Andrew Lloyd Webber: 'Superstar' reality show and 'Phantom of the Opera' sequel

Andrew Lloyd Webber, Broadway and West End hit-maker has a couple of projects in the works. He may have made his mark with musicals on the stage, but he's branching out into reality television for the first time ... in America anyway.

He's already collaborated with the BBC on four talent search shows. Now he's bringing the contest across the pond. His new show "Superstar" will search the country for someone to play the title role in an arena tour of his hit rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar." According to Deadline, Lloyd Webber will act as a judge with 3 other as yet unannounced people. The show's host hasn't been announced yet either.. The casting of Mary and Judas for the tour will not be part of the show.

Webber is also working on getting the sequel to his hit show "Phantom of the Opera" to Broadway. "Love Never Dies" (called "Paint Never Dries" by one critic) didn't do very well when it premiered on London's West End, but according to Playbill, the retooled version of the show might be headed to the Great White Way. Screenings of an Australian film version of the musical have been held, supposedly to garner interest in getting the production underway.

Set ten years after "The Phantom of the Opera," "Love Never Dies" follows soprano Christine Daae to New York's Coney Island, where she is invited to perform for the mysterious Mr. Y. Characters from her past begin to emerge, including one with whom she shares a dark secret.
