This Week's Must-See TV: 5 Shows You Shouldn't Miss

This Week's Must-See TV: 5 Shows You Shouldn't Miss

Struggling to decide what to watch this week? Never fear, Tube Talk is here with our rundown of the biggest shows of the next seven days.

This time around we've singled out the premieres and finales of some compelling US dramas, as well as an ambitious wildlife event and a piece on everyone's favourite spouses - Wills and Kate. Read on for the details!

William and Kate - The First Year: Tuesday at 8pm on ITV1
OK, we appreciate that this pick may not be to everyone's taste. But there are plenty of monarchists out there and even the most cynical of us got swept up in the Royal Wedding excitement last spring, so shhh... One year (and a pesky two days) after the landmark event, the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton is celebrated with the usual talking heads and probably more shots of that dress. Oh, and someone describes them as a "very sexy" couple. We're more into Harry and Pippa, really.

The Killing: Wednesday at 10pm on Channel 4
Season three of the Danish original may be a while off yet, but at least The Killing's US remake is back to keep us occupied. Since season one controversially failed to identify Rosie Larsen's murderer, we're thrown right back into the action in the first episode, as Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) cancels her move to California and uncovers a deeper conspiracy behind the case. And don't worry about being let down a second time - The Killing's showrunner has revealed exactly when the culprit will be named.

Awake: Friday at 10pm on Sky Atlantic
From one quality US drama to another. We're thrilled that Awake is finally hitting our screens this week, because it's an absolutely fascinating programme. It stars Jason Isaacs as Detective Michael Britten, a car crash survivor who enters one of two different realities every time he falls asleep - one where his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) died in the accident and one where his son Rex (Dylan Minnette) perished instead. If you don't want to feel left out of the office chatter next Monday, make sure you give it a watch.

Planet Earth Live: Sunday at 8pm on BBC One
The original Planet Earth documentary series from Sir David Attenborough was a glorious, awe-inspiring production. So we've got high hopes for this ambitious three-week event, in which the lives of a few young animals are told in real time. The launch episode sees Richard Hammond provide updates on lions and elephants in Kenya, while Julia Bradbury reports back about North American bears, otters and whales. Should be touching.

Homeland: Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4
Once you're done watching the cuddly meerkats and monkeys, why not switch over to Channel 4 for a programme that's enthralling in an altogether different way. Can you believe we're at the final episode of Homeland's first season already? What will we do with our Sundays now? At least we're getting 90 whole minutes of Carrie (Claire Danes) and Brody (Damian Lewis) before the long wait for season two begins. We wish we could tell you more about the plot, but as the penultimate episode hasn't aired in the UK yet, we don't really want to be lynched. Let's just say...things are about to get real!
