500,000 to UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television for the endowment of The Matt Groening Chair in Animation.

The endowment will allow visiting master artists to teach classes in the program. This also marks the second year of the Matt Groening Initiative, in which "The Simpsons" creator gives $50,000 annually to supports animation students producing short animated films with social responsibility themes. It was started by Groening and Barbara Boyle, chair of the school’s Film, Television and Digital Media Department.

In its first year, the initiative's support led to TFT’s Erick Oh being named Student Academy Award 2011 for his film "Heart." He is now an animator at Pixar Animation Studios.

"The Simpsons," which has run for 23 seasons and been renewed for at least two more, airs its 500th episode Sunday.

Comedy Central Renews 'Key & Peele' for 2nd Season

Comedy Central Renews 'Key & Peele' for 2nd Season

The sketch-comedy series "Key & Peele" has earned a second season from Comedy Central two weeks after its premiere, the network said Tuesday. The 10-episode second season will debut in the fall.

The series, which which is created by and stars "MADtv" veterans Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, drew 2.1 million total viewers on its Jan. 31 premiere. That's Comedy Central's best launch since the 2009 debut of "The Jeff Dunham Show."

The "Key & Peele" premiere performed particularly well in the men 18-34 and men 18-24 demographics, earning a 2.6 and 3.3 in the demos respectively and earning the top spot in its timeslot in those demos.

The sketch-comedy offering draws on Key and Peele's "shared background and experiences growing up biracial in a not quite post-racial world," according to Comedy Central.

“Because 'Key & Peele' has been so immediately and universally well received, I was worried if we didn't give the show a quick pick up, people might accuse me of being racist," Kent Alterman, Comedy Central's head of programming and production, said of the renewal.

"We are honored, humbled and most importantly contractually obligated to deliver a second season to Comedy Central," Key and Peele added.

'House' Series Finale Set for May 21

'House' Series Finale Set for May 21

After eight seasons, five Emmys, a pair of Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, Fox's Hugh Laurie medical drama "House" will officially be discharged from the network's schedule on May 21.

A Fox rep confirms to TheWrap that "House" will end its run with a one-hour episode in the show's regular Monday night timeslot.

The network announced last week that the series would end after the current season. Laurie's contract with the show ends after season eight, and "House" has already dealt with numerous casting changes throughout its run.

Original co-star Lisa Edelstein left the show before the eighth season began, and Olivia Wilde left the series in October to focus on movies.

Wilde is scheduled to return for the series finale, which will be directed and co-written by series creator David Shore, but the network has not announced whether or not Edelstein will return for a House/Cuddy reunion.

'Glee' Pays Tribute to Whitney Houston in Valentine's Day Episode

'Glee' Pays Tribute to Whitney Houston in Valentine's Day Episode

In a bit of tragically good timing, Tuesday's Valentine's Day-themed episode of "Glee" will include a performance of Whitney Houston's signature hit "I Will Always Love You," sung by McKinley High's own diva, Mercedes (Amber Riley).

"Purely coincidentally, the episode contains Mercedes singing 'I Will Always Love You,' the Dolly Parton song Houston made famous in 'The Bodyguard,'" a Fox representative told TheWrap. "The producers have decided to dedicate the episode to Houston's memory with a card in the end credits."

The episode, called "Heart," also features the introduction of guest stars Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell as Rachel's (Lea Michele) two dads, Hiram and Leroy.

'The Voice' Carries for Another NBC Monday Win; 'Smash' Slides But Beats Competition

'The Voice' Carries for Another NBC Monday Win; 'Smash' Slides But Beats Competition

NBC's "The Voice" powered the network to a Monday night win for the second straight week over a slate of CBS sitcoms that routinely dominated the night in the fall, according to preliminary numbers.

"The Voice" slipped from last week, as did its followup, "Smash." But every CBS show hit a season low. It was another big win for fourth-place NBC on a night when most-watched network CBS once looked bulletproof.

"The Voice," airing from 8-10 p.m., had a 5.9/15 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, down 12 percent from last week. At 10, "Smash" had a 2.8/7, down 26 percent from its premiere last week. Despite the significant slip, "Smash" won its timeslot -- beating CBS's "Hawaii 5-0." In its first two weeks it has earned NBC's two highest in-season ratings since April 2009, not including the Olympics.

"The Voice" beat CBS's slate of comedies by a 64 percent margin. It is currently the highest-rated show of the season on any network -- ahead of typical No. 1 "American Idol" -- but that is because of a huge boost from its season two premiere episode, which aired in the plum spot after the Super Bowl.

Overall, NBC averaged a 4.9/12 in the demo and 13.4 million total viewers. CBS, second in ratings and viewers, averaged a 3.3/8 and 10.3 million.

CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" at 8 slipped 15 percent from last week to a 3.4/10 in the demo, with 9.1 million total viewers. "2 Broke Girls" at 8:30 slid 14 percent from last week for a 3.7/10 and 10.5 million total viewers. "Two and a Half Men" at 9 ticked down 12 percent for a 3.8/9 and 12.3 million total viewers. "Mike & Molly" at 9:30 drew a 3.3/8 and 11 million total viewers, while "Hawaii 5-0" closed the night at 10 with a 2.6/7 and 9.5 million total viewers.

ABC was third in ratings and viewers with a 2.3/6 in the demo and 8.3 million. "The Bachelor" at 8 drew a 2.5/6 and 8 million total viewers, followed by "Castle" at 10, which received a 2.0/5 in the demo and 8.9 million total viewers.

Fox came in fourth for the night with an average 2.1/5 in the demo and 6.7 million total viewers. "House" at 8 received a 2.4/6 in the demo and 7.2 million total viewers, while "Alcatraz" at 9 dropped 17 percent for a 1.9/4 in the demo and 6.2 million total viewers.
