Russell Howard: 'TV channel Dave is biggest threat to comedy'

Russell Howard has slammed UKTV comedy channel Dave.

The 32-year-old stand-up believes that the digital channel's output is monotonous.

When asked by The Guardian what he thought the greatest threat to comedy is, Howard replied: "The TV channel Dave.

"Everything is repeated there; they just play the same shows over and over."

Dave regularly repeats his popular BBC Three show Good News and BBC Two's Mock the Week, on which he has appeared as a panellist since 2006.

Howard also said that his one TV regret is presenting backstage at the Brit Awards for ITV2 in 2007, confessing that he did not enjoy interviewing popstar Lily Allen.

"I didn't really want to be there," he admitted. "I just don't care what people like Lily Allen think about stuff. But I know that some people do care, so I couldn't just slouch through it."

Russell Howard's Good News, now in its sixth series, returns for an extended 12-episode run this Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three.
