Aidan Farrell to receive BAFTA TV Craft Special Award

BAFTA has announced that Aidan Farrell is to receive special recognition at this year's British Academy Television Craft Awards.

The colourist, who has worked on Downton Abbey and The Shadow Line, will be given a BAFTA Special Award "recognising his outstanding creative contribution to the industry and his extensive work and accomplishments in this field".

"I am so delighted by this honour," said Farrell. "I have been lucky enough to work on some fantastic programmes over the years and have worked with the best directors and creatives in the business.

"I hope that any legacy of my work will be the fact that British television is now the most beautiful and stylish in the world!"

Farrell's list of credits also includes Sugar Rush, Primeval, Hustle and Wallander.

"Aidan is a master of his craft and audiences have been enjoying his work for many years unaware of the sheer technical, artistic and creative lengths he's gone to," said BAFTA's Television committee chairman Andrew Newman.

"This Award recognises and celebrates the impact his work has had within our industry."

The full nominations for this year's British Academy Television Craft Awards will be announced on Monday, April 16. The ceremony takes place on Sunday, May 13.
