'Total Wipeout' axed by the BBC

Hit BBC One gameshow Total Wipeout has been axed, it has been confirmed.

Hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram, the programme has run for four years and at one point averaged over 5 million viewers for the broadcaster.

However, the BBC today confirmed plans to end the series after one final run of the show.

"After four very successful series of Total Wipeout - and one series of Winter Wipeout - the BBC has taken the decision that the next series, due to transmit later this year, will be the last," said a BBC rep.

Ratings for the recent Winter Wipeout series fell to 3.85 million.

Total Wipeout is a comedy assault course-based gameshow featuring challenges including the Sucker Punch, the Cradles of Doom and the Big Red Balls.

Celebrities who have taken part in the show, which is filmed in Argentina, include Joe Swash, Joe Absolom, Danielle Lloyd, Dom Joly and Nicola McLean.
