Sky to air Elementary in the UK

CBS’ modern-day Sherlock series, Elementary, is coming to the UK in the autumn courtesy of Sky Living

Amongst a job-lot of US shows Sky has just announced having bought the UK rights to is CBS’ Sherlock modernisation, Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Holmes and Watson.

Also in Sky’s shopping basket is fellow CBS series Vegas, and two new shows that piqued our attention when announced earlier in the year: Kevin Williamson-executive-produced thriller The Following, and DC Comics adaptation Arrow, the first two of which are headed to Sky Atlantic, and the third to Sky1.

New York-set Elementary, due to air on Sky Living this autumn, has gone so far as giving Watson a gender-swap to differentiate itself from the BBC’s Sherlock. Jonny Lee Miller plays Holmes as an ex-pat Brit with a history of drug abuse whose father employs Lucy Liu’s live-in assistant Dr Watson to aid his recovery. Romantic complications, we’re told, ensue.

Without appearing to be a naysayer so early on, we’re not sure the BBC Sherlock should exactly be quaking in its boots at the news.
