Lifetime Pilot ‘American Housewife’ Starring Melanie Griffith Not Going Forward

Lifetime has passed on drama pilot American Housewife. It starred Melanie Griffith who executive produced it with husband/producing partner Antonio Banderas. The pilot was written/executive produced by Erik Jendresen based on an idea by him and Banderas. Directed by David Slade and produced by Fox TV Studios, American Housewife centered on Leila (Griffith), a seemingly perfect housewife living the American Dream in an affluent neighborhood, married to wealthy up-and-coming politician Stanford (Jeffrey Nordling) with whom she has three grown or almost-grown children.

Ray Ricord also executive produced. The pressure on Lifetime’s development has let off a bit with the successful launch of new drama series Client List, which logged the network’s strongest debut in three years. American Housewife is the second of the most recent batch of three Lifetime pilots to get a pass following Modern Love. The third one is two-hour movie/backdoor pilot Sworn To Silence toplined by Hewitt’s Party Of Five co-star Neve Campbell, which doesn’t have an airdate yet.
