'Downton Abbey', 'Game of Thrones' nominated for Monte Carlo TV awards

Fresh Meat, Downton Abbey, Whitechapel and Game of Thrones are among the nominees for the 52nd Monte Carlo Television Festival.

The latter three will face off against Midsomer Murders, Boardwalk Empire, The Good Wife and international contenders such as The Slap (Australia) and The Firm (Canada) in the 'Drama' category.

Fresh Meat, meanwhile, is against the likes of Irish representative Mrs Brown's Boys and stateside shows 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family for the 'Comedy' prize.

Another notable nominee is controversial HBO movie Game Change - a dramatisation of the 2008 Republican presidential campaign - in the 'Television Film' category. Its stars Julianne Moore and Ed Harris have picked up acting award nods for their portrayals of Sarah Palin and John McCain.

Various cast members of all the aforementioned shows are also nominated for their performances.

Leading the way with four nominations apiece are Downton Abbey (Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Dan Stevens and Brendan Coyle), Game of Thrones (Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington), Boardwalk Empire (Steve Buscemi, Gretchen Mol, Michael Pitt and Kelly Macdonald) 30 Rock (Tina Fey, Jane Krakowski, Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan), The Slap (Blake Davis, Anthony Hayes, Melissa George and Sophie Okonedo) and The Firm (Josh Lucas, Juliette Lewis, Callum Keith Rennie and Molly Parker).

The 52nd Monte Carlo Television Festival will be take place on June 10-14.
