'GCB's Kristin Chenoweth: 'I'm so proud of my LP Some Lessons Learned'

'GCB's Kristin Chenoweth: 'I'm so proud of my LP Some Lessons Learned'

Kristin Chenoweth has said she is overwhelmed by the positive response to her first country music album Some Lessons Learned.

Some Lessons Learned reached the top 20 of the US country music chart, which surprised Chenoweth because she is primarily known for opera and show-tunes.

"When you make it, or when you're known for one thing, like opera or musical theatre, a lot of times people don't want to hear you do something else," the singer explained to Parade. "Country was actually how I began, so I'm happy that the record is becoming more and more accepted."

She continued: "I'm just so happy that people are embracing it. I guess the bottom line is a good song is a good song, and I've got a lot of good songs on that record!"

Chenoweth also revealed that she will be singing in her new sitcom GCB in a very different style than her fans are used to.

"I will be singing as [my character] Carlene, not Kristin," she noted. "And there'll be other singers that come and go in the show and I love that because the role lends itself so well to having music because it's set in church."

The actress recently defended GCB against claims that the series makes fun of Christianity by insisting that she would never mock religion.

GCB airs Sundays at 10/9c on ABC.
