Keith Olbermann planned to quit Current TV?

Keith Olbermann may have already been planning to quit Current TV, it has been reported.

The political commentator has been released from a five-year contract with Current TV, with his show Countdown with Keith Olbermann to be replaced by a new programme featuring former New York governor Elliott Spitzer.

Olbermann was also fired last year by MSNBC, where his Countdown programme launched, due to tensions between him and the network.

TMZ reports that Olbermann had been ready to leave the network before the recent axe, as he had come to blows with execs over what he believed were bad production values and constant technical difficulties. Sources also say that Olbermann described the Current TV network as a disorganized, "ragtag operation".

Olbermann has also revealed that he had ongoing issues with Current TV creators Al Gore and Joel Hyatt for more than a year prior to his firing, adding in a statement: "It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current's statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently."

The 53-year-old anchor is due to make his first television appearance since the announcement on Late Night with David Letterman this Tuesday (April 3) on CBS.
