'GMA' Contributor Elizabeth Smart Announces Engagement

The former kidnapping victim, will wed later this year, according to her rep.

Elizabeth Smart has her freedom, a job, and now she's found love.

The 24-year-old, who was abducted in 2002 at age 14 and spent nine months in captivity, announced that she got engaged last weekend and is planning to wed later this year, ABC News reports.

Smart, who is a paid contributor for Good Morning America, covering stories related to missing and exploited children, is not revealing the groom's name or any additional plans for the wedding.

"While [Smart] plans to be involved with her public advocacy work, she really feels she needs to keep her personal life private," her publicist, Chris Thomas said, but did also say "She is in seventh heaven. She's excited, she's enjoying life."

The Brigham Young University student was hired by ABC News in July of last year.

"She’ll help our viewers better understand missing person stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing," ABC News spokespersonJulie Townsend said at the time.
