First Look: Walking Dead Unveils Season 3 Key Art Featuring Rick, Michonne and The Governor

AMC gave Walking Dead fans a pre-Comic-Con treat Friday when it unveiled key art for the zombie drama’s upcoming third season (launching in October) — but who’s front and center on the promotional piece this time around?

Packmaster Rick (played by Andrew Lincoln) is, per usual, the centerpiece of the shot; however, he’s no longer alone or surrounded by walkers. The Season 3 art instead finds the sometime-martyr flanked by the series’ newest imports: the sword-wielding mystery woman named Michonne (Danai Gurira) and the yet-to-be-seen, feather-ruffling Governor (David Morrissey).

Take a peek at the photo below, and then hit the comments with your thoughts on the killer First Look. And don’t forget to tune in to AMC this weekend (beginning Saturday, July 8) to catch up on The Walking Dead‘s first two seasons and see a never-before-broadcast, black-and-white version of the pilot episode.

Why We Love TV Bad Boys

The Backstreet Boys said it best: "If you want it to be good girl, get yourself a bad boy." Need proof? Just look at the untrustworthy, yet irresistible leads who have taken over your TV. From White Collar's Neal Caffrey to The Vampire Diaries' Damon Salvatore, bad boys seem like they're here to stay — and we aren't complaining! But what is it about a bad boy that's so appealing?

The Hope to Reform
No one knows how hard it is to reform a bad boy more than Neal's (Matt Bomer) FBI partner on White Collar, Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). So what makes him keep trying? Pure pride and optimism. It's that simple. The people who love a bad boy imagine that a guy like Neal is simply hurt and misunderstood. They like to believe that they're the missing piece in his life that will make everything — even him — better. Too bad Neal has proven Peter's idealistic views of him wrong on more than one occasion.

Unpredictability
The best television shows aren't predictable, and neither are the bad boys who star in them. The inability to envisage the next move by Gossip Girl's Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) is what gives him such a sense of adventure. Bad boys are risktakers. Even if things don't always work out as planned, the "He loves me, he loves me not" speculation is always an exciting, albeit emotionally exhausting, escapade. Unfortunately, this type of instability is also what makes relationships with bad boys like Chuck so volatile (just ask Blair).

Living vicariously
Even the biggest goody-two-shoes has a repressed bad boy in them somewhere deep down. Just look at Sam Winchester (Jared Padelecki). When Supernatural started, Sam was about as sweet and innocent as a person could get and even though he would chide his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) for his love 'em and leave 'em lifestyle, it was clear he also secretly admired big bro's tough guy attitude. Of course, a few seasons into The CW drama, Sam's inner bad boy was eventually revealed in full force, proving that he wasn't as different from Dean as he originally thought.

Leather
The Vampire Diaries' features one of the fiercest rivalries television has ever known: Team Damon vs. Team Stefan. For many, it isn't a debate at all. The bad boy charm of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) has won over most viewers' hearts. And not to discredit Damon's personality (best described as charming with a side of murderous), but the majority of his appeal is fairly superficial. Damon's best feature? Not his striking blue eyes or his chiseled jaw. It's his deliciously sexy leather jacket. There's just something about a man in leather that is so seductively edgy. It's as though he could whisk you off on the back of his motorcycle at a moment's notice. Now all Damon needs is that motorcycle...

Hotter hookups
Bad boys aren't tentative about breaking the rules and they definitely aren't tentative about love and lust, either! True Blood's Area 5 sheriff and resident bad boy Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) is used to getting his way. Maybe that's why he had no qualms propositioning Sookie (Anna Paquin) season upon season even though she wasn't technically "his." When they did finally hook up in Season 4, it was everything we could have imagined — steamy on top of sexy on top of hot! There's just something so much better about hooking up with a bad boy. Maybe it's the taboo. Maybe it's the six-pack abs. Maybe we just don't care. Eric isn't afraid to take what he wants and he has every guy and girl wishing he wanted them.

True Blood: Has Lafayette Lost His Mojo?

When True Blood first premiered, Lafayette Reyonds (Nelsan Ellis) added some much needed comedic relief to the HBO drama. His debaucherous — and often illegal — activities provided a nice change of pace from the whole Bill and Eric whinefest that is Sookie Stackhouse's terribly depressing life. But after five seasons, it seems Lafayette may have lost his mojo.

As an openly gay black character, Lafayette was celebrated when the series came out for destroying stereotypes and separating himself from the typical gay sidekicks you see on TV. There's no running around to the hairdressers or mall, selecting fashion-forward outfits for Sookie and Tara. Oh no. Instead, Lafayette — while extremely flamboyant — is undeniably masculine and shown to be one of the strongest characters on the show (at least originally).

Case in point is one of our first introductions to the Merlotte's cook in Season 1. After a customer complains about not wanting a burger "with AIDS" — a jab at Lafayette's homosexuality -- he takes off his earrings in true bad girl fashion and shows the table of rednecks that just because he's gay, doesn't mean he's someone you want to mess with. "In this restaurant, a hamburger deluxe comes with french fries, lettuce, tomato, mayo and AIDS. Do anybody got a problem with that?" Lafayette shouts, before licking the bun and planting the soiled bread right on the customers face. "Tip yo' waitress," he quips before strutting off.

Now that is a character to love.

Both political and entertaining, Lafayette was everything a viewer could wish for. Now, however, he's about as messed up as Iraq War veteran Terry Bellefleur — and that dude is messed up! It all started in Season 3, when Lafayette started dating Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) and, consequently, started losing his edge. While it was nice to see the character relax a little and start to grow beyond colorful one-liners, in typical True Blood fashion, it all just went a little too far.

Lafayette soon added witch and medium to his already stacked resume (which includes short-order cook, prostitute and drug dealer, to name a few). These new abilities brought nothing but trouble for our favorite Bon Temps native, culminating in his forced murder of his beloved Jesus.

Gone are the days of bling-bling and jaw-dropping dance moves. Lafayette's just too busy grieving over Jesus and dealing with his own crazy brujo issues to be the hustler we fell in love with. But unless Sookie plans on getting drunk every week, we want the old Lafayette back to help lighten the mood down in Bon Temps!

Maybe he should try listening to his own advice: "Take two Vicodin with a big glass of red wine. Then smoke some badass ganja, baby. By the time you wake up... Mmm! All healed."

Then again, we don't know if even that ill-advised cocktail could fix all of Lafayette's problems.
