NBC fires 'Today' producer over Trayvon Martin 911 call edit
NBC has reportedly fired a Today show producer for controversially editing a 911 call made by George Zimmerman.
The edited portion of Zimmerman's 911 call made it sound as if he was racially profiling 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, whom he later shot and killed after a confrontation.
The producer is said to be Miami-based, but NBC has not disclosed their name or details, reports the New York Times.
Neighbourhood watch member Zimmerman killed Martin in what he described as self-defence, meaning he has not been arrested for the incident, which has since sparked huge debate and controversy in the US.
The edited clip went largely unnoticed until it was highlighted on various websites and blogs, with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity later broadcasting the clip.
20th Century Fox recently announced that it will be abandoning its marketing drive for upcoming comedy Neighbourhood Watch due to the tragedy.
