'Fringe' execs on show future: 'We're hoping for the best'

Fringe showrunners Jeff Pinkner and Joel Wyman have confirmed that the programme's future is still unclear.

In a recent conference call, the pair told reporters that they are "hoping for the best" following rumours of a shorter fifth and final season.

"We will find out like everybody else," said Wyman. "We don't fret about it because it's really out of our control. We can only step back and do our work, and therein lies the path to serenity."

Co-producer Pinkner also hinted that tonight's (February 24) Fringe episode 'The End of All Things' will be "a game-changer".

"It's the 14th out of 22 episodes and it's very much an episode that's going to launch us into the back half of the [season]," he said.

Meanwhile, Wyman described episode 15 'A Short Story About Love' - which will air after a month's break on March 23 - as the "perfect" Fringe instalment.

"It has a great, terrifying element to it [but] at the same time it has this incredible love story aspect with things that people are going to be very excited for, [related to] the relationships on the show."

Fringe continues on Fridays at 9/8c on Fox. Sky1 airs the show on Wednesdays at 10pm in the UK.
