'Big Bang Theory's Sheldon has bee named after him

The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon Cooper has had a bee named after him.

A newly discovered species of Brazilian orchid bee is now called 'Euglossa bazinga', in honour of the Jim Parsons character's 'bazinga' catchphrase.

"Bazinga!" said Big Bang Theory executive producer Steven Molaro in a statement.

"Sheldon would be honoured to know that Euglossa bazinga was inspired by him. In fact, after 'Mothra' and griffins, bees are his third-favourite flying creatures."
