Keith Chegwin returns to breakfast TV on Daybreak

Keith 'Cheggers' Chegwin is set to return to breakfast television this year, bringing his "unique" presenting style to Daybreak.

Chegwin, who previously appeared on GMTV and The Big Breakfast, has signed up to present the new 'Thanks Mum' segment on ITV's breakfast show in March.

ITV said that Chegwin will "do what he does best" - knocking on doors and "surprising mums in their nighties all over the country with messages from their loved ones".

'Thanks Mum' will launch on March 4, in time for Mother's Day that weekend.

In the early 1990s, Chegwin presented the 'Down Your Doorstep' feature on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast, using the famous slogan: "Wake up you beggars, it's Cheggers!"

During his seven years at GMTV, he knocked on hundreds of doors around the country, from Land's End to John o' Groats, and gave away thousands of pounds in prize money.

"I love morning telly, it's fantastic, and I can't wait to be on Daybreak," said Chegwin, who is currently appearing on ITV's Dancing on Ice show.

"It's going to be really lovely surprising the nations' mums with messages from their families - I think it might get a bit emotional but hopefully they'll all be pleased to see me!

"It will be just like the old days going out knocking on doors again, I used to have such a blast doing it for GMTV and I'm sure it'll be the same for Daybreak."

ITV said that it will supply viewers with details on how to nominate their mums to be surprised by Chegwin on Daybreak in early February.
