Big Brother: readers brand Conor cash win 'disgraceful'

Readers have blasted Channel 5 producers for last week's White Room twist, which allowed Conor McIntyre to walk out of the house with £50,000.

Only Conor, Luke Scrase, Scott Mason and Sara McLean were eligible for the White Room twist, under Big Brother's rules, and Conor and Luke S were the last pair standing on Friday night.

Big Brother offered the pair the chance to walk off the show with half the prize money and Conor ended up bluffing to Luke S and taking the cash at the last minute.

Fans have blasted the decision to give away half the prize money to a contestant not voted for by viewers, and also to a housemate who many believe should have been ejected from the show following aggressive behaviour towards Deana Uppal earlier in the series.

TV watchdog Ofcom picked up over 1,225 complaints from Big Brother viewers over an incident, which involved Conor claiming that he would happily "punch" Deana and a rant from the fitness trainer involving sexually aggressive content about the Miss India UK winner's epilator.

In a poll of over 11,000 readers at the time, nearly 60% thought Conor should have been booted off the show.

A poll on the forums about Conor's cash win has had a similarly overwhelming majority of fans (78%) describing the twist as "disgraceful".

Forum user Swiftish said: "I can't watch anymore and haven't since Conor won, because that is effectively what he did. His brother said emphatically on BOTS that he was going to win and he was right - and the awful thing is that ALL the housemates should have had that opportunity, or the public should have decided who went in there.

"I do still check in on this forum as some little part of me hopes that either BB change their mind and take the money back, or Deana sues him for verbal assault or Luke S sues him for half the money on the basis of the verbal contract - but then I wake up and realised that Channel 5 decided that he should be the winner, otherwise they would have had a level playing field. Can't watch anymore and never will again - shame!"

Femailian commented: "Disappointed that Channel 5 let this happen after Conor's behaviour in the house. Their twists have completely ruined the show. I won't be watching after this. They have just rewarded Connor for being a thug!"

Tortue said: "There's nothing I find more edifying that watching a nasty, aggressive-mouthed, misogynist rewarded. NOT."

Mulett added: "Things like this annoy me, because it feels like they've cheated the viewers - especially those who've spent each week voting. According to the poll, only about 9% support Big Brother giving Conor that £50k. But do you think the BB producers care?"

The current run of Big Brother has had its lowest ever ratings, clocking in under 1 million on a number of occasions.

Big Brother's current run ends on Monday, August 13. The winner will take home the remaining £50,000.
